Maine Gov Says Public Financing Is ‘Like Giving My Wife My Checkbook’

Posted by | October 22, 2015 22:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Not that the Republican Party has a skewed view of women or anything.

Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) lashed out at an initiative strengthening Maine’s system of public financing campaigns, the Maine Beacon reports.

Said LePage: “That’s like giving my wife my checkbook. I’m telling you, it’s giving your wife your checkbook.”

LePage is an intellectual wasteland, like in lack of intellect or even common sense.

well the fact that none of them are coming out denouncing all the stupidity and ignorance and b.s., i’d say it’s fair to come to that conclusion.

An uninformed electorate is disappointing , but an uniformed government is courting disaster

My wife has her own checkbook, her own accounts, her own credit cards. The very idea that in this day and age a spouse would be considered unworthy or untrusted with money says a lot about this troglodyte.

    • John_St_John October 23rd, 2015 at 03:20

And shows the past he would love to live in. Wonder if nightly beatings of his wife are carried out to keep her subservient to him.

He publically humiliated his wife with his idiotic statement

I appreciate you letting us know about the spam but flagging one is all you need to do. regardless of how many you flag or whatever comments you make that sit in pending – if no one is looking at the moderation screen, it only complicates the issue and creates more work for us.

      • whatthe46 October 23rd, 2015 at 10:11

        thanks for the heads up.

      • rg9rts October 23rd, 2015 at 10:32

OK but it is annoying as hell when I get 4 or five of these on notifications ,,,if you had a way of telling us that it was resolved it would be nice

        • Carla Akins October 23rd, 2015 at 11:23

As soon as I blacklist the spammer, I delete all of their “comments”. I’d be happy to give you heads up once but you’d have to comment on one of them – otherwise I don’t know who flagged the spam. It’s much easier for me to have to only respond to your one comment than to have have to manually scan each each story on both sites. I have noticed that I sometimes have to refresh the browser page more than once before they actually disappear on the story I am reviewing – but only when I’m using Chrome. It doesn’t appear to happen when I’m at work and using Firefox.

          • rg9rts October 23rd, 2015 at 11:35

They are both trash….lets start our own with the difference that it works…I ditched chrome a long time ago…got tired of aw snap.. every 30 seconds.. I don’t want much…just a browser that goes on..responds and doesn’t do its own thing on tabs I’ve opened…like drop them….PSffffty

I own two chromebooks at home, so….but at work it’s a PC. I can only install the big three to the work computer.

second day in a row where a fat gluttonous slob hasbeen prominent on this site – these things display the worst, the very worst of human kind – absorbers non stop.

  7. Warman1138 October 23rd, 2015 at 05:20

Nothing like keeping the poor, poor. By denying them the ability to build assets, you consign them to an eternal cycle of poverty.

  8. bpollen October 23rd, 2015 at 05:26

“That’s like giving my wife my checkbook.”

I agree. Both are good ideas.

The reason that he does not want it is because his bribery and corruption side business would dry up. They are using ‘campaign’ donations to launder money now, they would still find a way but it would be more difficult without Citizens United.

  13. Mainah October 23rd, 2015 at 11:52

I watched this yesterday … don’t get me started. Waste of space. A lot of space.

  14. Jodie October 23rd, 2015 at 13:55

Ugh. Sexist pig. I love how men like him probably prefer the “little wife” to stay at home cooking his meals and keeping “his” home immaculate, yet it’s “his” money. My sister is a SAHM, and I’d dare her husband to refer to it as “his” money to my sister. I’m so glad her husband isn’t like that, though.

  15. Um Cara October 23rd, 2015 at 14:05

First inclination is to laugh (AT him, not WITH him, you understand). But when you consider that this attitude was very common until quite recently, and further consider that his wife still experiences this level of disrespect… I just hope he does not have any children.

Socially-regressive neanderthals such as LePage wear the “chauvinist pig” moniker as a badge of honor.
