Bernie Would Raise Taxes On Everyone, But…

Bernie Sanders told George Stephanopoulos that everyone would see payroll taxes increase if he were president.

“[The payroll tax] would hit everyone –- yeah, it would. But it would mean we would join the rest of the industrialized world and make sure that when a mom has a baby she can in fact stay home with that baby for three months, rather than going back to work at the end of one week,” Sanders said.

“We are the … only major country on earth that doesn’t guarantee paid family and medical leave,” he added.

Sanders said his tax policies would primarily aim to close tax loopholes that let the rich evade taxation, raising the estate tax, and taxing Wall Street speculation, the latter of which would fund his proposal for tuition-free public college and university education.

“We’ve got to address the fact that the middle class in this country is disappearing, they need help,” Sanders said. “We have massive wealth and income inequality — the wealthy are going to have to pay more in taxes.”

          Reform is anathema to Washington

He has all the right ideas and solutions. He stays on topic and promotes the issues. He is absolutely correct on virtually everything he says. But, the country has far to many right wingers in it who are scared to death of the term ‘socialist’. Raise taxes, gay rights, gun control, new and improved social programs?? The right wing propaganda machine would be relentless in demonizing him at every turn. The right would turn out in droves to vote against him, while many on the left would not vote at all because of the socialist label. Realistically, he can not win a general election until the majority is center left. The left has to do to the conservatives, what they and Reagan did to liberalism, they demonized it and made it a dirty word, and in so doing they drove many to become so called Reagan democrats, essentially creating a center right majority and eventually a far right lunatic fringe. Bernie is ready for America, but America isn’t ready for him, unfortunately. jmo

      I have to disagree.
I think there are plenty who would vote for him and the margin of Democrats who wouldn’t vote for him is probably smaller than you imagine.

Not to mention, there are already Republicans for Bernie groups.
I know there’s one on Facebook that had 12,000 members when I heard of it a few days ago.

Under Bernie you may pay more taxes but you won’t have insurance payments, you won’t have banks ripping you off etc.

That’s understandable but unfortunately, the braindamaged HRC stalwarts will look at that and say “You see, he’s Walter Mondale 1984. He’s unwinnable. Vote Hillary or else !”. To the idiot DINOs who are ready to run like cowards on taxes, didn’t your mom and dad teach you that without payroll taxes there is no social security?
