ICYMI: Thursday Was ‘Bring Your Bible To School Day’

Posted by | October 10, 2015 16:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Religion

It’s too late now if you wanted to wave your religion in everyone’s face at school. Bring Your Bible To School Day was Thursday.

The thing is being promoted by Focus on the Family and rightwing Christianist lawyer group the Alliance Defending Freedom, which is sort of a Bizarro-world ACLU what likes to sue to keep crosses on public land and keep homosexxicans from getting married…

Smarmy and annoying, but perfectly legal! The FAQ even suggests that if kids are told they can’t read their Bibles or talk God stuff, they should be polite like Jebus and also call the ADF’s 800 number so a Christian lawyer can tell the school what’s what.

‘Looky. Mah bable proves the (4.5 bn year old) Earth & (13.8 bn year old) universe were created Sunday October 23, 4004 B.C.’-ArchBishop Ussher in 1650. “This date of 4004 B.C. is then used for 200 years in English editions of the Bible. Some biblical literalists of the 20th century will use similar methods to assert that life first appeared on Earth less than 10,000 years ago.” http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/religion/revolution/low_bandwidth.html

He said “I think you want to take a picture of those guys over there.”

          • Larry Schmitt October 10th, 2015 at 18:10

Brilliant. But I think he said “shoot.”

Sorry for the misquote… I’ll correct it.

              • Larry Schmitt October 10th, 2015 at 19:12

Sorry, I just couldn’t resist the pun on the word shoot.

As soon as I saw you post, I thought “that makes it SO much better a line!”

Not ALL ancients could do math, apparently.

Some were awfully damn good at it: The Bulgarian calendar (maybe from as far back as 5500 BC) is the most accurate in the world.

      That deserves a fist bump~!

even at 6500 years, my prophecy has been 24 million 289 thousand 131 times spot on.

If all they did was bring their bibles, that’s not a problem. But they try to push their narrow-minded religion on people.

    Superstitious hokus-pokus becomes so tedious.

That’s the basis of the “War on Christians” and the annual “War on Christmas.” O’Reilly and Fox Not News should be revving up any day now.

What they don’t realize is that, contained within the cover to my bible, I have Burroughs’ “Naked Lunch.” Maybe it’s impious, but much more entertaining.

And all the while we have Columbus Days as a federal holiday…
    Torture, mutilation, genocide, slave trade…
Gosh, what a great guy Cris Colombo was…(not)

    • Dwendt44 October 11th, 2015 at 00:40

And we all know that Columbus was not the first European to set foot in the Western Hemisphere.
