Analysts: Cruz Tax Plan Would Cost Country $16 Trillion

Posted by | November 12, 2015 21:00 | Filed under: Economy News Behaving Badly Politics

Citizens for Tax Justice says Ted Cruz’s plan to shut down the IRS and go to a flat tax would devastate the country financially and is “crazy.”

The Republican presidential candidate who has made a name for himself attacking government spending set out specific tax plans earlier this week that he claimed would cost $1tn.

He also announced plans to shut down the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and replace the taxman with a 10% flat-rate income tax, that he said would reduce personal income taxes by 60%.

Such a plan would cost $12.8tn over a decade, according to CTJ. Cruz would also eliminate corporate income tax, at a 10-year cost of $4.7tn, and repeal the estate tax, at a cost of $300bn, the left-leaning thinktank calculates.

$16 Trillion LMAO! That’s why repubs do not want to release “crazy” ‘plans’ that are scored by economists and CBO!

He is one expensive bag of crap.

Cruz’ methane could power most of his Canadian home world!

So your saying if we melt this BOC down, we can use him for power? Dang it! I take it all back, cruz is good for something.

and I thought Canadians were our friends…sheesh very expensive friends

That’s a feature, not a bug. Republicans want to so profoundly enfeeble and destroy the government that they can then turn around and say, “See? We told you government doesn’t work.” It’s the inherently self-generating self-fulfilling prophecy at the heart of all modern “conservative” “thought.”

    • Suzanne McFly November 12th, 2015 at 21:58

How else can they rob us blind if we have the government regulating the way our economy is run? They remove that regulation and it is a free for all, as long as your one of them.

if the american people woke up they would realize that they – the consumer – control the govt. Stop buying for 48 hours and watch the scum at the top begin to weep – but you don’t have the balls or the gall.

        • Suzanne McFly November 13th, 2015 at 11:52

48 hours would not hurt them, they know we need items and eventually we will be back. I believe change is coming, it is just slow and we have to be patient but keep using our voices.

she’s right 48 hours would not hurt them….I was so happy when gas was really high priced ….it forced people to look at alternatives or at least ask about energy/fuel diversity….now gas is reasonable again…I don’t like it….people aren’t forced to look at clean/sustainable energy….sustained boycotts…that’s the ticket

They claim Obama ran up a what (not sure) 18 trillion over 7 and half years and Cruz can do 16 trillion with one policy, mama that’s a bad man! IMO!

  6. fahvel November 13th, 2015 at 03:31

the plan would work if he defunded the 99% you all spend on military and military associated stuff.

  7. rg9rts November 13th, 2015 at 03:34

And how will he fund his army??

    • Hirightnow November 13th, 2015 at 08:43

He’ll re-instate the draft, and the conscripts will live off of candy thrown by newly liberated children.

      • rg9rts November 13th, 2015 at 10:37

When I went in it was peanuts…$42 a month

        • Hirightnow November 13th, 2015 at 16:40

          $180 for my time, IIRC…

    • burqa November 13th, 2015 at 12:57
