1 in every 52 Americans died in the civil war. Tell me how that compares to 1 in 35,000 murder rate we currently have

      Honk! Honk!

These were not the data considered and commented in the article. But you don’t deal with facts of course.

OK, I’ll play your comparison game and let’s see if you’ll get it…
620,000 people lost their lives in the Civil War, our bloodiest conflict ever….and I agree that 9,184 murders a year does fall short by about 180k deaths…but you’ve omitted one thing…we are comparing our bloodiest past with our extremely peaceful present and only coming up slightly short.
Here’s hoping you win the lottery and are that special 1 in 35,000

Yes our extremely peaceful present. the 1 in 35,000 doesn’t even remotely tell the story. First of all there is the element of criminal past. About 60% of murder victims and perpetrators both have a criminal past. So if you’ve never been involved in crime your odds of being murdered just dropped to about 1 in 88,000. Then consider 3/4 of all murder occurs in medium to large cities where only about 40% of Americans live. I live in Detroit, We had 332 murders in 2014. The neighboring city, Dearborn had 2. Dearborn has about 95,000 residents. Detroit has about 750,000. In 2014 Detroit had 3/5 of all murders committed in the state and represents about 8% of the states population.

If we include accidental shootings we get to 13k a year, now it’s equal…btw, the headline says gun deaths, not murder…so you have to include suicide….now we’re at 30 k + a year…even worse.
Your stats are meaningless data in an ocean of facts pointing at too many guns.

Numbers don’t lie. Gun humpers do.
