Laquan McDonald Shooting Leads To Chicago Top Cop Firing

Posted by | December 1, 2015 14:29 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has fired Chicago’s chief of police.

Saying public confidence in the Police Department “has been shaken and eroded” in the wake of the Laquan McDonald controversy, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Tuesday that Police Supt. Garry McCarthy is out as the city’s top cop.

The mayor said he and McCarthy began discussing the future of the department on Sunday, and on Tuesday morning, he asked for the superintendent’s resignation. First Deputy Supt. John Escalante will serve as acting superintendent while the Chicago Police Board conducts a national search for a permanent replacement for McCarthy.

McCarthy’s ouster comes a week after Police Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder in the October 2014 shooting death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. Hours after Van Dyke was charged, Emanuel and McCarthy released police dashboard camera video of Van Dyke shooting McDonald 16 times.

Very Well done, but if the video hadn’t been forced to come to light he’d still be there!

This isn’t the 1950’s …you can’t cover this up forever …so Mr Clean Emanuel isn’t so clean after all

Rahm is trying to save his own hide, but I hope he is forced to follow soon.

      • rg9rts December 1st, 2015 at 17:40

I never cared for him…don’t know why…just didn’t like him

        • Suzanne McFly December 1st, 2015 at 23:04

Me neither, he always seemed slimy to me. I can’t stand someone that avoids eye contact and he never looks in the camera. The camera is the best way to interact with the public but he seems to be looking down his nose at us IMO.

He is an elected official, thus, you cannot force him to resign.

        • Suzanne McFly December 2nd, 2015 at 08:14

Pressure can force him to step down.

          • Lyndia December 2nd, 2015 at 16:05

I don’t think so. He is a stubborn mfer.

Maybe Bill can talk some sense to him.

you can’t tell me this pos didn’t know about what happened to that kid. so, his hands were never clean. and if the D.A. is worth her weight in gold, she would come down hard on any and everyone involved covering this up. it’s been time to clean house.

      • rg9rts December 2nd, 2015 at 01:13

        Starting with Emanuel

      • Lyndia December 2nd, 2015 at 02:40

He knew about what happened to the kid, and Barbara Byrd Bennett, also.

      • Lyndia December 2nd, 2015 at 02:47

The States Attorney, was involved with the attempted cover up, also.

        • whatthe46 December 2nd, 2015 at 09:04

actually, I thought that the states attorney was the one who reached out to lynch.

          • Lyndia December 2nd, 2015 at 16:05

No, it took her 400 days to charge the racist cop. That was to long and that is what people is upset about. In the mean time, this cop is still drawing his salary, just like Servin, the cop that shot the Boyd girl in the back of her head.

Rahm is part of the problem, not the solution…

  3. labman57 December 1st, 2015 at 21:04

The abhorrent actions of Van Dyke are only part of the problem.
It appears that the police dept made a concerted effort to cover up the incident by deliberately deleting damning video evidence from nearby business establishments.

That type of conduct is likely part of the Chicago P.D’s culture.

and the news gets worse for the chicago police IF lisa madigan follows through ?

heads should roll. the whole damn department needs to be revamped. I hate to say this, but, these pissy “cops” should resign while they have the chance for any pension. otherwise, firing should commence immediately. not only firing and loss of pensions, but charges for brutality and murder and accomplices. oh, and even if they resign, if charges can be brought against them, please DO IT! and go for the maximum punishment in prison and no less.

      • robert December 1st, 2015 at 21:38

there is another shooting that took place about a week apart from Mcdonalds where a kid got shot almost as many times then the CPD placed a rusty gun in the kid’s hand. the story is just coming out and it got buried wit this incident Thats why i think lisa madigan is now getting involved.

i think your right, heads are going to roll

        • whatthe46 December 1st, 2015 at 22:24

yeah, I think, if i’m correct, that the families looked at a tape and there was no gun.

          • Lyndia December 2nd, 2015 at 02:44

Right, but they think they have the video showing the police planting a gun on the young man.
