When Iranians cry “death to America,” they’re speaking out against the United States’ policies — not its people, according to a statement reportedly published on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s website Tuesday. The supreme leader of Iran’s comments clarifying the slogan came while talking to students this week before the anniversary of the takeover of Tehran, the Associated…

We sometimes hate the government too

We do refrain from chanting “death to the government”, except for a few extreme right-wing “Second Amendment Solutions” wingnuts.

hey I call lobbyists and certain creeps running for prez (ted cruz) domestic terrorists….I am a true lefty…;)

Funny how, on paper with names removed, a significant faction of right-wingers could be mistaken for Iranians.

There would not be a way for Iranians to like US foreign policy. There’s a lot to be grateful for the Iranian deal.

yeah…it doesn’t bother me….hopefully over the next 10-20 years a diplomatic team can tone down the rhetoric…give it time…btw…my class on us and central/south america it was definitely against american involvement….(monday morning quarterbacking by that time …never the less)…free speech does exist in our universities….even if we fail in reality ;)

“Hey, Ismael, how’s it hanging? Death to America!”

“Ali, you ol’ S.O.B., what’s up? Oh, and Death to America!”

Not nice, I know, but I can understand. When I was jailed in South America decades ago some of the torturers were CIA men. I was not tortured btw, friends of mine were.

It’s our meddling in countries internal politics via spooks or soldiers that has given us such a bad name worldwide. They don’t trust the US? KInda hard to fault them for that since we HAVE given them reason.

That’s very unfortunate for the American people which does not deserve to bear the weight of that.

I totally heard and saw that in my head as a scene from American Dad, lol

I don’t think that’s where I dredged it up from, but I can see it as a bit on that show…

I went to college with Iranians when the uprising against the shah was
in full swing they were diverse just like us there were the hard line
anti shah/America group and the students who were there to learn and
experience life here. The militant students were loners and had nothing
to do with American students but the others were great people and were
open to interacting with us we partied ate good food told stories and
had a lot of fun so I can understand the mantra they use and that they
like us but not our foreign policy.

      What happened?
Did you guys party through the class that taught what commas are?

(To be clear, that’s said with a smile and a giggle… no malice or grammar-nazism.)
      :)

And when I say, “Kiss my ass,” it really just means, “Be kind to the livestock.”

After thirty-five years, their mobs need a new chant, anyway.

  8. Glen November 4th, 2015 at 02:04

Someone should suggest to them that they come up with a more nuanced chant, a message that can’t be misconstrued. Something like “End American Meddling” (or however you might say that in Persian).
