Obama: Climate Change An Economic Imperative

Posted by | December 1, 2015 09:40 | Filed under: Planet Politics

President Obama, speaking at the climate change summit in Paris, says this is an issue that needs to be addressed right now.

“This one trend — climate change — affects all trends. If we let the world keep warming as fast as it is, and sea levels rising as fast as they are … then before long we’re going to have to devote more and more of our economic and military resources … to adapting to the various consequences of a changing planet,” Obama said. “This is an economic and security imperative that we have to tackle now.”

I’ll tell you how much comes out of this conference…..0…everyone want their’s first ..

I challenge every attendee at the conference to step up to the plate and reduce their personal carbon dioxide production. They should all vow to travel home via carbon free transportation methods only.

If all the climate change deniers just held their breath for the next hour or so that might have a significant impact on global CO2 concentrations.

The same could be said for those that believe in man made climate change. Lets look at what is at stake according to the scientists.

Earth is quickly approaching a point of no return where we will make vast portions of the planet uninhabitable. If they truly believed this then the obvious solution is a mass removal of people from the planet in order to protect the planet for future generations. The sooner this is accomplished the fewer people would need to be removed would be my guess. I mean what is the likely hood that we can really reduce our global carbon dioxide output in the next 20 years? Sure America and some European countries could implement massive renewable energy campaigns but that is only a small portion of the problem right? What are we going to do with China? What are we going to do for all those cars on the road? How long do you think it would take to replace every car on the road with an electric vehicle and produce enough power to run them? It is obvious that we are going to blow past the concentrations that supposedly lead to the destruction of the planet without some massive removal of source points of CO2 right? So who gets to decide who lives and who dies?

NASA debunks you as a scientifically illiterate delusional-disorder paranoid e.g. “Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals1 show that 97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree: Climate-warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities. In addition, most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position. The following is a partial list of these organizations, along with links to their published statements and a selection of related resources.” http://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/

I thank Obe for his data but the 97% figure is not the main point. Whether you give credence to the irrefutable data on temperature, glacial melting, ocean warming, ocean acidification and sea level rise or not, all these things are happening. It’s not a question of belief, it’s a question of accepting an enormous body of data and measurements compiled but tens of thousands of oceanographers, glaciologists, geologists, atmospheric scientists, and climatologists. None of whom are involved in a grand conspiracy to soak the tax payers for big money.

Large populations will be forced to migrate. Coastal environments will be flooded. Semi-arid habitats that are currently marginal for humans will become uninhabitable. The people who live there wil have to move somewhere, probably resulting in great unrest unless there’s a plan to accomodate them. So when you speak of “the obvious solution” speak to the rw pols who argue over the cause but ignore the result.

Deniers love to throw out China and India and suggest any effort is futile because of them. Do you know what nation has the most ambitious program to shift to low-emission and renewable energy sources? China. Deniers love to claim that shifting to renewables will cause economic depression. Do you know who has the most advanced program for decentralizing energy production and encouraging wind and solar? Economic powerhouse Germany.

You ask how long will it take to replace internal combustion engines with electric. Probably a decade or less with proper incentivization and regulation. How long did it take us to switch from leaded gas to unleaded and lower emissions? About a decade to get all the worst polluters off the road.

The problem as I see it is rooted in conservatism. Cons fear change and don’t want to upset the status quo even if it can be demonstrated that the status quo will kill them.

Final point. Will we reverse the CO2 concentrations in a decade or two? Clearly not. It’s taken over a century to get where we are now but the sooner we start working to reverse the trend the better the lives of our kids and grandkids will be although the kids are going to have a rough time.

lot’s of well dressed folks being redundant in their state of piousness but nothing of any real long range effect will ever happen.

I believe both you and rg9rts are mistaken. If you’re correct than humanity is in for a very rough future.

Now the RWNJs on their radio talk shows are lambasting Obama because he spoke longer than his allotted time at the conference.
