Rep. Schakowsky: Paris Attacks ‘Chlling Reminder’ We Need Tighter Gun Laws

Illinois Congresswoman Jan Shakowsky says the Paris attacks should be a wakeup call for us to have stricter gun laws.

…obviously it is frightening for every western country, but I do want to remind you, before we killed a jihadist named Awlaki, he did a video that said to Americans, ‘join the jihad and get guns, because it’s so easy in the United States of America to get a weapon,’” Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky said on SiriusXM radio this week.

“And that ought to be a chilling reminder because, aside from blowing themselves up, which is uh, of course, not about small weapons,” she continued. “These people used the kinds of weapons that are still available in the United States of America. And I think it ought cause us to have another consideration of sensible gun safety laws.”

Finally someone pointing to the problem and actually calling it a problem. Isn’t that step one in Bills 12 step program?

No, you have it all wrong. We have to make more guns available so people with handguns and rifles can kill attackers with automatic weapons.

So we are lying on the ground 10 feet away from each other. The terrorist walks up to you takes aim and shoots you in the head. The terrorist comes up to me and I use my pistol and shoot him in the head. Or, I am behind the terrorist while he is shooting at the people in front of him and I shoot him in the back of the head. Are you saying that such a thing is an impossibility?

In addition, you have reloading breaks. And they were firing in a crowd of people, you know where you have to shoot, they would have to spot you aiming at them and single you out. So there for sure would be a nonzero chance a good guy with a gun could have make a difference.

If you are going to die anyway, why not at least attempt to fight back? I think one would have at least a 50/50 chance of coming out on top even if only armed with a handgun. Remember, those Americans on the train weren’t even armed yet they subdued the guy with the gun.

Good grief, how much dumber can these politicians possibly get? France has gun control up the ying yang, yet the terrorists were able to get FULLY AUTOMATIC AK’s, hand grenades, and bombs.

    1) I’d rather have a chance to defend myself, even at an extreme tactical disadvantage such as in the concert hall. I’ll take a slim chance, over no chance any day of the week.
    2) I’ve never tried to buy a fun in France, but from a bit of searching, it looks like its pretty hard, didn’t seem to stop it from happening there.
    3) Most mass shootings occur in gun free zones.

Edit: You can spare me the usual, gun nut, ammosexual whatever responses. Been there done that, just making a couple valid points in my opinion. I fully respect your right to disagree.
