A Zippity Doo Dah Day

Posted by | September 25, 2015 13:29 | Filed under: Politics

John Boehner never seemed happier. The load is off his shoulders and he knows he’s doing the right thing.

The Ohio congressman entered a news conference on Friday afternoon singing: “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-a, my oh my, what a wonderful day!”

He said he had woken up on Friday morning and decided: “Today’s the day I’m going to do this.”

But the 65-year-old added: “I was thinking about walking out the door anyway.”

Mr Boehner dropped the bombshell on Republican lawmakers earlier on Friday.

His deputy, Kevin McCarthy, of California, is expected to be the top contender to replace him as Speaker.

well maybe he will join the dems…now that he’s resigning the house also…would that be even more shocking? A life long catholic his dream of having the pope speak in congress …only to have the pope basically tell him he’s in the wrong party….no wonder he resigned! ;)

    • anothertoothpick September 25th, 2015 at 14:39

This thing was negotiated by the bilionares long before the pope showed up.

If you think, for a second, the right wing has seen the errors of their ways, think again.

oh I am sure the RWNJTP wing is jumping for joy today….;) GO Pete King

Get ready for the house to vote against raising the next debt ceiling.

The damage that the t baggers can do are astronomical

          • maggie September 25th, 2015 at 15:26

hey let them shut down the gov…and become even more unpopular than they already are…they are in complete disarray; americans will be even more angry with them than they already are…this cost taxpayers 24 mil when they did it during the ACA …going to cost tax payers more…while the GOP sits around and twiddles it’s thumbs…..I see more moderate republican voter base moving to the dem voter base

            • anothertoothpick September 25th, 2015 at 16:14

Hey Maggie, you can check this out if you want to, but the last time they shut down the government a year later they took control of the senate.

              • maggie September 25th, 2015 at 16:22

and they have been sitting around twiddling their thumbs ever since…while obama passed the ACA….went to india, opened up cuba/us and took them off the terrorist list, and negotiated an Iran deal….what did the GOP vote for? the confederate flag. what are the shutting down the gov over? they want to block access to health care only now they can’t…(8 republicans voted against shutting down the gov..(.CRUZ; “geez…stupid.women…damn them to hell) ;O I don’t think that it’s going to be so good for them next voting round…;) the Pope just told them they are wrong…;)

                • anothertoothpick September 25th, 2015 at 16:32

Ok , and I agree with you. But it sure seems to me that shutting down the government in the repubs eyes, gives them more power.

We the people are very lucky we have Obama in the white house. But if the dems voters sit on their couches and dont vote in 2016 we will become a complete oligarchy whether you and me like it or not.

I agree…i think local elections are important…as well….I mean ideally it’s great to have high participation in local elections for the dems…I was just at a voter rights meeting yesterday…with other people who register people to vote….so I get it…

                      Good for you maggie.

The billionares may have the money but we have winners like you.

Mid terms are notorious for low voter turnout, the Dems had over 30 seats up for reelection. This is a presidential election, the Indepedents, Dems also show up in large numbers and the real repubs out number the teabaggers.

                • anothertoothpick September 25th, 2015 at 18:12

All that you said is true tracey but you still can’t say that the guv shutdown hurt the repubbs at the poles.

                  • tracey marie September 25th, 2015 at 18:22

Had nothing to do with anything, with this election the turnout will double and it is the repubs with over 35 seats up for reelection.

    • StoneyCurtisll September 25th, 2015 at 21:56

Life in post civil war south was so wonderful, former slaves just walked about aimlessly singing songs about how wonderful things were for them…
Something is amiss in this story line.

With cartoon bluebirds on their shoulders. That was the Disney version of the world.

If you think Boehner was a hard line conservative, just wait for what the GOP has in store for us…
We will look back on the good old days when a reasonable, moderate republican was speaker of the house.

  10. labman57 September 26th, 2015 at 00:51

The House GOP — out of the frying pan of ineptitude and into the fire of unbridled lunacy.

  11. William September 26th, 2015 at 08:56

    Lets review.

Of the last 4 GOP speakers. Two resigned in absolute disgrace. Boehner just quit, and one is under indictment.

    Newt Gingrich

    Bob Livingston (withdrew from consideration)

    Dennis Hastert

    John Boehner

    .
    What a legacy huh?
