“for the Senate to block a sitting president from nominating a Supreme Court nominee—not just a specific nominee, mind you, but any nominee at all, would put the Constitution of the United States itself at stake.” it never in a million years occurred to any of them, that a black man would ever sit in the oval office as the POTUS when that comment was made. otherwise, he would have added an unless. so, now it’s a different story. pathetic little jealous bastards.

Mitch’s little speech needs to be put on a huge banner and hung from the ceiling of the Senate. Then, every Dem who takes the floor for any reason should recite it aloud.

beautiful. it should be repeated everyday!

Conservatives have no standards other than “we should win.”

      Their way or the hi-way..

  3. William February 14th, 2016 at 23:09

Lets clarify the title of this article shall we? In 2005 McConnell stood up for the WHITE presidents right to nominate judges.

    • whatthe46 February 14th, 2016 at 23:32

Obama becoming President was their first nightmare, this is there second worst nightmare. i love it.

      • StoneyCurtisll February 15th, 2016 at 14:01

You forgot about his being re-elected~!

  4. William February 14th, 2016 at 23:37

    Wait, what?

John Roberts is the only person who can get the republicans in line with reality. He needs to come out with a statement against playing politics with the SC and get the next justice confirmed and sworn in the way it should be.

They might be able to obstruct circuit or appeals court nominees, but the supreme court should rule if they can obstruct them. We do have three equal branches of government. One branch of government should not be able to hinder the duty and ability of another solely for political reasons.

There’s no way McConnell should have said what he did. He might as well have had Cruz peering right over his shoulder when he said it. With any luck, John Roberts himself will give the crow to McConnell to eat.

but it must be our guy

The people who read this forum surely understand that the senate was going to block the nominee right? I’m a far left democrat. I must say, if the tables were turned, the Dems would be doing the same thing. Does that make it right? Absolutely no. It’s wrong, dead wrong. At this point in our history, the biggest impact any president can make is selecting a supreme court justice. president Obama has the right and the duty to select. My big fear now is if the senate does block the presidents nominee, that will spur on the right to vote in droves knowing the next president will decide this country history for the next generation. Remember, there might be one or two more justice’s that will need to be replaced in the coming future as well. The 2016 election will be a pivotal point in our country’s path.

    • StoneyCurtisll February 15th, 2016 at 13:58

      “I’m a far left democrat”…
First time I have heard anyone describe themselves as that…
Usually thats what some right winger is calling someone else.

        Read his other comments.

      • jamesboyle63@gmail.com February 16th, 2016 at 09:09

I mean that I’m as far to the left before hitting progressive territory as one can get. Right up against that wall.

    • Obewon February 16th, 2016 at 08:59

The remaining registered repubs total a mere 26% of all registered voters. http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/party-identification Repub candidates suck, and lack any cross-over appeal. So SCOTUS obstructionism is all they’ve got to slingshot Gullible Old People to the polls on November 8th. Like all repub plans this too will implode.

Never let the truth get in the way of an agenda.

  9. Bunya February 15th, 2016 at 13:13

Of COURSE McConnell stood up for the president’s right to nominate. That was way back in 2005, when we had a white GOP president. I mean, who knew Scalia would die when we had a black president in office!

  10. Foundryman February 15th, 2016 at 13:21

You can bet the farm that replacing Scalia was brought up at the secret meeting in 2009 inauguration day that McConnell and the repubes had.

  11. Foundryman February 15th, 2016 at 13:32

In normal times, wiping their ass with the constitution in the middle of an election year would be held against them. Now, keeping the President from doing his constitutional authorized duty is perfectly ok according to the slime on the right. I hope the left can come up with an overwhelmingly convincing argument to show everyone just how decrepit the right has become.

Leaving one branch of the government weakened and vulnerable is the most repugnant thing they have done thus far.

    • cwazycajun February 16th, 2016 at 13:59

the left can come up with a convincing argument make sure either sanders or Clinton is elected president and they take the senate that’s the best argument we can make

  12. Jack E Raynbeau February 15th, 2016 at 14:53

2005 was a completely different situation.

    • cwazycajun February 16th, 2016 at 13:45

yeah the different situation is this is president Barack Obama and they have done everything to screw his presidency from day one and this is no exception

  13. Syl February 16th, 2016 at 11:10

Time for Obama to show the finger to McConnell and the rest of his GOP idiots. These proud obstructionists are making a total joke of the political process.

  14. WhodaThunkit February 16th, 2016 at 11:26

What color was the president in 2005?
