Alabama, like many states controlled by the Republican Party, recently attempted to defund Planned Parenthood when now-discredited videos were released which purported to show that the women’s healthcare provider had accepted money for providing fetal tissue for research.

But U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson has now dealt the powers-that-be in Alabama a stinging rebuke for their efforts to shut down Planned Parenthood, issuing a 66-page ruling that calls the GOP out for their continued War on Women.  Judge Thompson wrote that Alabama had failed to identify a single legal reason why they could or should cut funding to Planned Parenthood. He also wrote that by attempting to shut down the clinics, Republican lawmakers were violating the “free-choice-of-provider” provision of the Medicaid Act….READ MORE at LiberalAmerica

so happy people from outside US watch our political circus…you should post links about what’s going on in Brazil…we are not all as insular as we seem posting on these political sites …we are very interested and curious about politics and gov around the world…have a great day..;)

Thank you Maggie. I’m very fond of the people from your country, as well as of your Democratic institutions. I had a difficult history with your country, because in mine we had to withstand a long right-wing military dictatorship backed by the US. It ended 3 decades ago and Democracy is very solid now. I was at the resistance back then, so it took me time and actually the American chat boards to make me open my heart to your country, though I always admired your Constitution and system of government. :)

Yes, I understood it. A historical reference to the dictatorships in the 60’s and 70’s in Central and South America, times of great political turmoil for us.

I hope Judge Thompson has some security people around him because with clinics being broken into and ransacked in TX by government officials and the incitement to violence by the GOTP followers, it is only a matter of time before another man who is protecting a women’s constitutional right to choose is assassinated again. This fraudulent committee of GOP House bitches are going to keep the harassment going after the failed Planned Parenthood hearing where they verbally abused Cecile Richards.
