New York Governor To Lead National Gun Control Push

Posted by | October 30, 2015 22:00 | Filed under: Politics

Andrew Cuomo wants to take a leading national role in refining the country’s gun laws.

…Cuomo, a Democrat, has pledged to throw his weight behind the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, one of the country’s most prominent gun control groups, in an as-yet-unannounced effort demanding that the Justice Department more closely scrutinize so-called bad apple gun merchants, according to people familiar with the campaign.

Mr. Cuomo, in an interview about his plans to work with the Brady Campaign, promised that his involvement in national gun politics would continue to deepen. He said he would hit the campaign trail in 2016 to emphasize the issue of gun violence, which he repeatedly called “the big issue” in national politics.

What and pass more laws like New York’s “Safe Act” that isn’t working? We are all against gun violence but the only thing that will work is going after the people who actually do the violence. In the case of drunk driving we don’t go after the car we go after the driver, so why shouldn’t we do the same as regards gun violence?

Gun regulation and fewer guns means less gun violence.
Use the google and you’ll see how out-of-whack the US is with the entire world.
Here’s some stats just from our states….

Funny your little chart misses Chicago in the state of Illinois where extreme gun controls are in place and the gun death rate is through the roof. And how about Detroit? Washington D.C.? It’s not the gun, it’s the person behind the gun.

They don’t have EXTREME gun control, and anyone can go to Indiana and get anything.

          • Robert Smithson October 31st, 2015 at 23:34

How? You have to be an Indiana resident in order to buy a handgun and get it right away. If you are not an Indiana resident, you can buy it but it must be shipped to a Federally licensed firearms dealer in Illinois. Regardless of which way you do it, you must also pass a mandatory background check, and if you are a felon you will not pass the check and will thus not be able to get the firearm.

Long guns can be purchased, but once again there is the background check.

Indiana guns; favorite of Chicago Gangbangers

They are getting them illegally, whether from a straw purchaser or on the street. Gangbanger felons cannot buy guns legally. The law exists to punish those who flout it, not to stop law abiding citizens from exercising their rights. Murder is also illegal, so how do you stop it? Round up and jail everyone so no killings could never occur? The weapon used is immaterial, murder is murder and it is against the law.

The laws are written by the gun lobby to make it easy on the sellers:

“But it’s easy to scam. Like one now infamous guy who simply used a fake Indiana drivers license. David “Big Man” Lewisbey filled a duffle bag with 9 millimeter and 40-caliber handguns. He bought them at various gun shows then sold them to gang bangers in Chicago for big bucks.

Tom Ahern, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says, not only it is easier to buy in Indiana than Illinois, it’s cheaper too. He says the combination has meant a steady flow of guns to Chicago that are involved in crime.

What Lewisbey didn’t know at the time was the feds were watching him. Said Ahern of the ATF, “There’s a large number of individuals at gun show that are selling their personal collections and they’re not holding the buyers to any kind of criminal background check or any paperwork of those transactions.”

That’s the missing link – as Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy put it, the gun show loophole. He says a big reason why more than 3,000 confiscated guns from crimes have come from Indiana. McCarthy says of the loophole, you have a federal firearms licensee, a dealer, who does a quick background check at one table. Right next to him at another table is a private collector who is not, by law, forced to check a buyer’s background.

That makes it awfully tough to trace when a gun is used in a crime. And that’s why this case against Lewisbey and his partners is so important.”

Chicago population: 2,719,000 Chicago shooting deaths, 2014: 390 Chicago gun deaths per 100,000: 14

          20-Alaska gun deaths per 100,000.
          19-Mississippi gun deaths per 100,000
18-Louisiana gun deaths per 100,000 Only the dumb own guns.

            Big thumbs up.

          • Robert Smithson October 31st, 2015 at 23:51

In Alaska in 2014 there were only 41 homicides (statewide). In Louisiana in 2014 there were 407 homicides (statewide). In Mississippi in 2014 there were 161 homicides (statewide).
In Chicago, Illinois in 2014 there were as you noted 390 homicides (one city).

So forget the per 100k, just look at the difference between one city with extreme gun control laws and whole states with permissive laws.

No doubt about it, the gun control nirvana, the City of Chicago is the more dangerous place.

(Oh and by the way, Vermont which has virtually no gun control laws had only 10 homicides).

Comprehension. “20-Alaska gun deaths” per 100,000 Maybe if you know someone with average reading comprehnenion, they could read it to you.

Gun confiscation nationwide! But will Andrew ever give up his armed security? Don’t count on it.

Liberals support ending the life of millions each year in body part factories but go insane for gun control. Liberals support millions of abortions each year but go insane over execution of brutal murderers.
