Trump to take stand in Trump University fraud trial

Posted by | February 23, 2016 17:10 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Somebody running for president may be in legal hot water in the middle of the race, and it’s not Hillary Clinton.

In court filings last Friday, lawyers for both sides in a long-running civil lawsuit over the now defunct Trump University named Trump on their witness lists. That makes it all but certain that the reality-show star and international businessman will be forced to be grilled under oath over allegations in the lawsuit that he engaged in deceptive trade practices and scammed thousands of students who enrolled in his “university” courses in response to promises he would make them rich in the real estate market.

Although the case has been winding its way through the courts for the past five years — and Trump has denied all wrongdoing — the final pretrial conference is now slated for May 6, according to the latest pleadings in the case. No trial date has been set, but the judge has indicated his interest in moving the case forward, the pleadings show.

People getting robbed by trump will be hard to spin. The tRumpettes will just say they were stupid.

Well, when the story first broke, the NY Daily News had a big piece about it, and one guy just kept throwing hundreds of dollars at a time down the rat hole. If that had been me, I never would have let my name and picture be used. He couldn’t have been too bright to not eventually realize he was being taken. There comes a point where you have to look out for yourself.

True, but when you put your trust in someone you should be able to get something for your money.

            • whatthe46 February 23rd, 2016 at 19:14

would you put your trust in someone that has a record of filing bankruptcies?

              • tracey marie February 23rd, 2016 at 20:49

He made a peomise, with a business, he broke that promise and swindled people. No, I would never be desperate enough to trust a dishonest man like trump or any of his businesses. hell, he made after all expences maybe 100 grand. It is ridiculous.

Doesn’t matter. If he’d lost $10M he would have considered it a yuuuuuuuge win for him because he does not mind wasting money to get what he wants. People like him will pay $2M to get $1M in tax deductions.

Well you would think the tRumpettes would want to look out for their own kind.

………………..Trump has threatened to ruin her financially for bringing the lawsuit and that she needs protection from his “retaliation.”

will the real donald trump please stand up.

  5. anothertoothpick February 23rd, 2016 at 19:30

And what do we learn at trump college?

We learn that Kenyes was bad the free market is better and sweat shop labor isn’t so bad.

We learn that safety regulations actually hurt the worker.

Climate change is no big deal and not caused by humans.

This is what trump calls “fresh college thinking”

  10. whatthe46 February 23rd, 2016 at 22:44

even if his “victims” win millions, this bastard will file bankruptcy. LOL. i wonder if they still LOVE their tRump now. hell, i wouldn’t be surprised if tRump took the stand and said “they love me still.” arrogant asswipe.

the donald should remember to bring the university checkbook – just to show everything is on the up and up – oh, and his personal tax records to show there’s been no ‘real’ fraud. –

Does Trump even know what a university is?

His “university” seems more like a correspondence course.

I had to refresh myself on this thing. Here is the Wikipedia article:

      Allegations of impropriety

On August 24, 2013, the State of New York filed a $40 million civil suit against the institution (which had largely ceased operations in May 2011), alleging illegal business practices and claiming numerous “false promises” made by The Trump Entrepreneur Initiative and its representatives.[8] Donald Trump denied the allegations, claiming the school has a 98% approval rating and said New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is “a political hack looking to get publicity.”[9] The New York Times editorial board stated that “Mr. Schneiderman’s suit offers compelling evidence of a bait-and-switch scheme.”[10] Schneiderman accused Trump of misleading more than 5,000 people to pay up to $35,000 to learn his real estate investment techniques.

Trump has given conflicting stories. In his infomercial he said: “And honestly, if you don’t learn from them, if you don’t learn from me, if you don’t learn from the people that we’re going to be putting forward, and these are all people handpicked by me, then you’re just not going to make it in terms of world-class success.” He testified in a 2012 deposition that, contrary to the Trump University sales materials and statements he made in the infomercial to the media, he neither selected the instructors nor oversaw the curriculum.

In October 2014 a New York judge found Trump personally liable for the institution’s violation of state education laws.
