Right-Wing Wants McCarthy

Posted by | September 25, 2015 14:00 | Filed under: Politics

House Republicans appear to be rallying behind Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to replace John Boehner as Speaker. This has been in the works prior to Friday, even as John Boehner’s office denied he was about to resign.

Aides to Boehner and McCarthy initially declined to comment for this story. But Boehner last week brushed off concerns that he doesn’t have control of his 246-member conference, insisting to reporters he has “widespread support amongst my members.”

After this story was published Tuesday, Boehner spokeswoman Emily Schillinger made clear the Speaker “is not going anywhere.”

“Navigating tough challenges isn’t new to this leadership team,” she said in an email. “The Speaker is focused on the American people’s priorities and how we can accomplish them.”

…Talk of a possible coup against Boehner has consumed the Capitol ever since Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) rolled out a measure this summer to oust the Speaker from power. Any lawmaker now has the ability to take up the Meadows plan and make a privileged motion to “vacate the chair,” forcing a roll-call vote on whether to remove Boehner.

In an interview in his Capitol office last week, Meadows raised the idea of a new governing coalition, stating he didn’t believe the next Speaker would come from the ranks of the far-right Freedom Caucus that he co-founded this year.

Meadows also mentioned he had called McCarthy last month while driving through his central California district on the way to speaking engagements but noted that they didn’t discuss his Boehner resolution.

“It potentially could be a coalition of someone from current leadership with a more conservative member as part of leadership,” Meadows told The Hill, “because our districts are not all Freedom Caucus districts.”

The first McCarthy era was in the early 50’s. How did THAT turn out?
Get ready for McCarthy II: “Are you now or have you ever been a card-carrying Muslim?”

You should see the comments over at thehill.com on this article.

The crazies are already condemning McCarthy as a RINO and are claiming this is a “false flag” story planted by the liberal media.

So we are hoping that moderate republicans are going to save the day?

The billionaires that control the house are not going to let that happen.

Billionaires are not exactly crazy about democracy.

It may take a while before he figures out he’s little more than a titular head.

The job was supposed to go to Eric Cantor *snicker*. According to Kevin’s bio his political accomplishments are limited to having a post office named after Buck Owens….that’s it.
On the other hand, that’s actually more than Congress has gotten done lately.

No, no., he’s way more accomplished than that. He also got a science research center named after Neil Armstrong.
Aside from those stellar legislative accomplishments, he may be good at obeying orders from the TeaBag Party.
