It took a few moments to familiarize myself with the new site.

    • tracey marie January 11th, 2016 at 19:37

Me as well and I do not like it. No interaction with each other. It is like colmes feed, will be unused in a short time.

      • Alan January 11th, 2016 at 20:02

comment section here and each story on colmesfeed, so not sure why you think there is no interaction

        • tracey marie January 11th, 2016 at 20:07

I understand that….the loss of seeing and interacting without the…go to article is gone. No longer can you just comment, stick around and feel welcomed. This is a way to generate more ads and bring in the clowns.

          • Obewon January 11th, 2016 at 20:21

Colmesfeed http://colmesfeed.com now has our commentors & comment section e.g. http://colmesfeed.com/2016/01/11/jindal-leaves-office-leading-to-immediate-better-health-care-coverage/#the-comments

          • Alan January 11th, 2016 at 20:49

Are you saying the open thread should be on the same page as teh stories? Is that your major complaint? You can still comment ont he stories and go back and forth on each story at colmesfeed. But the open thread and our chat room is here, so there is a community on both pages.

            • tracey marie January 11th, 2016 at 21:07

Let me think about the proper phrasing and I will get back with you.

            • Kick Frenzy January 11th, 2016 at 23:23

I think the problem is that it’s too spread out… like, Alan.com is now basically just for this thread, live chat and links to the other sites and stories.

              So, the breakdown has become:
Alan.com = one chat thread and a chat room
Liberaland = “Links to friends” page
Colmesfeed = “Links to stories” page, which have their own comment sections… but there’s also a separate comments section on Colmesfeed

I was wondering how all of this was going to shake out and knew I wouldn’t fully get it until I saw it in action.
And now I see it and it comes across as Alan.com having been shattered into 3 different sites.
I see where the good intentions were, but it doesn’t seem to have worked out well in practice.

Plus, the ads on Colmesfeed that cover the bottom and the left side of the screen just make me want to close the site altogether.
(So does the weird “link to story, but comment back here” set up.)

TL;DR – Too broken up, it was better all in one place… maybe with a separate page to click through to for links to friends pages.

              • Alan January 12th, 2016 at 07:49

please see my post at the top of this thread

              • Alan January 12th, 2016 at 08:01

are the ads you’re referring to on mobile or desktop?

                • Kick Frenzy January 12th, 2016 at 19:43

                  Desktop.
The last time I opened it (earlier today), I didn’t see the ads on the left hand side, which was a huge improvement.

          • Alan January 12th, 2016 at 07:50

            please see my post above

  2. tracey marie January 11th, 2016 at 19:39

If I want to go to politico/mediamatters/hill I would. I liked coming to alan.com/liberaland to converse with people I enjoy on stories that are of interest. This disconnect will not be popular. IMO

    • Kick Frenzy January 11th, 2016 at 19:47

Yeah, this is weird… and doesn’t seem like something that will grow on me.
It feels scattered and like now, it’s all just a clearinghouse for stories from other sites instead of any original content.

      :/

      • tracey marie January 11th, 2016 at 19:50

exactlly, like drudge. I will probably drop off and find somewhere else to call home.

        • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:11

I will probably do the same. This was a very happy, comfortable home for me this last couple of months. I’m really disappointed because I will lose contact with all of my new, and some old, friends here. :(

          • Kick Frenzy January 11th, 2016 at 23:34

I started at Freakout Nation, which led me here.
Ever since then, I’ve been at both.

I imagine I still will be, even if I don’t comment as much until it grows on me enough.

            • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:37

I’m going to keep trying for a few days when I have time. I have linked to FON a few times, but I mostly stuck with here and then linked to other websites through friends that I follow their comments.
I originally was on Huffpo and left when the FB thing started.

      • Alan January 11th, 2016 at 20:01

We never did much original content. It was always an aggregation site.

        • Kick Frenzy January 11th, 2016 at 23:15

I thought all those stories that you posted, under your name, were written by you.
And that now, it’s just links and shared stories from other sites.

          • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:19

No. It’s generally the same with his name having brought the story. But I liked the brief overview he wrote on many of them. We could then link to the story if we wanted to, or just comment from what he said, which I did a lot of times.

            • Kick Frenzy January 11th, 2016 at 23:24

Yeah, it was usually a good overview… that’s the part I was thinking of.

              • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:33

Yes. I liked that very much.

        • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:18

Understood. But now it seems more cumbersome. It was very quiet here today.

    • Gina Bousquet January 11th, 2016 at 21:41

We knew it, and showed our discontentment.

      • tracey marie January 11th, 2016 at 21:48

        It is a pity.

      • MagnaDave January 11th, 2016 at 23:13

        Hi, Gina!

        • Gina Bousquet January 12th, 2016 at 08:16

Hi Dave! So nice to meet you!

          • MagnaDave January 12th, 2016 at 20:40

Um, we’ve met before. We joked about you being that other Gina (whose name I can’t even remember any more, lol.

    • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:09

I barely used the site today Tracey. I feel that we’ve been all spread out and going in different directions. It looked as though there were few comments today as the same ones stayed up on the main page for hours. I gave up after encountering what I call the slow typing problem when a page is having problems when I went to The Hill. I kept refreshing and it stayed the same even when I tried to use my notifications after that.

      • MagnaDave January 11th, 2016 at 23:11

You went to The Hill? 0.o

        • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:15

Trust me, I had no intention of doing so. With the changes that started here last night which flummoxed a lot of us, I tried having an open mind and had to link to there for a story. Had problems after that, but still flipped back to Colmes to make a comment. Of course, there were no others because it was dead here and then I left this site. :(

          • MagnaDave January 11th, 2016 at 23:22

I’m not familiar enough with this site to know what’s going on but I’m getting an idea from reading the comments.

Is it a change that people can get used to, given some time?

My thing is to see where people are commenting and then join in so I’m not really attached to any particular site.

The Hill, though, is generally a cesspool (although there are some great people who comment there) so my visits there are fleeting and few.

            • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:29

I knew you referenced the Hill one time as becoming a cesspool of people who left Politico. It was in the back of my mind to stay away from.
This was a nice place with links to stories but Alan wrote overviews of what the linked story was about before so you could get an idea of it and comment without following the link. He’s not doing that now. I always went by the overview before with The Hill and Politico linked stories. When they went to other places, depending on what the story was about and if I needed to know more to comment intelligently, I would read the linked story and then come back to comment on what was called Liberaland. Then it was alan.com.
There is a real nice group of folks here, and very few trolls survive for long at all.

Tracey and I liked it here because for the most part we didn’t experience that anti-Hillary vitriol that we’ve experienced everywhere else.

              • MagnaDave January 11th, 2016 at 23:35

I avoid articles about Hillary and Bernie for that very reason. What really aggravates me (and I know it does you, too) is when someone proclaims that they will vote for one but not the other. At this point, my choice would probably be Bernie but I’ll vote for either one. How can people not understand that staying home is a virtual vote for the Republican nominee? Some of my very good online friends have that attitude and it makes me want to YELL at them (and not in a nice way).

                • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:45

Exactly. That’s why I’ve avoided Raw Story for the past couple of months. It was refreshing to be here. I had some good conversations on Nation of Change yesterday and today after getting rid of some snotty Sanders folks.
I was hearing about what the SCOTUS is up to regarding unions and I just wanted to scream at these “I’m not going to vote at all if it’s not Bernie” people. I have not come across one HRC supporter who says the same thing. I’m sure they exist, but I have not talked to or read ones declarative stupid statement yet. It seems they are more practical and worried about the future of the nation, not just themselves.
They will cause great harm to this nation by not supporting whomever wins the primary.

                    Hi Misty!

                    • mistlesuede January 12th, 2016 at 22:57

Hi! Guess what? I had a tiny amount of chocolate along with two of the three medications I take for my stomach and I did okay! OMG. I had not tasted any since April! Yay! Of course, I won’t do that very often because I don’t want to get the tummy burning again.
What do you think of the site changes?

                    • Boltorama January 12th, 2016 at 23:17

Yes! I bet it tasted good after you hadn’t had for such a long time. But please be careful and follow what your doctor says. How are things with you. I hate the new changes. I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

                    • mistlesuede January 12th, 2016 at 23:38

I’m doing okay otherwise. I will keep being careful. I don’t want to feel that horrible feeling again the rest of my life if I can avoid it.
We’re having some cold temps and snow, but we are better off than our neighbors to the south in WNY who are getting hammered.
I hate it too. I watched the SOTU and by the time I got here tonight and figured out there was a thread about it, the last comment was hours ago. I hope you will come back. I am really sad about this for that exact reason. I’ve made new friends like you who I don’t want to lose contact with and have re-discovered a couple of friends here that I lost from when we all left Huffington Post two years ago.

                    • Boltorama January 12th, 2016 at 23:40

Sunny and mild in LA. Stay safe sweetie. I’ve made new friends as well especially you :) I’ll try getting used to the new format. I don’t want to lose you.

                    • mistlesuede January 12th, 2016 at 23:44

:):):):) I so wish I lived in CA! I wouldn’t miss the cold and snow for a moment.
I will do the same and look for you too.

XOXOXOXOXOXO love ya! I’m sure we can find a way to keep in touch.

                    • mistlesuede January 12th, 2016 at 23:52

:):):) I am feeling very loved right now. You should also. Let me know if you go to hangout at any other sites and I will look for you there. In the meantime, I’m going to keep giving this a try because Alan seemed like he wanted to accommodate us from what he said in the thread. I am hoping he will change some things back to the way they were. I think the traffic went way down the past two days so I would think he would. ((hugs)) xo

                    • Boltorama January 12th, 2016 at 23:59

I sometimes go to Raw Story and Freakout Nation. Let’s hope that will make Alan do some changes to make things like they used to be. I’ll give this new format a shot. I’m going to snuggle in Misty. Big hug! Good night I’ll see ya around :)

                    • mistlesuede January 13th, 2016 at 00:08

“Snuggle in.” That is so sweet. Nite nite. Sweet dreams. Hope to see you soon.

            • tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 07:01

Like me, a great person who comments there off and on?

              • MagnaDave January 12th, 2016 at 19:28

I comment some on Raw Story, mostly Mediaite, and, very rarely, The Hill. The Hill is generally too nasty for me but there are some good people who comment there so I’ll talk with them if I see them there. Other than that, I sometimes end up at places like here if I see people that I know commenting.

                How about you?

                • tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 19:29

I am banned from mediaite and raw story….the hill, I feel the same way.

                  • MagnaDave January 12th, 2016 at 20:39

I’m sorry to hear that. I have good friends that have been banned from both and NONE of them deserved it.

                    • tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 20:51

I did not deserve the raw story ban, I did lose my temper with a regular on mediaite who was trolling me.

                    • MagnaDave January 12th, 2016 at 21:21

There is one guy there, with at least two different screen names, that tries to get just about everyone banned. His little game is to try to passively-aggressively violate the TOS (which he does all the time). I’m not sure why does that (other than being very insecure) and why the site puts up with it.

                    • tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 22:12

                      The site loves the clicks

                    • MagnaDave January 12th, 2016 at 22:13

Yup. The irony is that, if he has his way, he’ll be the only one there, lol.

                    • tracey marie January 13th, 2016 at 15:51

Exactlly..he is pissed since politico, mediaite, thehill and FON, ll have banned him

                    • tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 20:52

The atlantic is not bad, some fools. I am looking for a place to settle in.

                    • MagnaDave January 12th, 2016 at 21:19

Please let me know if you find one.

                    • tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 22:13

I think I follow you, I will let you know. It would be nice to see you around. The hill has a couple of great guys…coco??? is one.

                    • MagnaDave January 12th, 2016 at 22:17

I don’t know if I’ve seen him commenting (unless you’re thinking of that “Coccyx” guy).

                      EZWriter is a riot, imo.

                    • tracey marie January 13th, 2016 at 15:50

Yes…there are a few there I just upvote.

    • MagnaDave January 11th, 2016 at 23:14

      Hi, Tracey!

  3. Kick Frenzy January 11th, 2016 at 23:40

Alan, I just want to say in a separate comment here… I really don’t want to come across like I’m piling on you or being a douchebag or anything.
If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t bother and when design matters, I figure it’s best to critique as honestly as I can.

(It’s gotta kinda suck though to have the exciting new roll out get some harsh critiques out of the starting gate. So… sorry about that.)

    • mistlesuede January 11th, 2016 at 23:46

      Exactly.

    • Budda January 13th, 2016 at 10:22

I really think it has changed into something else. I don’t like it one bit.

  4. jstsmlbrlcnsrvtvguy January 11th, 2016 at 23:57

    like the straight-from-the-source article thing.

also like the collection of sites/blogroll thing.

    • Alan January 12th, 2016 at 10:11

      so you like these changes?

      • rg9rts January 12th, 2016 at 22:42

        Thats one /

      • jstsmlbrlcnsrvtvguy January 13th, 2016 at 00:23

        sure… they’re ok… i think…(not really used to ’em)

might like even more if a single site instead of two or three(?)

  5. tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 07:00

EWWWWWWWW! jerry hall must be broke, she just got engaged to murdoch.

    • Gina Bousquet January 12th, 2016 at 08:11

She’s either senile or a gold digger.

      • tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 08:17

Gold digger, the picture where that old shriveled mess is kissing her cheek gives me shivers. She is posing not feeling emotion.

        • Gina Bousquet January 12th, 2016 at 08:20

          Shame on her.

              I remember her… Such scumbag wouldn’t care.

  6. Alan January 12th, 2016 at 07:48

Here’s what we’re trying to accomplish. Thanks for your feedback, and we’re willing to adjust:
alan.com, since it’s my name is basically a branding site where you can find out about my radio show and connect with me on social media and on this thread.
liberaland.com brings in feeds automatically from progressive sites we choose.
colmesfeed is he news site where I pick stories like I did on the old alan.com

So hear are some questions, and thank you for taking the time to answer them. We don’t want to lose you.

Do you like the Drudge format?
Do you like that when you open a story on colmesfeed you see the story in a frame from the original source?
Would you prefer the old look of alan.com, even if we called it liberaland or something else?
Even if we go back to the old look of alan.com, my interest is in curating stories more than writing them, which has always been the case, and so the iframes allow me to do that.
What other changes would you like to see?

Thanks for being here, and let’s work together to make the end result a great user experience for all of us.

    Alan

    • Gina Bousquet January 12th, 2016 at 08:10

Please go back to the old format.

    • tracey marie January 12th, 2016 at 08:16

I like the old format, easier to interact with others. The comfort level we have all developed is part of the issue, I want to be more comfortable here. I like the second location, colmes-feed, easy to navigate to other sites for an individual story….bring back that old homestead feeling to at least one of your sites.

      • Gina Bousquet January 12th, 2016 at 08:39

        A thousand upvotes!

    • Hirightnow January 12th, 2016 at 08:55

      >(Format) Not too keen on the Drudge format; I liked the alan.com format better (Main frame, subframes next to it, frames below…seeing “Trump eats live baby” is one thing, but seeing the link superimposed on a picture will grab more attention.
      >(Story in frame) Absolutely LOVE the way that’s been changed. Great idea!
      >(Old look) wellllllllll……….personally,yes.
      >(Other changes) Tooltips with expanded info on story:{Hover pointer over “Trump eats live baby.}[“Sources report that Donald Trump was seen eating a baby at a Kansas City Arbys, but did not use any Horsey Sauce“]
(Okay, that last one was a bit facetious, but you get the point,I’m sure.)

      Thank you for the sites.

so how would you (and others here) feel if we kept alan.com as it is now and then took liberaland.com with that grid format and made that like the way alan.com was up until yesterday, with the story in frames when you go to post pages?

        • Hirightnow January 12th, 2016 at 15:48

I think mea_mark said it best; it just seems like there’s too many places to go. The old alan.com you could get the new stuff on the top, and scroll down for the older articles.

          • Alan January 12th, 2016 at 17:19

on Colmesfeed it’s the same…new stuff at the top of each column and older stuff below

    • mea_mark January 12th, 2016 at 09:47

It seems to me that the biggest problem is too many stories. It makes it hard to choose what to look at and everybody goes different directions. The sense of community is getting lost.

A solution might be to have a section of what you think are the most important stories of the day. You might include a sentence or two of your own as to why you think that. Keep the number of stories in that section to about 10. As the stories lose activity replace them with another one. It will give a focus for everyone but still allow for people to expand out and see what else is happening, while still remaining within the community.

      • Alan January 12th, 2016 at 10:11

The idea behind colmesfeed was to have more stories so there was greater variety and more choices. Everybody can still gather on the open thread, or on any story they choose.

        • Budda January 13th, 2016 at 10:20

I don’t need more stories. I do know how to click on other sites.

    • Kick Frenzy January 12th, 2016 at 20:12

      Ok…

Alan.com – I get it and personally, I think it’s fine as is. (I’ve yet to see what it’s like when I sign in though.)

Liberaland – It’s just “Links to our friends” and it’s weird that it has a name that implies it’s a site unto itself instead of just being a links page. The description is misleading, saying that it’s “The latest news and opinions from hand-chosen progressive sites all in one place” when it isn’t that at al… it’s just links to other sites, which is fine… but it would be better if it were referred to that way.

Colmesfeed – I’m with others in that I appreciated having a picture related to the story to click through to. The Drudge format, without strong bold link text, just gets confusing. That being said, I do see now how it works and that there are comments under the iframed stories, which is better than I thought it was. So, not horribad… could be WAY better by just getting rid of the ad that comes in from the left and increasing the font size and/or bolding all the story links.

      • Kick Frenzy January 12th, 2016 at 20:22

Ok, I don’t see much difference when logged in besides being able to use the live chat.
I’m assuming the “discussion forums” are the comment threads?
(I’m used to “forums” referring to, like, more traditional forums.)

    • rg9rts January 12th, 2016 at 22:37

It’s a PITA to have to keep jumping from site to site .

    • Budda January 13th, 2016 at 10:19

I tried to reply in an orderly and civilized way and couldn’t. So , no more nice attempts at commenting. Your new format stinks Alan.

    • eyelashviper January 13th, 2016 at 14:31

Like the old look of alan.com, with image blocks.
The new Colmes is just too busy, small type, too much, does not seem organized, and is hard to look at and view things.
Like the site with links to other sites…
      thanks!

      • Alan January 13th, 2016 at 17:27

thanks for the feedback. I’m considering all comments to see how we can move forward in the best way

      • Alan January 14th, 2016 at 11:24

        it’s back!

    • robert January 13th, 2016 at 18:26

Even if we go back to the old look of alan.com,
my interest is in curating stories more than writing them, which has
always been the case, and so the iframes allow me to do that.
      ——————————
      works for me

one vote for the old format / No facebook replies

Alan, I’m getting old and don’t like too much change too suddenly.

  8. mea_mark January 12th, 2016 at 10:29

Bernie Sanders got moveon.org endorsement this morning. About 79% of members voted in poll for Sanders. I would call that a landslide. Feel The Bern

    • Pono January 12th, 2016 at 17:41

The 79% represents an aggressive social media effort by the Sanders campaign to inundate letters to the newspapers and the accompanying comments, flood opposition FB pages with opposing points of view and deluge online debate polls. I congratulate the Bernie Sanders social media firm for it efforts to control the message.

      • Hirightnow January 12th, 2016 at 18:02

        That’s what’s called “politics”.

      • mea_mark January 12th, 2016 at 20:04

This is about moveon.org members. They voted in an online poll sent to them by moveon.org.
