Alison Parker’s Dad: ‘They Messed With The Wrong Family’

Posted by | August 30, 2015 14:00 | Filed under: Politics

Andy Parker plans to be the voice of gun control.

On CNN on Sunday, Parker said he and his daughter’s boyfriend, Chris Hurst, wanted to lead a concerted push for reform on issues including basic background checks on all gun purchases, and cited offers of support from gun control activists and groups.

“I have been in contact with Mark Kelly, who is Gabby Giffords’ husband, who was very gracious to reach out to me,” he said. “And we’re going to get together in Washington. Senator [Mark] Warner has also, you know, told me: ‘Whatever we can do to help and facilitate that, let me know.’ Mayor [Michael] Bloomberg’s people have reached out.”

Parker added: “You always think there’s a tipping point. We always thought that when Gabby was shot, something would happen; with Sandy Hook, something would happen; with Aurora, something would happen, and it never did.”

Nothing is ever done because the NRA thinks 2nd amendment rights are absolute, and superior to everyone else’s right to life. Basic restrictions that make common sense to everyone else are abhorrent to the NRA.

    • Robert Smithson August 30th, 2015 at 21:59

And two basic restrictions that are currently in effect are: 1. Background checks are required. 2. Mental defectives are barred from owning firearms.

      • The Original Just Me August 31st, 2015 at 09:30

Only for those gun purchases from licensed dealers. Back Alley gun sales are usually where gun violence comes from.

      • bpollen September 13th, 2015 at 02:19

        2. Mental defectives are barred from owning firearms

I’ll see your #2 and raise you Dylann Roof, James Holmes, Ian Stawicki, Andrew Engeldinger, Jared Loughner, Seung-Hui Cho (need I go on?)

while i applaude him in his effort, it’s a damn shame that it took his daughters death to come to this, all too matter of a fact, problem. i wonder if this was in issue with when the 9 church members died. and i’ve said it would take someone like her to be murdered before anyone would even consider listening. i hope they do succeed, it would at least mean they didn’t die in vain.

      • Tommie August 30th, 2015 at 20:14

I felt the same way but i figured people would have thought i was being insensitive!

        • whatthe46 August 30th, 2015 at 20:47

i hope no one thinks i’m being insensitive, but it is true. and i am serious that i hope that they didn’t die in vain.

        • The Original Just Me August 31st, 2015 at 09:22

There is a big difference between being insensitive and being real. Most folks feelings on this are real.

      • LoisB August 30th, 2015 at 20:49

I don’t think you’re being insensitive. I had the same thoughts when he first made it known that he was going to push for gun reform.

      • Robert Smithson August 30th, 2015 at 20:57

Lets see, when the 9 church members got killed everyone went after the white racists and the confederate flag. So why aren’t the gay black racists and the rainbow flag the targets now? Or did I miss something?

There’s a clever response. Did you think that one up all by yourself?

        • whatthe46 August 30th, 2015 at 22:13

you hold onto that. how many immigrants, legal or not, have blown up buildings murdering more than a 100 people including babies, stormed into movie theatres murdering innocent people, shooting up schools full of babies or killing people because they think they are jewish. so stfu with your bigoted and racist ass b.s.

          • Robert Smithson August 31st, 2015 at 08:26

Thousands of them have committed serious crimes including hundreds of murders. Illegals have no right to be here in America and we have the right to control who comes in and stays.

            • Obewon August 31st, 2015 at 09:00

Any accurate Google search proves Immigrants cause lees crime than American born citizens, and ” the National Research Council estimated that immigrants and their descendants would contribute about $80,000 more in taxes (in 1996 dollars) than they would receive in public services. (Source: Smith and Edmonston)”-G W Bush White House. http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/cea/cea_immigration_062007.html

Repubs lost 5 of the past 6 popular POTUS votes because 2/3+ of all legacy minorities vote for the Democrats and aren’t as dim as debunked Robert Smithson.

              • jokin57 October 26th, 2015 at 05:20

And for sponsoring the bill that led to the largely non-assimilating invasion of benefit-receiving-Democrat-voting, permanent ethnic blocs who in many cases remain more loyal to their mother countries- we can thank the late, not-so great Senator Teddy Kennedy- that sexuallly harassing, adulterous, cheating, lying, slandering and of course drunk-driving homicidal (to Mary Jo Kopechne) “Lion of the Senate”. You Dems have such a rich heritage of “leaders” to look up to.

Okay, here’s the plan. We as U.S. Citizens, get to vote on who stays and who goes. For the first one on the “to go list”, I nominate Robert Smithson on the grounds of EXTREME Prejudice and Hatred which can lead to a violent behavior.

          • The Original Just Me August 31st, 2015 at 09:13

It is very obvious that this Low Life does not have a problem with human violence. He just has a problem with Immigrants. It makes you wonder where his people came from and if maybe we should Protest against immigrants from that country.

          • jokin57 October 26th, 2015 at 05:07

“How many immigrants, legal or not,” have committed mass murder and all sorts of individual mayhem on innocent Americans of all ages?

Quite a few, actually.- the numbers of Americans killed, maimed and assaulted by foreigners is staggering. Protip- Google is your friend if you want to let it be known that you at least attempt to use half of your cranial capacity. Please try harder to think and research before you post next time and leave no doubt about your current status as an intellectual lightweight.

        • The Original Just Me August 31st, 2015 at 09:08

Americans murder, rape, and assault Americans. So. what’s your point ? You are taking the problem of physical violence and applying it only to one group of people. Sorry to inform you but ALL of Society has a certain percentage of violent people. You can not just select one segment of society and place all of societies problems on that segment. Even if you are EXTREMELY prejudiced against that group.

        • bpollen September 13th, 2015 at 01:28

        • jokin57 October 26th, 2015 at 05:00

So do most of the politically correct and brainwashed progressives. FYi, it was hillary who initially pushed the birthe theory in 2005 and 2008. And of course, Obama publicly pretended to be from Kenya in the 1990s when it was educationally and politically expedient to do so. And isn’t it bigoted to hurl a crude sexual slur at an entire group of people with absolutely no foundation?

Sorry Tracy… look in the mirror…do some research… and then maybe think before you post next time.

WE’RE number one, we’re number one!

    • Robert M. Snyder August 30th, 2015 at 20:10

Wikipedia puts the US gun murder rate at 3.55 for 2013. The same article lists the rate for Guatemala at 34.8. I am acquainted with a family of legal Guatemalan immigrants. They tell me that there are a lot of violent people in Guatemala. If we are concerned about gun violence, shouldn’t we also be concerned about preventing violent people from immigrating from countries like Guatemala? I am not an admirer of Donald Trump, but it seems to me that he has a point about preventing “bad people” from immigrating to the US. If a gun murder rate of 3.7 per 100,000 shows that the US has a violent culture, then what does a rate of 34.8 say about Guatemalan culture?

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

      • Robert Smithson August 30th, 2015 at 21:02

Not only that, but El Salvador and other Central/South American nations have just as bad a problem.

        • bpollen September 13th, 2015 at 01:23

American cops make them seem like pikers.

          • jokin57 October 26th, 2015 at 04:54

            Now there’s a fact-free canard .

            • bpollen October 26th, 2015 at 05:10

The US murder rate per 100,000 people is 3.7. Guatemala is 34.8 per 100,000. US cops exceed 130 per 100,000.

              Those are facts.

So, it’s not fact free, and since it isn’t fact free or unfounded, it’s not a canard. Feel free to present verifiable data to counter my numbers. Saying “Is not is not is not” really doesn’t constitute anything even approaching a counter-argument.

So, got any facts? Of course not.

      • William August 31st, 2015 at 07:07

So….? You want to take a conversation about gun violence and change it to immigration. Specifically Guatemala.
        Your turn.
I’d like to take your conversation about Guatemala and change it to Byzantine history.

        • Robert M. Snyder August 31st, 2015 at 07:20

If a large number of Americans started moving to Switzerland, the Swiss people might express concern about whether these new American immigrants would bring their violent American culture with them. Nobody would fault the Swiss for expressing those concerns. But if Americans express concerns about the violent culture of immigrants from Guatemala or other Central American countries, we are racist bigots, right?

          • William September 1st, 2015 at 08:20

Ohhh cool. Now we change the conversation about gun violence in America to Americans emigrating to Switzerland..
Good one. I mean why bother with a conversation based upon events when it’s just so easy to make up a fantasy scenario to walk the subject away from gun violence.
            Seriously?
Does this shit actually work on the idiots over at the right wing blogs?

          • bpollen September 13th, 2015 at 01:17

Right. You are. If you base you opinion of an entire people on the actions YOU perceive to be bad committed by a minority of the population, that is the very DEFINITION of bigotry. The very fact that you have to ask the question shows you are not only a bigot, but a very un-self-aware bigot at that.

Should all Christians be judged by Kim Davis, Jim Jones, WBC, Ted Haggard, Scott Roeder, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, Torquemada, Amy Semple McPherson, Peter Popoff, Tony Alamo, J. Frank Norris, (I could go on for pages upon pages,) etc?

      • bpollen September 13th, 2015 at 01:04

If a gun murder rate of 3.7 per 100,000 shows that the US has a violent culture, then what does a rate of 34.8 say about Guatemalan culture?”

I’m appalled that you need this pointed out to you, but what it means is that Guatemalans have an EXCELLENT reason to want to come to American, and you, in your infinite wisdom and compassion, are claiming that fleeing violence means you are suspect.

Do you even frickin’ listen to what you are saying?

If we follow your logic, we shouldn’t let COPS into the country – 765,000 cops equals 1000 deaths in 2014. A rate exceeding 130 per 100,000.

        • whatthe46 September 13th, 2015 at 01:37

Why thank you… I admit I have very personal reasons to fight this fight. No child should ever believe they are worth less than others, and no child deserves some self-righteous mofo trying to tell them that they are less because of who they are, where they’re from, who they love.

    • Tommie August 30th, 2015 at 20:12

      Wow a real eye opener!

    • Robert Smithson August 30th, 2015 at 22:01

And Britain has more violent crimes than us and Japan has more suicides.

      • William August 31st, 2015 at 07:08

        ….and your point is what?

        • whatthe46 September 13th, 2015 at 00:40

his point is, he knows how to type out words. even though they don’t mean jack.

      • Garry Gale August 31st, 2015 at 11:29

Violent crime in the UK has far wider (larger) definition of what constitutes ‘violent crime’ than pertains in the United States of Ammunition….. You cannot compare… unless you are another gun totting moron? see> https://dispellingthemythukvsusguns.wordpress.com/

        United Kingdom:
“Violent crime contains a wide range of offences, from minor assaults such as pushing and shoving that result in no physical harm through to serious incidents of wounding and murder. Around a half of violent incidents identified by both BCS and police statistics involve no injury to the victim.”
        United States:
“In the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Violent crimes are defined in the UCR Program as those offenses which involve force or threat of force.”

        Nice Try!

        • jokin57 October 26th, 2015 at 04:45

How about this for a cross-cultural comparison, instead? From Snopes:

“Switzerland issues every adult a gun and trains them how to use it:
Switzerland has the lowest gun-related crime rate in the civilized world.”

          Nice try!

  7. Robert Smithson August 30th, 2015 at 21:00

Once again I need to point out that background checks are a requirement in every state in America. The guy passed his background check with no problem, so what new law would have stopped this guy?

    • Mr. Garvey August 31st, 2015 at 10:13

Irrelevant… Look at me we need more gun control even though my daughters killer followed the law when purchasing his gun.

So obviously we need more laws for people to follow before they kill someone.
