Limbaugh: You Can’t Blame Bush Because ‘ISIS Didn’t Exist’ When He Left Office
Ignoring how ISIS was formed, Rush Limbaugh ignorantly stands up for George W. Bush in an effort to blame President Obama for ISIS.
Limbaugh asserted on Sunday that President Barack Obama was avoiding responsibility for creating ISIS by tracing the origins of the terrorist group back to the Iraq invasion.
“People are scared, we’ve got these refugees coming in and nobody can vet them, and yet, we’re told, ‘Don’t be a bigot, don’t be a racist, don’t be a xenophobe’” Limbaugh complained to Fox News host Chris Wallace. “We’re none of those things…
“The people leading the country today… they see us as the problem, not the solution, they think that we are responsible for some of these problems,” Limbaugh grumbled. “They fall back and blame George W. Bush for what’s going on. ISIS didn’t exist when Bush left office.”
Earlier this year, Politifact determined that GOP hopeful Jeb Bush was “mostly false” after he made a similar claim about ISIS not existing when his brother was president.
According to the National Counterterrorism Center, the group al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) was established in 2004 and later renamed to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which is also commonly known as ISIS.

This is unreasonable of us to insist that Limbaugh base his bleatings on facts. How’s a bigot to make a living if that is the condition that guides his efforts?

Actually the vetting process for a refuge goes through three different agencies including the FBI and takes 18 months to two years.
Too bad we can’t say the same for actual terrorists.

Actually, the groups origins can arguably be traced to a little before Bush. Their growth and rise to prominence, however, are a direct result of Bush’s inept Middle Eastern policies.

The Iraqi military that Bush fired when we invaded became the leaders of ISIS in late 2007, certainly all in in 2008 and President Obama wasn’t elected until Nov. of 08.

I had thought that the ISIS crowd started in 07. It may well go back even further. Some suggest that the roots really started back in 05 if not even earlier. Very shortly after Bush fired the Iraqi military, the military leaders joined with the rebels and became an offshoot of Al Qaeda. The ‘name change’ happened around the beginning of 08 IIRC.
