World Leaders Agree To ‘Historic’ Climate Change Deal

Posted by | December 12, 2015 15:50 | Filed under: Good News Planet Top Stories

World leaders in Paris have agreed to a pact regarded as an “historic turning point.”

“This is a tremendous victory for all of our citizens,” U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said at the summit after the landmark agreement passed. “We have taken a critical step forward.”

The first-ever international accord, agreed to by nearly 200 nations, requires all countries to take steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Leaders burst into cheers after it was passed, many hugging each other with tears in their eyes.

The “Paris agreement” also aims to keep the rise in global temperatures “well below” 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) from pre-industrial times to the end of this century and “endeavor to limit” them even further, to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Had it not been for the steadfastness of our brilliant beloved POTUS

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA (not ashamed to use his real name – like Rafael Edward)

this wonderful day may never have been.

          THANK YOU POTUS OBAMA!

from a grateful citizen in a grateful nation of a grateful planet!!!

Love your oxymoron. “Scientists of the gopee”, a few paid mercenaries, no real science involved.

It looks like the world is changing. Time to get on board with the plan or get left behind.

It does not matter, the Republicans will poo poo this and spin it in to Armageddon for business. China is the example of what the Republicans want, no regs and all for business at the expense of the people. Breathing is overrated anyway.

The owners (the real owners) of the republican party won’t be pleased that about 190 other countries are standing up to them.

The GOP now agrees the global warming is real , but it is 100% cause by Obama

    • Mensa Member December 12th, 2015 at 21:18

But these racists can’t call a black man by his respectful name.

So, they blame global warming on “Barry.”

  8. Obewon December 12th, 2015 at 20:14

‘GOP are out of touch with reality’-Repubs are rolling into another election year defeat.

    • Buford2k11 December 13th, 2015 at 10:07

there ya go…some of the real enemies of our nation….

      • Frank Foster December 13th, 2015 at 15:00

The Fascist darlings…all of them are tools.

  9. Mensa Member December 12th, 2015 at 21:15

I just heard on the radio that the GOP is the only political party in THE WHOLE WORLD that denies global warming.

(I also just heard Ted Cruz, on the radio, saying that a global warming is a liberal conspiracy.)

If you are an American conservative with even the slightest ability for self-reflection, you must ask yourself, “What the hell is wrong with me?”

  10. Gina Bousquet December 13th, 2015 at 07:06

Now it’s the whole world vs the GOP.

I could not help but smile from ear to ear watching the cameras pan to Al Gore a number of times yesterday while everyone was clapping, and many were crying tears of joy at what they had accomplished. Al should feel so very proud that his life work on climate change has come to fruition. Thanks Al Gore.

So after paying for our pollution reductions we are supposed to pay other countries to reduce theirs?
And compete in the marketplace against companies that “Our” government is subsidizing?
Why can’t they pay for theirs, like we did?

    • dewired4u December 13th, 2015 at 15:24

      because we stole theirs?

      • amongoose December 13th, 2015 at 21:52

So just what has America stolen from whom?

        • dewired4u December 14th, 2015 at 00:42

America was stolen from the people who were already here then we stole humans from Africa and made much treasure from their labor is just some of what the u s stole and Europe raped and pillaged south America and Africa stealing vast treasure leaving them broke and brolen.

          • amongoose December 14th, 2015 at 09:21

You can make the case that it is stolen land ….. but.

Doesn’t that mean that all who have taken land by conquest have to give it back?

Does this mean that all conquered lands must be returned?

            If so ……

All whites must go back to Europe,

Minsk must be given back to Poland,

China has to give back all but northeast Chinese coastal area,

The US southwest was stolen from Native Americans by the same colonial power that conquered them. So wouldn’t Mexico’s claim on the southwest be invalid as well?

All muslims from the African west coast to Jordan must leave because it was all conquered by the sword (and muslims sold most of those slaves).

There are a lot of people who are going to have to move.

And having Caddo heritage, I’ll help you pack.

don’t be stupid. the wealth that was stolen is what needs to be paid back.

              • amongoose December 14th, 2015 at 15:18

Does that apply to all of histories conquerors?

              • amongoose December 14th, 2015 at 22:46

Does this apply to all conquerors as well?

                • dewired4u December 14th, 2015 at 23:53

ya if it’s documented and can be traced like they can with the conquistador plunders or the broken treaties with the Indians. museums are returning artifacts that were stolen so
                  why not the treasure also.

  14. lynchie December 13th, 2015 at 14:28

to little far, far, far to late

    • dewired4u December 13th, 2015 at 15:26

After 9/11 they grounded all air flights for a few days and the weather changed the temperature dropped and the sky cleared so if we stop what we are doing it can heal its self but we have to help.

      • lynchie December 13th, 2015 at 15:57

stopping air flights for a couple of days did zero. We pump thousands of tons of carbon into the atmosphere every day. look at the arctic ice we are close to the tipping point and this agreement does not do enough quickly enough

        • dewired4u December 13th, 2015 at 17:45

you missed my point, after 9/11 was just an example that if we do something the earth reacts and can correct its self all we have to do is go big but I have my doubts.

0% chance of being endorsed by this Congress , will have to wait till after the next election

  17. Robert M. Snyder December 13th, 2015 at 22:24

    Dec 2, 2015:

“More than 2,400 coal-fired power stations are under construction or being planned around the world”

    http://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/12/02/the-truth-about-china-2400-new-coal-plants-will-thwart-any-paris-cop21-pledges/

Does anyone believe that these projects will be canceled?

    • Obewon December 13th, 2015 at 22:33

Nobody but a complete moron (e.g. Hypocritically burning waste oil to heat Snyder’s home & Complaining about fossil fuel coal phaseouts) cites climate denier Hal Watts! Shithead Watts lack of Credentials: Anthony Watts studied Electrical Engineering and Meteorology at Purdue University, but he did not graduate.[1], [2] He is a former television meteorologist. (That’s like citing Greedy oil Polluter & Fired Gameshow Host Donnie’16~) http://www.desmogblog.com/anthony-watts

    • dewired4u December 14th, 2015 at 00:46

old plants wear out and the new ones are more efficient, you don’t just turn off the switch you transition to renewables.

    • anothertoothpick December 14th, 2015 at 07:20

Relax will ya. I am sure the gop will come up with a different plan with different countries.
