Christian Bakers Defying Court Order To Pay Fine To Gay Couple

Posted by | October 1, 2015 10:30 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Aaron and Melissa Klein, pictured here being applauded by the Family Research Council, were fined for revealing personal information online about the lesbian couple they refused to serve.

The Kleins were ordered to pay the $135,000 not because of the cake, but due to the emotional and physical suffering experienced by Rachel and Laurel.

Aaron reportedly posted a copy of Laurel’s complaint (to the Oregon Department of Justice) on his Facebook page, which included the lesbian couple’s names, address and phone number. Rachel and Laurel got hundreds of threatening messages, noted Willamette Week in July. It became so bad that Rachel and Laurel moved to Washington State.

Aaron claimed that he was unaware that Rachel and Laurel’s personal information was on the complaint that he made public on Facebook, but the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries didn’t buy that argument and issued the fine…

The Kleins’ attorney asked the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries twice to delay the payment requirement while the Kleins’ case works its way through the Oregon Court of Appeals, but those requests have been refused because the Kleins received nearly $500,000 in donations when their story of supposed Christian persecution went public, notes Willamette Week.

Now they can go to prison. The stupidity sometimes …

    • whatthe46 October 1st, 2015 at 10:44

i hope that they do. couldn’t be content with just be asswipes, they had to be super ignorant asswipes. they received 500k from a lot of hateful people, what did they think would happen when so same people became privy of their private information? liars to boot.

I wonder if those donations are counted as income, and if they paid taxes on it. If it’s not income, what category would it be in? Maybe they’ll go the Al Capone route.

        • whatthe46 October 1st, 2015 at 11:00

they do pay taxes on it. so, i would imagine after taxes they got just over 300k. i hope they had big plans for it. and now they have to give a good chunk of it to people they don’t care for cause derp. and the people who gifted it, thanks for your donations to this couple you hated.

            love the DIVINE justice.

        • mea_mark October 1st, 2015 at 11:55

It is taxed at the highest rate.

          • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 12:01

But is the tax withheld before they get the money? If not, they could be delinquent.

            • mea_mark October 1st, 2015 at 12:29

That’s a good question. You would think that fund raising sites would be required to withhold for taxes, but that may not be the case.

              • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 12:48

But sometimes those sites are used to raise funds for legitimate charitable causes. But here’s what the Gofundme site says: While this is by no means a guarantee, most donations on GoFundMe are simply considered to be ‘personal gifts’ which are not taxed as income in the US.
I hope that’s not the case here. I’d hate to see these people get half a mil tax free.

What’s the matter with people who send death threats over an issue like this? (any issue really, but this kind of thing?) How does what they did deserve death? What is going on inside the nasty heads of these people? I can’t think of anything that would drive me to send anyone a death threat.

    Maybe a little jail time…a $1 a day??

  4. William October 1st, 2015 at 11:07

They are just standing up for their religious convictions. Because Jesus talked about gay marriage zero times.

    • rg9rts October 1st, 2015 at 11:08

No one told them the pope is back in Rome??

      • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 11:09

When did the Pope become the best friend of fundamentals? Before his trip, he would have been considered the anti-Christ. Now he’s their BFF.

He’s going to steal the gopee base

They can get Jeb! to translate it for them.

        • Dwendt44 October 1st, 2015 at 11:27

That will last only as long as he doesn’t say something major that they disagree with.

          • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 11:29

And the same would apply if Jesus himself appeared. After all the selfies, they would start picking apart his sermons, just as they did with the Pope. I wonder if Alex Jones (I can barely stand to even type his name) would call him a slimbag, as he did with the Pope.

the great white hope. Hair od wool and skin of bronze and he is white.

      • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 11:13

He and Santa. They’re white because they just are. Meagyn Kelly said so.

        • tracey marie October 1st, 2015 at 11:15

Santa is german so I can understand that fairytale, but a palistinian?

          • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 11:16

Actually the St. Nicholas that Santa was based on was Turkish. So that’s borderline Asian/European, and he wouldn’t have looked white, any more than Jesus did.

            • tracey marie October 1st, 2015 at 11:22

Live and learn, I did not realize that fact

              • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 11:26

Just more facts that the people on Fox can’t be bothered with.

      • granpa.usthai October 1st, 2015 at 23:38

this is the fake Italian Jesus, but most people buy it ’cause they don’t want no Jew for a Savior. Especially from a country that allows same gender marriage.

      • William October 2nd, 2015 at 09:43

        GOP jesus

    • mcalleyboy October 2nd, 2015 at 02:03

Wonder why the Left picks on the right? Either you guys are cheap-skates or you don’t have any money..Lol. Wouldn’t this be a left hero, oh that’s right many don’t believe in ferry tails.

The judge should immediately freeze their bank accounts until a check for the full amount clears the bank. Jail for contempt works for me as well.

    • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 11:30

What party is the judge, I wonder?

      • whatthe46 October 1st, 2015 at 11:34

i don’t know, but, it looks like he’s not playing their game.

    • granpa.usthai October 1st, 2015 at 23:35

makes LEGAL sense to me. They could also force the business to cease operations until a resolution is agreed upon.

      side note:
all this in your face – F the laws we don’t like will bode extremely badly for this government should the konservative kristians ever gain full power and control as they did under GW.

I’d rather keep attention on Kim Davis. That side of this is uglier and, frankly, more helpful to the cause than this aspect here. Sorry if my view offends, but, this seems murkier. It may garner more sympathy from folks that are moderate on these matters.

    • jasperjava October 1st, 2015 at 12:10

I have no time for any so-called “moderates” who condone bullying and discrimination. They are not “moderates”, but nasty homophobic bigots.

      • Larry Schmitt October 1st, 2015 at 12:50

Bigots who made money off their bigotry.

I guess his fingers have minds of their own.
