Researchers: Cats Are Neurotic And Want To Kill You

Posted by | October 31, 2015 10:00 | Filed under: Pot Luck

Don’t let that cute furry thing that purrs fool you.

A study carried out between the University of Edinburgh and Bronx Zoo compared our beloved domestic cat with its wilder relatives.

Compared with the snow leopard, the Scottish wildcat and the African lion, researchers found these larger predators shared similar characteristics of aggression and neurotic behaviour to domestic cats…

‘They’re cute and furry and cuddly, but we need to remember when we have cats as pets, we are inviting little predators into our house,’ psychologist Dr. Max Wachtel told 9NEWS…

‘For a lot of people, it is worth it. Cats can be fantastic, sweet companions. Until they turn on you.’

Only their size prevents the cat from being able to unleash its full predatory qualities.

My experience is that barn cats love and appreciate you more then a house cat.

  2. Anomaly 100 October 31st, 2015 at 10:41

My cats have taken over the house.

    • nola878 October 31st, 2015 at 10:58

Is it a cat-tastrophe? Or is it paw-some?

ps…bet our friend bancatyurday will be all like, “told you so!”

      • Anomaly 100 October 31st, 2015 at 11:22

Oh boy, he sure will. My cat Whisperz did not take the move to Virginia very well at first. She liked it here but moving always disturbs cats. So naturally, she went completely nuts on me one day and started attacking which resulted in me being barricaded upstairs in my room after I retreated. I live tweeted it – naturally my friends took the cat’s side and a hashtag began: #TeamFang.

I had to snitch on Whisperz and called the cops. The cop walked in and she was so cute but the minute he left it was on again.

        She’s OK now though

I never owned a house or anything in their house especially when my cat Marvin Gaye was alive with his attitude of 14′ ledges in my kitchen or the 10′ ladder I used to clean his ceiling fans with!

      • Anomaly 100 October 31st, 2015 at 12:46

I wanted to get a dog but I was afraid my cats would throw me out.

When I got my little dog Mona Lisa, my female cat Patches Marie came to the living room to check her out and immediately hissed and spit at her and marched to the back and never came to the living room unless Lisa was at the groomer’s til the day Patches died!! Guess she told me!

          • Anomaly 100 October 31st, 2015 at 16:21

Yikes! Maybe I should stop thinking about getting a doggy:(

            • allison1050 October 31st, 2015 at 18:53

I’m tellin’ ya DON’T DO IT okay? I’m trying to save you. I can’t even put her in a box and send her short ass to someone. They’d open the box and in 30 min. put her ass right back in and write RETURN TO SENDER PRONTO!! That’s the truth of the matter. I was out of my mind when I got her 12 yrs. ago and I’m putting down to menopause. ;-(

My dogs prefer the mess and pout when the house is cleaned.

        • allison1050 October 31st, 2015 at 15:54

I don’t have cats any longer but that damned Lisa has taken up the banner of letting me know that I occupy HER space! She’s such a cow.

          • tracey marie October 31st, 2015 at 17:01

            That was hilarious.

            • allison1050 October 31st, 2015 at 18:49

smiles, it’s like having a 2 y/o in the damned house I’m telling ya! She and I went to obedience school twice!! She only sits when she sees a cookie in my hand and I don’t even have to say the command! grrr!!*!

              • tracey marie October 31st, 2015 at 22:10

To get a cat to sit for any reason is amazing.

                • allison1050 November 1st, 2015 at 04:30

Mine did or didn’t do exactly what they pleased and went anywhere also. As far as Lisa goes, she’s like my cats does whatever and I just have to suck it up.

                  • tracey marie November 1st, 2015 at 12:16

I think cats are beautiful animals, watching them climb, pounce and ignore humans is amazing. As a dog person I still appreciate the beauty of cats.

                    • allison1050 November 1st, 2015 at 14:32

                      Cats are fabulous people!

                    • tracey marie November 1st, 2015 at 14:38

                      They most certainly are.

    • tracey marie October 31st, 2015 at 13:00

      those are big cats

      • Anomaly 100 October 31st, 2015 at 13:17

Almost bigger than me. I’m askeered now.

        • tracey marie October 31st, 2015 at 13:28

I would be as well. The only cat I actually fell in love with was a stray kitten, beautiful calico that was hit by a car. I brought it to my vet, we tried to save her but failed. She is buried in my back yard with my dogs. Callie(cat), fufu and magnolia all have little grave stones surronded by plumbagos, beaty berries and indian carnations. I say hello every morning

          • Anomaly 100 October 31st, 2015 at 14:26

IDK why but I always wanted to go into a tiger’s cage, so I did with the owner of the tigers, of course. It’s a strange feeling. So I did it a few more times.

            • whatthe46 October 31st, 2015 at 14:49

my son would be so jealous. he loves big cats!

              • Anomaly 100 October 31st, 2015 at 15:38

They’re beautiful creatures. Also, I played soccer with a baby snow leopard.

                • whatthe46 October 31st, 2015 at 16:13

Slight possibility that the head researcher was a bit biased in the findings.

Hah, I knew it! Our feline feigns affection, but she is really waiting patiently for an opportunity to pounce and rip our throats out.
Of course, this doesn’t explain the cat’s propensity for barfing on the carpet and peeing on the hardwood floor.

    • jasperjava October 31st, 2015 at 13:59

      Passive-aggressive behavior?

  6. tracey marie October 31st, 2015 at 12:59

    Sounds like dogs as well.

  7. tracey marie October 31st, 2015 at 13:02

One of my dogs loves cats, the wildest one in the pack.

  8. William October 31st, 2015 at 13:08

We recently adopted a shelter dog. I was worried about the cat getting along with her. When the dog walks by the cat, the cat will simply hiss, which I suppose is cat for “F*ck you dog”

  9. bpollen October 31st, 2015 at 15:18

If you have a dog, and a cat, and you keel over dead, the cat will be the first to feast on your remains. I still like cats.

  10. Gina Bousquet October 31st, 2015 at 15:41

Fake! No way! :) They are ignoring the difference between a savage and a domesticated animal just to compare similarities.

    • epazote October 31st, 2015 at 19:28

A feral kitten adopted us nearly 4 years ago. She’s still as wild as the day she showed up
She attacks when unhappy about whatever….were she bigger I’m curtained we’d have been mauled to death by now
      but, we love her anyhow

      • Gina Bousquet October 31st, 2015 at 19:42

Hi Epazote!! Long time no see! :) So you were chosen by a feral cat, a very peculiar kind of love. According to Ethology, cats have a very small “window” of time to get used to humans, if they past this small period(the first 2 months of life, if I remember well) without being petted they will remain feral, no matter how much we love them. I have two feral cats, brothers. They have been with me for thirteen years now, but I could never touch them, if I approach their armchair they get up and leave. Medicating them is a darn problem… I can only talk sweetly to them and love them, from a distance.

        • epazote October 31st, 2015 at 21:34

¡ Gina ! Didn’t realize it was you. So good to see you again !
Are you still living in Brasil ?
Our friend Fran Jaime is around here on various Disqus sites, mostly Raw Story…come join us, please
MiSombra follows me everywhere, hence the name. Doesn’t allow anyone to pick her up, she hates company, sits in the patio pouting until they leave. Cannot get her into any of the various traps in order to get her vet care. Thankfully, she’s sexually ambiguous, so no kittens and she’s quite healthy overall. We think she was 4-5 months of age when she decided to adopt her. Has never jumped up on the countertops, clawed furniture or gone potty in the house…although she hid a mouse in our bed, drug a pigeon larger than herself through the dog door, and has gourmet food preferences.

          • Gina Bousquet October 31st, 2015 at 21:47

I just loved to meet you too! :) Of course I’m living in Brazil! I miss Fran Jaime so much!!!! I usually go to Raw Story too, I’ll find you both there. Bring her here also, this is a lovely site. Can you send her my love? My feral cats when in need of vet care have to be caught in traps and they can really be ferocious in these moments. You know the mouse in your bed and the pigeon are signs of great appreciation and deference to you, right? Kiss MiSombra for me :) :)
