Trump Adviser Unaware Of How Judaism Works

Posted by | December 7, 2015 07:31 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

A Trump adviser criticized President Obama for giving an Oval Office speech the first night of Chanukah. In other words, the Trump campaign is clueless about Judaism.

Just days after his candidate delivered a speech loaded with Jewish stereotypes to a group of Jewish Republicans, Trump adviser Daniel Scavino Jr. said it was “disrespectful” for the president to give a major speech when Jews are celebrating Hanukkah:

Hanukkah is a holiday of minimal religious significance to Jews — its cultural importance in the United States is largely due to its proximity to Christmas. (It helps Jewish kids not feel left out when their Christian friends are getting a whole bunch of presents).

On the other hand, Shabbat, which begins on Friday night and ends on Saturday night, is very important to Jews.

Another well thought out, researched statement from the Trump team.

Probably doesn’t think that Jews would let prime deal-making days like Friday and Saturday go to waste.

    “I’m a negotiator — like you folks”
“Is there anyone in this room who doesn’t negotiate deals? Probably more than any room I’ve ever spoken.”

      No stereotype there, huh?

      • bpollen December 7th, 2015 at 16:29

Maybe if the speech was longer…

“Hey, I brought ham sandwiches for everybody! Who wants some?”

not to mention that Chanukah is a celebration of the war victory of the Macabees and the re-dedication of the temple. It seems to me that standing up against terrorism is just what Chanukah is about.

True, but not. It was not a big celebration, it was private and no gifts were given as today. In the 70’s a Rabbi said to make it national and to fit in with American customs so jews should light the proper mennorah visibly.Since it usually occured around the xtian holiday it was brought forth as a national holiday for the children to feel part of the celebrations of xmass…with a twist.

When it is celebrated as the beautiful thanksgiving it is, it is a solemn and true.

Trump doesn’t actually have a campaign or a platform. He simply spews trailer park sound bytes.

every one of these holidays associated with blsht myths are at the foundation of all the ugliness in the world today – either because of the religions specifically or the buy buy buy insanity.

    • lynchie December 7th, 2015 at 12:58

Believing in reality is too hard for these folks

    A swing…

…and a whiff! Hilarious! Not only getting all sanctimonious, but even not recognizing when Jews observe the Sabbath (or, more properly, Shabbat) which happens every week!

Even Trump’s Jewish supporters have to be doing face palms about now.

    • Richard Banville December 7th, 2015 at 17:57

I find it hard to conceive that Trump would have any Jewish supporters.
(Or Latino, or women, or Asian, or African-American, or Muslim, or anyone with any brains or education, for that matter).

Oh but he does. They work for him and are very highly paid. His executive vice president, general counsel and public mouthpiece, Michael Cohen, who probably makes around one million annually is Jewish, so are his most prominent litigation attorneys, some of his important executives, and his daughter Ivanka who converted upon marriage and is relatively observant. Well, that’s about it, Richard, for his Jewish supporters.

A Jewish pal I know at work pointed out that Trump made a few snide cracks about Jews being good at making money and making deals in his remarks, and doesn’t understand the philosophy of “Tikkun Olam,” making the world a better place.

Lighting the Menorah is done over eight days. Is the President supposed to put everything on hold?
    Ignoramus.
