Congressman Ryan Costello was giving a talk at my job last week. I asked him about the SAFE act, which he voted for. I wanted to know what information we can get from this kind of legislation that is not already covered in the current vetting process.

I was told that the extra layer of security SAFE provides is having the Head of Homeland Security personally sign off on each refugee. Needing clarification, I asked, “So you mean one person to sign off all the refugees?” He then stated casually, “Well he has people in his office”.

He then went on to explain that the purpose of SAFE is to avoid anyone from Homeland Security denying they failed to provide a guarantee at a possible hearing, in the future.

Upon further conversation with Congressman Costello I learned that SAFE only applies to Syrian and Iraqi refugees.

I asked about other ways one may enter the USA such as student and work visas. He quickly responded that we will see more on that issue in the near future.

So here it is folks, we have one person to sign off on 10,000 refugees. The refugees are from a very narrow and specific geographic location. All this so that in the event of
a possible hearing, sometime in the unknown future, Homeland Security will not
be able to deny they failed to provide a guarantee. We can also look forward to further
restrictions from just about anyone else who wishes to enter the Unites States.

This is what the Right will accomplish with yet more money wasting, time wasting and fear mongering legislation while at the same time putting thousands of lives at risk. History
will not be kind about this.
