Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush suggested that the wealthiest top 1 percent of Americans would receive more benefits from this tax plan than the middle class because “that’s just the way it is.” During a Sunday interview on Fox News, host Chris Wallace pointed out that Bush’s assertion that cutting taxes would generate more revenue for…

The fact that the rich are always pointing out, that they pay 40% of the taxes, really has nothing to do with anything. The 1% pay more of the taxes because they have more of the money. Even if their tax rate was twice what it is now, they would still have millions left. They can’t spend what they have, even after taxes. But the middle and lower classes, even with much lower tax rates than the very rich, have much, much less money left. That’s why civilized countries tax the very rich at a much higher rate.

They might pay 40% of the taxes but they have 73% of the wealth…sounds like they need to start paying their fair share.

John Cleese just made the observation that you have to be at least somewhat intelligent to realize just how stupid you are, and if you’re not smart enough to realize how stupid you are, then you really are that stupid! Jeb, and the republican leaders and followers he represents, are clearly a case in point!

There is simply no data to support the supposition that providing disproportionately huge tax cuts for corporations and the top 2% of the wealthiest people results in job creation or other signficant economic growth.

    Enter the JB “think” tank:
since the ‘GW Bush era’ mega-tax breaks for the wealthy clearly had no stimulating effect on job growth, he has concluded that we need to reinstate and expand said tax cuts in order to stimulate job growth.

In reality, the only result that Bush and his Republican cohort truly expect is the one that does occur — the rich get richer at the expense of everyone else.

Suggestions that tax cuts for corporations and ultra-wealthy citizens will stimulate job growth is simply their cover, their disingenuous talking point designed to try to sell their Reaganomic bill of goods to the public.

Many of America’s wealthiest citizens made a major investment in the Republican Party during the 2010 and 2014 mid-term elections, and hundreds of millions of additional dollars were invested in Republican candidates in the 2012 presidential and congressional campaigns. And now these same uber-millionaires and billionaires have several current GOP candidates in their greedy, power-hungry little pockets.
In short, the Republican Party has been simply carrying out the job for which they have been duly paid.

Most fiscal conservatives are primarily interested in two outcomes:
    1) Increasing the income divide between the wealthiest Americans and the rest of society
    2) Increasing profit margins for corporations via lowered taxes and minimized environmental and workplace regulations.

Reducing unemployment and benefiting the middle class are secondary issues — if said corporations opt to use their increased profits to hire additional employees and/or to increase wages, that’s their prerogative.

Alas, historical evidence overwhelming demonstrates that increased corporate profits do not translate into increased hiring — increased demand for goods and services does.
And, of course, increased demand requires increased purchasing power by that subset of society which does the majority of the purchasing, i.e., the middle class.

Actually, there was a Congressional Research Service (CRS) that concluded the Butsh tax cuts added about 0.2% in GDP growth while adding many billions to the deficit. The repugnant congress made the CRS retract the report a day after ir was released. Seems that the repugs couldn’t stand the light of day.

35 years of failed supply side economics. Jeb Bush is so spoiled and insulated from reality, he believes his handlers who keep telling him this is his ticket to the white house. Heaven help us all if that ever happens……

    • cwazycajun October 4th, 2015 at 15:33

its gonna take a HELL of a lot more than some heaven to help us if that impossibility did happen
