Bush Campaign Admits ‘Mistaken And Conflated’ Claim On Receiving NRA Award

Jeb Bush’s campaign acknowledged it the candidate has “mistaken and conflated” his story about being awarded the NRA Statesman of the Year award.

The former Florida governor has told the story on several occasions, saying he received a rifle from then-NRA president Charlton Heston and was the recipient of the group’s “statesman of the year” honor in 2003.

While the NRA rates the records of politicians on gun issues, the group does not hand out a statesman of the year award. In 2003, the NRA held its annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, with Bush as the keynote speaker. The NRA’s meeting page from that year makes no mention of Bush receiving any award.

A BuzzFeed News search of various archive search engines like Lexis Nexis for the “statesman of the year” award and Jeb Bush only turned up comments this year made by Bush.

“In recounting the story, Jeb was mistaken and conflated multiple events unintentionally. Heston met with Jeb at that NRA convention and was the head of the NRA at the time, but it was Kayne Robinson who presented Jeb with the rifle for being keynote speaker,” a spokesman told BuzzFeed News.

Yeah, that would make sense but why did they make the same mistake twice?

          Unfortunately.
I watched quite a bit of your game yesterday. Thought they were going to win actually. :(

I was hoping they would get blown out. McCoy is coming back next year. Time to burn all of my Chargers merchandise. This is the same organization that fired a coach who led the team to a 14-2 record. I was mad as heck when I hear McCoy was coming back but not surprised. The team went 0-6 against their division yet they decide to bring back the coach and his entire staff. Chargers have gone from a mediocre team to flat out bad. Congrats on your Bills playing spoiler. I actually picked them to win.

I’m sorry to hear that you are pretty pissed about the Chargers management. It sounds like they need a shakeup big time. Who was the coach that was so successful?
The Bill’s did well. I do believe they could have finished the season in better position, but this first year with the new coach and his hand picked staff, way too many penalties and sometimes a total lack of cohesion were too hard to overcome. I do also believe they could have beat the Patriots both times if things had come together like they did in the game yesterday. There were players that did awesome stuff yesterday that we never saw on the field before during the entire season! Big mistake. And then players like Boobie Dixon (yep that is his name) who has been around a long time were underutilized which frustrated me. I still prefer the defensive coordinator we had previously. I was pissed when he left, but I knew why. Ryan wanted his own men and wouldn’t have worked well with him. That did damage to the team.
Bill’s fans are very loyal and although disappointed, they will still be supporting Rex and the team when summer training camp starts with even more enthusiasm.
I wish things had been better for your team too.

There was a player in the NBA whose name was Boobie Gibson. He played with the Cavaliers and was a pretty damn good shooter. The coach the Chargers fired in 2006 was Marty Schotteinheimer. Chargers went 14-2 but they lost a divisional playoff game to the 10-6 Patriots. Marty wanted his brother to be the defensive coordinator but Spanos said no. Marty wouldn’t give up so Spanos fired him. We then got Norv Turner who I have to admit is more likable than McCoy. He led us to three straight AFC West crowns. He utilized every player on the roster and our running game and special teams were some of the best in the league. We missed the playoffs in 2010 but we had a ton of injuries that year. The team finished with a 9-7 record and I thought that the team would make the playoffs with a healthy roster the next year. The Chargers started 2011 cold but like all the previous years they heated up toward the end of the season. Our late season wasn’t enough though and we missed the playoffs again. In 2012 the Chargers were just plain bad finishing 7-9 and it became clear that Turner needed to go. Then came Mike McCoy who got us into the playoffs with a thrilling regular season finale win over the Chiefs. We then beat the Bengals in the wild card game before losing to Denver. Okay I thought McCoy turned out to be a good hire. Chargers started 2014 hot but then went on a mid season slump. They then heated up again by beating the Ravens and 49ers on the road. All they needed to do was to win the final game against the Chiefs and they would clinch the final playoff spot. They lost that game and what was anticipated to be a season in which the Chargers would make the playoffs became a 4-12 disaster. Chargers need to get a new owner fast. I’m just upset to see Phillip Rivers give 150% and see it all go to waste.

                  Ouch!
I remember the Schotteinheimer name! After that I don’t know any of them. You know the games they play inside the league with so many coaches that come and go from different areas of the team really hurts the teams. I see we may lose a good running backs coach already to Miami.
I know from first hand experience printing the programs are a nightmare as they gain and lose players constantly making changes to their numbers sometimes a few days before a game and almost every week for half the season! How confusing is that when you are actually running a team? I don’t know how there is any continuity at all. It has to make it very easy to have one portion of the team fall and bring the entire team down with the help of any weak coaching staff and/or new ones.
Maybe you can root for the Bill’s next year. :) We need all the help we can get and it sounds like you are done supporting your own team, not that I blame you.

Rivers keeps me emotionally invested in the team. The guy is the best competitor to ever have play in a Bolts uniform. It’s not like we’re completely terrible. We have a nice mix of veterans and young players it’s just that the coaching staff, Front Office, and ownership is too inept. Allen and Verrett are diamonds in the rough. Philon, Ingram, and Reyes are good on defense. Fluker is our best player on our offensive line. We’re in the playoff race every year and I don’t see the Chargers sucking forever like the Browns or Raiders.

So I guess you didn’t really mean you are going to start a fire and throw all your Chargers merch into it, right? LOL

                    • Boltorama January 4th, 2016 at 23:08

No I just printed out a picture of Dean Spanos and Mike McCoy and burned those instead. It’s not the players fault they’re being underutilized. Plus I spent a lot of money of them so that probably wouldn’t make things better.

Glad I could “talk you down.” Hehehe.

In a nutshell you expect the unexpected as a Chargers fan. Just when you think they’re out of the playoff race they go on a hot streak and just when you think they’re going to win a gimme game they blow it.

                • mistlesuede January 4th, 2016 at 22:41

                  That is exasperating.

It can be thrilling at times :)

Hehehe! That is true for a number of things, total exasperation and then thrills when you finally achieve something.

Well, to be fair, this shrub is having a really tough time keeping all his lies in order. No one can compete with the other lying liars like Trump and Christie. They are superior at it.
Sorry Jeb! Maybe it’s early onset dementia.
