Ben Carson Pushes 14.9% Flat Tax

Posted by | January 4, 2016 14:33 | Filed under: Politics

At least Ben Carson has a policy on something.

Carson released a plan on Monday to replace the current income tax code with a uniform 14.9 percent tax rate, saying it would help lift Americans out of poverty and was more in line with the U.S. Constitution.

Carson’s plan also eliminates taxes on capital gains, dividends and interest income, according to an outline released on his campaign website. It also abolishes the so-called the death tax – taxes imposed on the value of a deceased person’s estate before distribution to heirs…

Under his plan, people living below the poverty line would pay something in taxes but it may be less than the flat rate because “we don’t want to add to their woes,” Carson said.

Lift people out of poverty, how? The extremely poor pay no taxes, the poor pay little taxes . This just helps the wealthy and corporations.

Under his plan, poor people who currently pay no taxes will see an increase, he’s eliminating taxes on the biggest sources of wealth for the wealthy, he’s eliminating a tax that only a minute portion of the country has to pay (estate tax – estates have to be more than $5 mil before it’s taxed now!) and guess who’s going to be taking the hit when his budget doesn’t balance?

Let me guess…wic/food assistance, welfare, and other social services.

Those services are expendable. The donors don’t need them so it won’t hurt the politicians when they are looking for contributions.

That should be the rumps campaign slogan lol.

That would be my take, too. Can’t cut defense or corporate welfare.

We knew he didn’t from the beginning. It’s not brain surgery.

He did pick up some steam but once the RWNJS found out he was black everything went downhill for him.

The people at the bottom, who pay no income tax, but still pay payroll taxes and sales taxes, would be knocked further into poverty with any attempt at a flat tax. They barely subsist now. And of course, the people at the top would benefit enormously from a flat tax. That is, if they pay any at all. http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/and-then-i-said-pay-taxes-what-am-i-poor.jpg

Right. Both the flat tax and the ‘so-called) fair tax (national sales tax) are backdoor tax cuts for the rich.
Many retired and working poor have a lower tax rate than 14.5% now, so he’ll RAISE their taxes so the well heeled can cut theirs.

He said this all soft and quiet so his followers think it’s very good.

    • Larry Schmitt January 4th, 2016 at 17:08

The way he says everything. It proves a nut job doesn’t have to be noisy.

He and Trump are on opposite ends of the volume control on the crazy train.

Yeah benny, I guess no one told you but your time is up.

Earlier, he wanted a “tithing” tax of 10% because it was more “Biblical”.

My guess as to why he’s now saying 14.9% rather than 15% is that he thinks having a decimal point in the rate makes it seem born out of financial analysis rather than the more likely reaching into his backside for the figure.
