Carson’s Church Teaches Evangelicals Are Going To Hell

Posted by | October 26, 2015 23:00 | Filed under: Politics Religion

Ben Carson’s religion, Seventh Day Adventists, believe that evangelicals belong in Hell. Time for someone to ask Carson if he is in sync with what his faith professes.

Carson is a Seventh-day Adventist who has publicly voiced his commitment to this church and championed its core beliefs, most notably the view that God created the world in six days (literally) and that evolution is bunk (and encouraged by the devil). He has spoken at Seventh-day Adventist events. In a 2013 interview with the church’s official news service, he was asked, “Are there ever any times when you feel it’s best to distinguish yourself from the Seventh-day Adventist Church and what it teaches?” Carson replied, “No, I don’t.”

In this interview, Carson went on to say that he was “proud of the fact that I believe what God has said…that I believe in a literal, six-day creation.”

Carson did not explicitly mention other Seventh-day Adventist tenets. But a central belief of the church is that most other Christian denominations will end up working with the devil. Seventh-day Adventists hold that the Sabbath should be worshipped on Saturday and that religions that observe the Sabbath on Sunday have been corrupted by Satan. The church’s early prophet Ellen White cast much of the blame for this supposed perversion of the Sabbath on the Roman Catholic Church…

Is this what Carson believes? In that 2013 interview with the church’s news service, he appeared to endorse enthusiastically the fundamental teachings of the church. (The Carson campaign did not respond to a request for comment.)

Here’s the political question: Do the evangelical voters who are drawn to Carson because of his articulate and forceful professions of his Christian faith realize that he may well consider them future allies of Satan? And if they did, would this matter to them?

This is a fair point. Adventist’s have never officially asserted an anti-scientific position (6-day Creation and that it is a recent event of a few thousand years ago) until the summer of 2015.

Since 2010 the Church has been governed by a fundamentalist President who draws his support largely from Latin America and Africa, and this is one of a number of points in which he has pushed the Church right. Very few Adventist scientist I am acquainted with are supportive of this recent action. A good many theologians also disagree with this view as well.

Adventism is a microcosm of the larger society, where a lot of polarization is currently taking place. Don’t be surprised if there is a schism in the future of Adentism.

      • robert October 27th, 2015 at 22:31

to even suggest the devil ( Lucifer ) is a creationist ? tells me ben never knew anything about religion. That goes double for Adventist and theologians who should know better

I do not support Carson’s candidacy, but I am an Adventist. As with all religions there exist a spectrum within the denomination. So the exposé you offer on Adventism could only represent a more conservative strain. It certainly does not reflect my thinking, or that of those I am personally familiar with.

Thank you for providing that information. It is not a religion I am familiar with, so without someone saying otherwise I would assume the whole religion was as described in the article.

Most Adventists I know are pacifist vegetarians who work in some type of field servicing others (doctors, nurses, etc..). Good people. This article reminds me of the folks who say Muslims want to kill/convert all non Muslims.

I’ll just let actual believers tell me what they believe rather than writers with agendas.

      • 1bestdog October 27th, 2015 at 19:42

uh they can believe both….read their doctrine

        • Um Cara October 28th, 2015 at 13:04

Yea, you sound like the folks who point to something in the Koran about killing infidels & then extrapolate that to ‘Muslims want to kill infidels’. As said, I’ll stick to letting folks explain their supernatural belief system to me rather than folks with different/no supernatural belief system explaining it on behalf of others.

Why is it that ALL Preacher Men keep telling us that we are going to Hell if we don’t do as THEY tell us and to give money to them to save our souls, Then on the day of our funeral, they always say we went to Heaven and that we are in a better place ? Nobody that has ever died goes to Hell after they are dead. They are always at Peace and in Heaven.

    • Bunya October 27th, 2015 at 15:42

That’s how religion stays in business. Think about it; religion is nothing but giant, tax exempt corporations. They have no production costs and make their money by threatening the feeble-minded with eternal damnation. Hell, in the Catholic church, women who have had an abortion or work at PP are automatically excommunicated – but are still expected to tithe the church weekly.

The conservative evangelicals (and there are some who aren’t conservative it should be remembered) ARE going to go to hell and deserve to go there along with all others in the “Christian religious right.” Good thing I am not in control or I’d send them there…double quick with Robertson and Huckabee and Santorum first on line.
