Well, I can and it is not fun whether you are white or black but so much worse for black people I would imagine.
When my husband told the next door neighbor that we were selling our house and moving to Colorado, his wife whipped her head around and said, “You better not sell to no n*gg*rs!”
We have lived next to these people for over 30 years, her kids played with my kids, they slept over here many times when my kids would have their other friends who were black or Hispanic or Asian or Arab where here too. She didn’t seem to mind her kids being here from sun up to sun down most days and I never heard one of her kids say anything even remotely racist. She wasn’t just racist, she said nasty stuff about pretty much everyone, I am sure she talked about me the same way behind my back.
She would come over for coffee when my friends were here and plenty times it would be friends who were not white, she didn’t seem to mind. I put up with her for the sake of the kids, I tried to get along with her, I even went to church with her even though I am an atheist!
Once the kids were older I stopped having anything to do with her and that was just fine with me I was too busy to worry about her.
I don’t know how her kids dealt with that, they were good kids and after they were old enough to drive, I often saw them out with black friends. The husband is pretty quite, I never heard him say stuff like that either, he seems like a really nice man.
You would think that she would have outgrown that after living around people who are not like that for so long but like the weirdo in this article, it was like she just couldn’t let it go.
