Medical Refugees Leave Texas For Marijuana Treatments

Those with medical needs who can’t get what they need in Texas are headed for Colorado.

She’s a 5-year-old girl living in a rented house in an eastern subdivision of Colorado Springs in the shadow of Pikes Peak. And she’s in Colorado because her parents fear that if they were living instead back home in Crosby, Texas, the kindergartner might be considered a felon.

Hannah Loew, a child who suffers from a severe form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome, is among dozens who have moved to Colorado to receive higher concentrated doses of marijuana, or cannabis oil, than their home states will allow.

Hannah has suffered multiple seizures daily all her life, and pharmaceutical remedies have never proven completely effective. So, a year and a half ago, Amber and Paul Loew and their three children loaded everything they own into a moving van and moved to Colorado Springs.

“We left everything,” said Amber Loew, so they could legally obtain cannabis oil they hoped would give Hannah a better quality of life.

medicine is medicine…if it reduces suffering and increases function and quality of life…the state demonizes anyone who is ill and needs medicine to function….

I know that mmj has helped me w/ a few medical issues, far better and safer than the Rx’s prescribed to me.

I hope and wish it become decriminalized soon.

yes fully decriminalized….because the health care system just has this huge gap in helping patients with chronic illness reduce physical suffering (or mental) and regain function….if you need to see the school nurse and get a flu shot…you are covered…if you are dying of cancer…you can get some heath care maybe…if there’s a chronic illness to manage….the health care system completely fails…

I lucked out w/my cancer trmt., the original hosp. where I was diagnosed wouldn’t do a thing as I was in limbo for one month w/my ins.

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance stepped in and took care of me….very good care and I am eternally grateful.

I really hope the marijuana worked for her. I hear it is extremely helpful for people with chronic pain. Texas really needs to lighten up and allow the sale of cannabis, and it could do wonders for their economy. I hold out very little hope of this becoming a reality, given Texas’ stance on women suppression.

The oil has also been proven to be extremely effective in reducing cases like this, where there are multiple seizures every day.
Like the one young girl who had hundreds of seizures every day, started with the cannabis oil and went down to only a couple.
