Ronald Reagan Called For More Gun Control In 1991

Candidates playing to the far right need to stop pretending they’re Ronald Reagan once and for all.

In 1991, Republican hero Ronald Reagan wrote a New York Times op-edmaking the case for the Brady bill, which was named after Reagan’s press secretary, who was shot during an assassination attempt. The law established federal background checks for firearm purchases and created a five-day waiting period to give law enforcement time to run these checks. (The waiting period was eventually replaced by an instant background check system, which can be extended to three days if the results of the check aren’t immediately clear.)

Reagan, who was himself a shooting victim during his time in office, wrote:

It was on that day 10 years ago that a deranged young man standing among reporters and photographers shot a policeman, a Secret Service agent, my press secretary and me on a Washington sidewalk. …

This nightmare might never have happened if legislation that is before Congress now — the Brady bill — had been law back in 1981.

Sad when today’s GOP is far to the right of even Saint Reagan.

Many of the things ” GOD REAGAN ” said would be considered Radical Left today.

Including those 11 tax increases one of which is the biggest tax increase in history.

Tax cuts for publicity and the tax increases blamed on the Democrats followed by a reduced deficit. The perfect Republican formula.

Of course, Reagan called then ‘revenue enhancements’ since he didn’t believe in tax increases.

The one I love are Republican FEES. They don’t like tax increases but they love adding a new FEE, or increasing a FEE, or charging a FEE . They love taking in more money but it is never taxes.

Nancy checked with her Astrologer and she gave him a script to read. It all worked out well.

“But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.”~Ronald Reagan, at his birthday celebration in 1989.

Some where around here, I have a whole long list of Definite Left Policies that Reagan Publicly supported.

Wonder what the “comment section” on the right will be IF they ran this article on those “nice” Republicans sites!

Most of the RWNJs who worship St. Ronnie have no idea what his records as gov. and pres. actually were. He would be considered a RINO today.

It’s almost tragic that the right considers the Reagan years the “golden age” of conservatism. The average right winger would consider feudal Europe an absolute Nirvana.
