Gowdy Won’t Say Why He Was A No-Show At Huma Questioning

Posted by | October 17, 2015 07:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Only two Republicans showed up to question Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin at a rare Benghazi hearing.

Committee member Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) earlier in the day described the meeting as “very productive,” without going into additional detail.

Abedin was a “senior official at the State Department at all of the relevant times [and] was privy to and had access to information that pertained to all of the things surrounding the events in Benghazi,” Pompeo added.
Abedin was asked about Clinton’s controversial use of a private email server, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) told reporters, but only to the extent that the emails pertained to the situation in Benghazi.

Only three lawmakers attended the briefing: Pompeo, Westmoreland and top Democrat Elijah Cummings (Md.).

Committee chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) was notably absent from the proceedings. His office declined to detail why he was not present for the questioning, though it claimed that he had been in contact with staffers ahead of time and trusted them to “ask substantive, investigatory questions.”

If he can trust the other committee members to “ask substantive, investigatory questions” why is there a chairman at all?

    • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 07:49

      Wow.

Had your account a month huh? You do realize that you have more flags than comments, I hope you’re being paid accordingly. Don’t come back here.

Hillary won’t answer who approved her rogue server. Won’t answer who wiped the private server. Won’t answer when it was wiped or who made the decision to wipe it. Won’t answer why she chose two mom and pop server companies with no expertsise in State Department emails to house her server.

    • Anomaly 100 October 17th, 2015 at 08:01

Yeah, that could be because she won’t be questioned until the 22nd. Try to keep up, Sport.

      • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 08:23

She’s rebuffed all those particular questions from reporters. If she’s not involved ina criminal investigation and not a target of the FBI, why is she afraid to answer those questions.?

Here is a fun “fact” for ya.

George W. Bush Would Not Have Been President without the Supreme Court Stepping In

                  • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 09:39

That’s not a fact. It’s conjecture based on one possible scenario of how the recount may have been conducted. The odds of that ever happening undisputed are about 1 in infinity.

                    • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 11:05

That’s the FBI, halfer. They’re the ones investigating Hillary, and her server, and her email. Likely for gross negligence under the Espionage Act. We’d never have known about it if not for the Select Committee.

Maybe you’d prefer that threat to national security and State Department secrets to have never come to light, but as an American, I’m glad we were able to find out about it in hopes that we can make sure no high level official ever tries that monkey business again. Thank goodness for legislative oversight, the very thing she was trying to avoid.

The supreme court stepped in = fact.

Dubya ruined this country for the next 5 generations = fact.

                    • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 10:14

First one is true. They had to. Elections have consequences.

The second one is false. Granny-loving pervert Uncle Albert would’ve been far worse.

No dubya = no Iraq = no spending trillions of dollars and getting back nothing but more enemies = fact.

You don’t know what the Granny perv would’ve done. He wouldn’t have prevented 9/11, and his fellow Dems were pushing very hard for regime change in Iraq. Not to mention his former boss’ administration had regime there as a goal. You still wanting to litigate settled history?

Pushing for regime change is way different that wholesale invasion and attack. And you have no idea what Al would have done about the warnings about Al Qaeda. Upgrading the security at airports and in the airliners would have been an easy step if only little Georgie Bush would have bothered to take it.

                    • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 18:39

Yeah, imagine the first time Grandma got felt up by an airport security guy because Bush tried to tighten things up. Liberals would’ve gone nuts. Not to mention putting the airlines into more duress, pushing us into more of a recession. Look how difficult the process has been after 9/11. It’s a stupid canard liberals make that it would’ve been easy to prevent.

Five of the top candidates are all polling ahead of the current front-runner for the Democratic party in key swing states and nationally. A couple by close to double-digits. And this is before any results of either the Select Committee and FBI investigations have released any results. She gets indicted, you can put up pics of Bernie, no chance, and three other people polling at around 0.01%.

She never told the POTUS. Received the specific name of a CIA agent operating in Libya on her very unsecure server and never informed her superior about it, but passed it along using her unsecure server. Then she hired two mom and pop server companies to house her server, neither of them having the capacity or the security apparatus in place to handle classified email, nor the proper security clearances.

      • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 09:43

She can’t afford to place herself in legal jeopardy.

The Benghazi Committee right now is the least of her worries. Her biggest worries are the FBI, further FOIA requests, and Catherine Herridge’s untiring reporting.

        • rg9rts October 17th, 2015 at 09:49

Thats why the FBI dropped its investigation

        • Foundryman October 17th, 2015 at 10:13

Hillary isn’t the one who’s worried, the republicans are, this ridiculous waste of tax payer money witch hunt proves it.

          • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 11:15

FBI reports to the Dem president who declared categorically that this is a legitimate issue. His opinion counts more than yours does.

Are you concerned about what the FBI is spending to protect our national security? How about the Inspector Generals? The State Department, who just recently hired 50 professionals to sort through all the emails Hillary is just now turning over? How about the twelve or so district court judges hearing FOIA cases that are being delayed and hammered out due to Hillary’s admitted mistake? Concerned about those wasted of taxpayer’s money?

Or would you have preferred that Hillary just got away with it all? Forget that the FBI has that responsibility to protect our national secrets.

            Which is it, Foundryman?

            • Foundryman October 17th, 2015 at 11:34

No, no i’m not concerned about that at all. If there is a legitimate problem, it’s up to those agencies to find it, so far, nothing BTW. That proves what the republicans and their little witch hunt committees are doing is a waste of time and money.

        • halfwayin October 17th, 2015 at 10:25

The FBI is wasting money? Really, now? Who do they report to? I’m pretty sure he just said it was a legitimate issue. Yep, yes he did, a legitimate issue that Hillary needs to answer questions about and the American people can decide if they find them acceptable or not.

If the FBI isn’t conducting an investigation, what are they doing? Why did POTUS call it a “legitimate issue” that Hillary needs to answer questions about and let the public decide if she’s telling the truth? What did that even mean if they’re not conducting an investigation, genius?

And you have kids? Wow. I feel sorry for them. Must be tough having to grow up around such a flawed loser. I hope you don’t keep them locked up in your mother’s basement with you. Let them out once in a while so they can try to be normal. Something you have no chance of.

          • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 10:59

I was going to open them up to you but now that I see your flailings, I’d rather just have you guessing, saying the same rote things you say to anyone who’d disagree with you about Hillary. See’s a lousy candidate, a congenital liar, a phony, and Wall Street crony who will do and say anything for power given that she can’t run on her accomplishment, her failed diplomacy as SoS, or her foreign policy blunders. You likely hate her, and can’t stand the fact you have no other reasonable alternatives and DWS is rigging the game for her easy ascension to the nomination, but you can’t do anything about it, except defend her now. Hillary, her campaign, and DWS all know that. They tell you to shut up, accept it, and fork over money to her, like the good little mindless drones they expect you to be. And what do you say? “Yeah, I like Bernie and will support him, but if I have to, I’ll hold my nose and vote Hillary”. And you think you’re taking a bold stand with that one. Only Hillary knows that, and she plans and campaigns around you, knowing you’re a sap she doesn’t have to worry about.

You won The most Delusional and ignorant comments of the year award!
FBI Shuts Down Hillary Investigation http://www.alan.com/2015/09/22/fbi-shuts-down-gop-hillary-email-investigation-effort/ Old news was State Dept: Clinton’s Private Email Didn’t Violate Policy Updated August 26th.
Yes Hillary Clinton was exonerated by the State Dept, after the DOJ FBI found no criminal wrongdoing and ‘ “No Hillary Clinton criminal referral” ‘or criminal investigation’ July, 2015. http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/justice-department-probe-hillary-clinton-email-use

https://twitter.com/brianefallon/status/634781523187761152 Oops, that’s one media narrative flushed right down the toilet. State Department official John Kirby told CNN that her use of a private email address and server was not against policy in effect at the time she was Secretary of State.

That is, of course, what many of us have been saying all along — that this whole email thing is a big nothingburger.

      • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 12:24

That has nothing to do with using a private server exclusively and Kirby said nothing about classified emails being housed on her private server, nor anything to do with handing over that server to two mom and pop server companies that didn’t possess the apparatus necessary to handle State Department email nor the security clearnances for the folks who had access to her classified emails.

Hey, how do you copy and paste a Twitter message on here?

        • Obewon October 17th, 2015 at 12:31

You were preemptively debunked years ago. You are a pathological liar. Don’t post anything else without LINKING to your source. Otherwise Buh-bye! Thx.

          • Dennis October 17th, 2015 at 12:41

Source: FBI probe of Clinton email focused on ‘gross negligence’ provision

There’s a reason why State didn’t want anyone using a private server for their government email. They didn’t want classified information getting on it when they had no control over its security.

Watch the video of Thomas Drake, prosecuted for the same thing Hillary did under the same provision under the Espionage Act, only for one email missing, not classified and not “marked classified”. Hillary is likely to lose her security clearance. Good luck being president without one.

              Um, no.
When you open with dissimulation, it destroys the credibility people ordinarily give to one another when they meet and begin to engage. Smart alecks with nothing to say, no thoughtfulness, no creativity, but just the same uninteresting blather are relegated to the lesser ranks among others who may be safely ignored.
It is possible for you to turn it around and regain respect you threw away, but its going to take some work.

HELPFUL HINT: People prefer others to be straightforward with them and are suspicious of those who cover everything with a blanket of falsehoods and/or deception (the two sail the same waters).

DAMN! If they would only listen to me around here when I say we need a jayvee board! This Dennis fella would be a prime candidate. In the jayvee board I imagine, perpetual adolescents would get help from grownups who, step by step, would teach him social skills like putting his napkin in his lap rather than tucking the tablecloth into the top of his shirt or eating mashed potatoes with his bare hands.
Then we move on to other subjects like basic values and manners so he would know how to behave around grownups…..

  4. labman57 October 17th, 2015 at 08:50

What — a Republican member of Congress who doesn’t regard himself to be answerable to the people regarding his duties, responsibilities, and decisions as a public servant?
    Unprecedented!

  5. Suzanne McFly October 17th, 2015 at 09:45

Maybe he was hungover from their wine club meeting the night before.

  7. Foundryman October 17th, 2015 at 10:08

He didn’t show because he didn’t want to give his opponents video sound bites of him being a complete right wing nut job. They have nothing, and they know it.

  8. Observer October 17th, 2015 at 10:37

He’s only been present for 9 of the over 50 witch hunt McCarthyesque hearings

    • DogsRgoodpeople October 17th, 2015 at 13:12

Exactly. Avoiding high ranking military personnel that would likely call BS on his fake concern over the dead.

I think he needs a nickname.
    “TV” comes to mind.
Wha y’all think, “Representative “TV” Trey Gowdy (R.-S.C.)….?

  12. StoneyCurtisll October 17th, 2015 at 15:33

    Huma Abedin

    Very intelligent..
    And very beautiful.

    • bpollen October 17th, 2015 at 18:39

A fine woman with horrible taste in men.
Her husband is a pompous self-involved dick with great taste in women.

      Life ain’t fair.

  13. bpollen October 17th, 2015 at 18:44

If I had to guess, I would say he was hanging out with David Vitter and a big box of Depends.

  14. maggie October 17th, 2015 at 21:53

Gowdy the witch hunter in chief doing Boehner’s work for him plays hooky…while still charging taxpayers for marathon soap opera over a scandal that doesn’t exist

    • burqa October 18th, 2015 at 00:25

You remind me of a line Superstar Bill Clinton got off. Not sure, but it seems to me he was at a black church and he got up and said, “The Republicans spent $40 million to prove I’m a sinner. I could have told you that for free.”

      A standing ovation followed.

      • maggie October 18th, 2015 at 00:29

that’s hilarious….seriously how much taxpayer money has been spent on these non-scandals and shutting down the gov….millions….and while the GOP does that they get nothing done in congress…..no wonder Obama has had to do everything himself.

  15. StoneyCurtisll October 17th, 2015 at 22:52

    Like I said..
She is married to a Cad..(A man whose behavior is unprincipled or dishonorable)..:)

    • burqa October 17th, 2015 at 23:10

Ahhhh, but nature has a way of balancing things out so it is very likely she’ll lose the husband and find a man who [burqa breathes across his fingernails and shines them on a lapel] can take care of her the way she deserves.
      Huma needs me.
      I can tell.

      • maggie October 18th, 2015 at 00:30

that’s hilarious…and you are right she could do so much better…

      • jasperjava October 18th, 2015 at 12:16

She’s mine. I saw her first.

    • bpollen October 18th, 2015 at 00:42

I understood the word, and didn’t disagree with it.
I just went for terminology that was slightly less archaic and a little more earthy!

(For some reason, I hear the word “cad” in Dudley Do-Right’s voice…)
