PARIS SIEGE AFTERMATH
Over 100 Killed At Music Venue; Dozens Dead In Other Shootings; Suicide Bombings At Stadium

Terrorists struck at the Stade de France (national stadium), Bataclan (a popular music venue with a capacity of well over 1000), and Le Petit Cambodge, a Cambodian restaurant. The two latter sites are in the 10ème and 11ème arrondisements of Paris to the southeast of Gare du Nord station. BBC News has a regularly updated report, as does the New York Times, and Le Monde has a French-language livestream with updated details.

UPDATE , 11:00pmEST – On MSNBC, Canal Plus’ Maria Haim reports that over 200 peole have been injured, including 80 serious injuries (i.e. loss of limb and/or life-threatening injuries).

: “[Paris’] Police Commissioner has stated that the four Bataclan assailants died during the assault by security forces, three by detoning their explosive belts.  The police assault ‘was extremely difficult: the terrorists were locked upstairs and wore explosive belts,’ said prefect Michel  Cadot. ‘Three of them blew themselves up with their explosive belts and a fourth , carrying a belt, was hit by police before exploding as he fell.’ “

UPDATE , 9:35pmEST – ABC News reports that Jesse Hughes, the lead singer of Eagles of Death Metal, the band playing at Bataclan, was able to escape, but the whereabouts of the other band members, including guitarist Josh Homme (who also played in Queens of the Stone Age) is not known at this time.

UPDATE , 8:15pmEST – French BFMTV reports an unknown number of gunmen remain at large.

UPDATE , 8:00pmEST – The death toll stands at around 140, according to the BBC; police sources tell NBC that (at least) 116 people were killed at Bataclan alone; the gunmen were carrying Kalashnikov rifles. This is the worst attack in Paris since World War II.

UPDATE , 7:03pmEST – Reuters confirms Bataclan siege is over, with 2 terrorists (so far) reported dead.

UPDATE , 6:55pmEST – MSNBC and BFM-TV, citing law enforcement sources in Paris, say a total of seven attacks took place in Paris – three suicide attacks outside Stade de France, and four attacks in the 10ème and 11ème arrondisements carried out sequentially by a few heavily armed individuals. A Laura Haim, a Canal Plus reporter, confirmed on air to MSNBC’s Brian Williams that a witness who managed to escape saw the gunmen executing people at Bataclan “one by one” and that four to seven gunmen are thought to have carried out the Bataclan attack.

UPDATE , 6:28pmEST – MSNBC, others passing on reports from social media – again, unconfirmed – of five explosions, automatic gunfire at Bataclan music venue consistent with possible attempt at hostage rescue.

UPDATE , 6:05pmEST – Unconfirmed reports on social media that hostages at the Parisian music venue Bataclan, attacked earlier by a group of gunmen, were or are being executed [a witness who escaped from the venue later confirmed to CNN that hostages were executed].

UPDATE , 5:55pmEST – Multiple sources including Al Aribiya cite police sources report death toll at 60, with death toll expected to rise.

UPDATE , 5:45pmEST – France24 reports gunfire in the Paris Les Halles shopping area; otherwise unconfirmed. Judging from CNN and NBC reports, the death toll is expected to rise.

UPDATE , 5:25pmEST – AP raises death toll to at least 35; an estimated 100 hostages are being held at a concert venue.

UPDATE , 5:15pmEST – Multiple sources report two suicide bombers attacked outside the Paris national stadium, which is on lockdown.

UPDATE , 5:02pmEST – AP reports death toll has risen to at least 26.

Shootings took place in central Paris and in the national stadium.

Shooting has also been heard near the Bataclan arts centre with reports of hostages have been taken there.

Three explosions are also reported outside a bar near the Stade de France, where France were hosting Germany.

Reports say French President Francois Hollande was watching the match and has been moved to safety.
