Actually you can’t blame him entirely, he gets his information from Faux News and in one of Lis Wiehl’s book segments the author being interviewed, renowned apparently for his historical accuracy, made exactly the same claim. In fact he said there were two depictions of the Star of David on the dollar bill, put there in appreciation for the loan.
Perhaps Faux can verify the story for Carson.
