Rubio Wants To Blame Democrats If Government Shuts Down Over Planned Parenthood1

Posted by | September 18, 2015 16:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

One wonders if this is part of naked presidential ambition, or does Marco Rubio really think Democrats are responsible for the pickle Republicans are in.

Rubio says a government shutdown over funding Planned Parenthood would be the fault of President Obama and Senate Democrats, an argument he says his fellow Republicans in Congress should have been making weeks ago.

“On the issue of Planned Parenthood, the work should have begun weeks ago, laying the groundwork for this debate,” said Rubio. “Obviously, the House, the Senate should have laid the groundwork for this debate, so people understand that we’re not just debating an organization here, that some people might think is a nice organization or whatever — we’re debating their practices.

“The point is this, on the Planned Parenthood issue: The people who are threatening a shutdown is Barack Obama, and his allies in the Senate,” said Rubio. “What they’re arguing is: ‘If the federal budget does not fully fund Planned Parenthood, I will veto the budget, and hence shut down the government.’ That should be the message. Instead, it’s always the reverse, ‘the Republicans are going to shut down the government.’

That’s because they are.

      I agree lol

  9. Mike September 18th, 2015 at 18:21

You’re gonna need a bigger bottle of water pendejo.
So, you’ve got yourselves a doctored up video and want to use it to defund an NGO that doesn’t use any federal funds for abortion but actually uses 97% of it’s resources to provide women’s health services specifically geared toward the poor…??? And you think they should have started crafting the narrative months ago…???
Blondie, you couldn’t sell sell that steaming pile of mierda to the public if you had started 2 years ago.

  10. toadUso September 18th, 2015 at 18:34

    Pay attention, Marco.

If you don’t pay the ransom, you’ll never see your wife again.
If you don’t defund Planned Parenthood, government shuts down.

The hostage-taker making a do-it-or-else demand is at fault. We all know how it works. Except Republicans. Nice try.

    • Robert Smithson September 18th, 2015 at 20:23

So the President is going to let the government shut down over some money to one private organization? Seems to me that he is the one standing in the way of the government continuing to be able to operate. It is him, the President crying the blues in essence saying if you don’t do it MY WAY, no one gets anything. He is only the President, not the true representatives of the people.

      • Budda September 18th, 2015 at 21:07

PP has 80 % approval of the general electorate. So by not funding it you believe it becomes Obamas fault?

        • Robert Smithson September 18th, 2015 at 22:40

Yes. Because he is the one doing the vetoing. The Congress did their duty and submitted a bill to fund the whole government except for giving money to one private company and the President is prepared to nix the bill for this one reason. He is clearly the one at fault.

          • arc99 September 18th, 2015 at 23:59

it is your precious GOP that is at fault, deliberately including the Planned Parenthood amendment when the President has made it clear that he will veto the measure.

why don’t the Republicans bring a standalone bill to the floor and have an up or down vote?

other than being amoral, gutless cowards with zero integrity that is…

          • bpollen September 19th, 2015 at 04:40

Let me use your logic here. If the Republican Congress decides they want to pull funds from black veterans’ health care, and threatens to shoot his dog if he doesn’t pass it with such a provision, it’s Obama’s fault if they shoot his dog?

Or, if a guy comes into your house and says that you either beat your wife to death or he’ll shoot her, it’s your fault if he shoots her?

            Yeah, THAT seems fair…

          • Budda September 19th, 2015 at 09:56

If the Repub budget is so good they should be able to override the veto. This is just more Republican obstruction. They are not interested in governing as much as obstructing Obama and Democrats.

      • Mike September 19th, 2015 at 11:39

First off, PP is a non-profit run by a board and not a private organization.
Secondly, the funding is already in place, republicans are trying to remove it.
Thirdly, it’s republicans crying the blues, not Obama.
And lastly, PP enjoys 80% support from the general public

Well done, you have misrepresented every single “fact” you posted.

Try a better one next time you SOB.

  15. Robert Smithson September 18th, 2015 at 20:20

The Constitution states that all spending bills come out of the Congress. In this particular case, they are sending a spending bill to the President that funds everything in the government except any monies for a private organization called Planned Parenthood. If for that one reason the President refuses to sign the spending bill into law and the government runs out of operating money, then it is clear his refusal to do so is the reason the government must shut down.

    • Budda September 18th, 2015 at 21:04

no, it’s the Rerpubs that loaded the budget with unacceptable cuts.

      Tit for tat, Robert

    • Obewon September 18th, 2015 at 21:08

Not one FY16 spending appropriation bill has been passed by your lowest GOP approved majority controlled congress.

      FYI 14th A Section 4.

The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any state shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void. https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxiv <-No budget approval or spending bills approved from the repub congress violates the 14th A again, as did the GOP shutdowns of 2013, 2011, etc. further proving Republicans can't govern and are anarchists.

    • anothertoothpick September 18th, 2015 at 21:10

So remind us again, why we should defund clinics that has been providing trusted health care for nearly 100 years.

      • Robert Smithson September 18th, 2015 at 22:28

Because their main business is providing abortions and the majority of the people in this country do not want their taxpayer dollars going to such an organization. If money is to be spent on women’s health care, there are plenty of other private health care organizations out there who could use the money and they don’t have this added baggage.

        • anothertoothpick September 18th, 2015 at 22:37

Robert please. Their main business is NOT abortion. It is womans health.

In fact they prevent thousands of abortions with birth control.

        • tracey marie September 18th, 2015 at 22:40

bullshit and I call bagger stupidity on you. 3% is abortion, which is alegal medical procedure.

          • alpacadaddy September 19th, 2015 at 08:59

Thanks TM, you saved me the trouble of responding to this arrogant imbecile.

        • whatthe46 September 18th, 2015 at 22:44

you knew exactly how stupid that would sound, yet you chose to say it anyway. damn.

        • anothertoothpick September 18th, 2015 at 22:57

The Hyde Amendment forbids any taxpayer money use of abortions.

Is that not enough for you?

Do you want to take away ALL womens health care ?

        • arc99 September 18th, 2015 at 23:57

No their main business is not abortion.

But when in doubt, just lie. It is all you right wingers are good at.

        • bpollen September 19th, 2015 at 04:31

          Math challenged too, I see.

          3% is NOT ≥ 97%

You can prove that for yourself with the fingers of you and 10 friends. Hold all your fingers in the air, then you put down three, and your 10 friends put down three between them. The see who has more fingers still up – you or your 10 friends.

Did you sleep through fractions in school?

    • The Original Just Me September 18th, 2015 at 22:18

Every post you put on here exposes the fact that you have no idea what you are talking about and that you have no idea of how our government works.

      • Robert Smithson September 18th, 2015 at 22:36

So the Congress is not the responsible party for all Federal spending? If you believe that, then it is clear that it is you who does not understand the Federal compact.
Look, the people of this country through their elected representatives want the giving of their taxpayer dollars going to this private organization stopped. President Obama, through his veto threat shows that he has no respect for the will of the people and like a spoiled child is willing to shut down the whole government over this one issue. Why won’t he compromise and accept verdict of the American people about this?

        • tracey marie September 18th, 2015 at 22:39

Over 80% disagree with you, 3% is not most of their buisness and this orginization provides HC to over 70% of the rural communities and the inner cities.

        • anothertoothpick September 18th, 2015 at 22:50

Only if you are stupid enoughh to belive that fake video.

You do know who is behind that video.

I have seen videos on you tube with soccer kickers kicking a ball through a basketball hoop a hundred yards away.

        • arc99 September 18th, 2015 at 23:56

Since when do you speak for the people of this country? The arrogance of your statement that the “American people” want this or that, is truly remarkable.

          Let’s be really clear.

I am an American and you do not speak for me on Planned Parenthood or any other issue.

The President I voted for also earned the votes of about 65million other citizens. You do not speak for them either.

As far as we are concerned, the President is following the will of the American people.

It is you right wingers who are the spoiled children, screaming and stomping your feet in hysterical tantrums, using faked videos in order to implement policy.

If defunding Planned Parenthood is such a great idea then put it in a standalone bill and let’s have a vote.. You guys don’t have the guts or integrity to do that. You include it in a general appropriations bill and then propagate the ridiculous notion that it will all be the fault of the President and the Democrats if government shuts down.

It is not the President who is putting a government shutdown on the table as a strategy, it is Republicans. Once again, the so-called Party of Personal Responsibility demonstrates its complete lack of competence or integrity.

        • Aunt Pee September 19th, 2015 at 01:01

You obviously don’t realize that Planned Parenthood is more popular among women than any candidate of either party, and that women comprise at least half of the voting population in this country. KEEP YOUR GODDAMN HANDS OFF OUR HEALTH CARE.

          • whatthe46 September 19th, 2015 at 01:22

            • Aunt Pee September 19th, 2015 at 18:01

Some of us don’t have a uterus any more. (That’s probably TMI, right?)

        • The Original Just Me September 19th, 2015 at 02:03

Every time you open your mouth, you demonstrate, what an ignorant idiot you are. The President HAS to present a budget REQUEST to The House of Representatives just after the opening of each new Congressional Session each year. Pres. Obama has done this each year as have all past and future Presidents. The House then builds a workable budget. This Budget is then passed onto the Senate for their approval or is sent back to the House with recommended changes. After Both Sides of Congress Concur on a new annual Budget, it is then sent to the President for his acceptance or rejection. If the Budget is rejected by the President as unworkable, the whole process starts over. The Congress has to make a WORKABLE Budget but they can not mandate that the Budget be accepted by the President. If the President Vetoes the budget sent to him, Congress can override his veto by a two thirds majority Vote. The Stupid Moronic Right Winger’s Nut Cases believe they can shove their Stupid Asinine Religious mandates down the Presidents throat, but we have a truly Decent President that will not let a few Morons ruin our way of life in the U.S. The Congress has not passed a full Budget ever since the Tea Party Asses have been elected. Now, you Tea Party Asses keep saying “The People” ” The People” when in Fact only about 18% of All U.S. Citizens agree with your Idiotic ideas. The Non-Compromising is Totally and completely on the Right Wing Side. And there is NO Verdict of the people. Verdicts are opinions handed down in Courts of Law and not in Public Forums.

    • bpollen September 19th, 2015 at 04:23

A bill of attainder. Specifically prohibited in the self-same Constitution you seem to think you know something about. You can’t pass legislation specifically targeting a group and declaring them guilty of crimes sans trial.

Why do they want to defund Planned Parenthood? Because there is a smear campaign making false claims that they are selling fetus parts. Multiple states have investigated and found no illegality. So, if you are removing funding from a group for supposed crimes before there is a trial, you are violating the Constitution. You’ve skipped the trial, found them guilty, and legislated the punishment. 6th Amendment says you have a right to a trial by jury. Congress ain’t a jury.

    • Darksnark September 19th, 2015 at 04:38

      Yeah, right.

Refusing to fund a vital source of medical care for millions of American women because a few heavily-edited right-wing propaganda videos would be blamed on our current president.

Use that line of spin-doctoring bullshit next year, and you folks are guaranteed to get your asses kicked at the polls….

  16. *NmySkynn70* September 18th, 2015 at 21:28

the obviously fail to take into consideration the people that WORK & MAKE A LIVING providing services for the government by drawing salaries. Do they think of what type of hardships this sort of thing will bring onto people that have nothing to with an ongoing war between two political parties hell bent on doing each other in??!! They are well of so why would they care about the “little people”??

    • whatthe46 September 18th, 2015 at 22:26

well i have to disagree that two parties are hell bent on doing each other in. only one side is acting like butthurt, immature brats. and that’s the RWNJ’s. because Obama will veto this, they plan to throw a tantrum. they are hurting working people and want to hurt women in general. no, it’s only on side.

    • tracey marie September 18th, 2015 at 22:41

  18. Darksnark September 19th, 2015 at 04:29

    Screw you, Marco Rubio.

If you’d spent more time actually doing your job instead of posturing, you’d know that Planned Parenthood provides vital medical care to millions of American women, and those same women won’t simply vote Republican….

  19. Böcker September 19th, 2015 at 08:11

No Rubio we already know who to blame, the republicans, again. Using PP as an excuse to shut down the government like you used the ACA is just stupid, kinda like your entire party.

  20. Foundryman September 19th, 2015 at 10:54

Just because the democrats are actually representing their constituents by not giving in to the extremists on the right means only they are leaders and not ideological puppets, like Rubio. Any shutdown will be the result of right wing extremism, and only right wing extremism.
