Make That 20,000 Not 30,000 Show Up At Trump’s Southern Strategy

Posted by | August 22, 2015 08:55 | Filed under: Politics

The Donald wants to prove he can make it in the South.

Trump fans came by the thousands, driving from the Florida panhandle, from Mississippi, from Tennessee and Texas. Traffic was backed up for more than a mile.

On the street, Olaf Childress, a neo-Confederate activist, gave out copies of “The First Freedom” newspaper, which had headlines about “Black-on-white crime,” “occupied media” and “censored details of the Holocaust.”

The most-enthusiastic Trump backers began arriving at the stadium at dawn, hoping to get a spot close to the stage…

Trump chose Mobile for his big rally in part because it is the hometown of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R), an immigration hard-liner who has been counseling Trump and helped him develop his immigration policy paper. Trump brought Sessions onstage. The senator put on a white “Make America Great Again” hat. (“These hats are hot as a pistol,” Trump quipped.)

But there is plenty of resistance to Trump’s candidacy here. “My plea to my conservatives is, ‘Don’t get so far out in right field that we can’t talk to anyone but ourselves,’ ” said Jack Edwards, who represented the Mobile area in Congress for two decades.

No chance that was 30,000 people.

  2. William August 22nd, 2015 at 09:20

Just let this sink in for a while.

  3. Anomaly 100 August 22nd, 2015 at 09:40

    Let’s flip that picture around.

    • Linda1961 August 22nd, 2015 at 09:50

Not even half full – no way that’s 30K people! Maybe 20K…

    • mea_mark August 22nd, 2015 at 09:50

I think I’m missing something, where’s the burning cross and the confederate flag of treason?

    • anothertoothpick August 22nd, 2015 at 10:00

There is someone, at the bottom of the picture, standing all by himself.

I wonder if that is Piyush?

      • William August 22nd, 2015 at 11:15

“I wonder if that is Piyush?”
        Piyush??
        oh….right..

        • anothertoothpick August 22nd, 2015 at 11:32

I hope little Piyush is allowed to attend the next gop[eeee debate.

And have someone ask him to explain that name change story.

I cannot hear that story enough. My sides are splitting just thinking about it.

        • anothertoothpick August 22nd, 2015 at 11:45

If they ever come out with a “vote for Piyush” bumper sticker I will be all over it.

    • anothertoothpick August 22nd, 2015 at 10:11

      Now…Here is a BIG crowd.

    • Suzanne McFly August 22nd, 2015 at 10:16

They said the crowd was 20,000, the stadium holds 40,000. Does this look like 30,000 to you?

      • Anomaly 100 August 22nd, 2015 at 12:09

        Nope.

      • Tommie August 22nd, 2015 at 14:40

Surprised they didn’t just computer generated them!

        • Suzanne McFly August 22nd, 2015 at 14:43

Shhh, you are given them ideas.

          • whatthe46 August 22nd, 2015 at 15:34

            you’re so right. lol

          • Larry Schmitt August 22nd, 2015 at 15:37

That’s the only way they have any, is if someone else gives them ideas.

            • Suzanne McFly August 22nd, 2015 at 16:16

No way, they are pulling some of their ideas from their nether regions also. I hear that is why they call him rumpster, he has some great right wing ideas shoved up there.

              • Larry Schmitt August 22nd, 2015 at 16:21

Can those really be called ideas, based on where they came from?

                • Suzanne McFly August 22nd, 2015 at 16:38

I think so, they are crappy ideas, but ideas none the less.

    • Foundryman August 22nd, 2015 at 11:39

It’s sweet that only half of them made it there.

    • Foundryman August 22nd, 2015 at 20:53

That must be Trump standing at this end of the field looking over the yooog masses of people before him saying “Hey losers!!! I’m down here at this end”!!!!

  4. NW10 August 22nd, 2015 at 09:49

Most of whom were paid $50 to show up.

    • Larry Schmitt August 22nd, 2015 at 16:22

That’s how it turned out at his escalator announcement. They didn’t even get scale.

      • ErnestineBass August 22nd, 2015 at 16:37

        Only speaking roles earn scale.

  5. Maxx44 August 22nd, 2015 at 10:35

That this profoundly unqualified “candidate” could draw even this small crowd is confirmation of the dumbing down of the tinfoil hat brigade.

  6. labman57 August 22nd, 2015 at 10:39

White Southern racists are drawn to Trump much as moths to a flame … or flies to rotten meat.

    • Scopedog August 22nd, 2015 at 13:25

I think “like flies to s*@!” works better…:)

      • ErnestineBass August 22nd, 2015 at 16:37

Flies to bullsh!t works even better than that.

  7. Foundryman August 22nd, 2015 at 11:07

When Sanders gets thousands to show up with only an announcement he’ll be there, it’s a surprise. When Trump announces there will be 40K there ahead of time, it’s PLANNED! There IS a difference! Sanders is rallying people, Trump is buying them.

    • eyelashviper August 22nd, 2015 at 12:17

Just wonder how many busses were parked outside, after bringing in thousands of paid screechers.

    • BigDumbWhiteGuy August 22nd, 2015 at 16:32

I’m hoping Trump comes through Michigan soon. I could use the cash, the laughs, and I can be bought (my attendance, not my brain).

      • ErnestineBass August 22nd, 2015 at 16:41

Make sure to take a pocketful of stink bombs with you.

        • BigDumbWhiteGuy August 22nd, 2015 at 16:45

          Oooh, good idea.

  8. Budda August 22nd, 2015 at 11:51

It may start to make sense when you understand that half of Americans are below average.

  9. wpadon August 22nd, 2015 at 12:06

Remember, high school football season has not started yet. What else is there to do on a Friday night in Birmingham? Go to the opera?

    • Mike August 22nd, 2015 at 13:24

There is internet porn and waxing the ol carrot…aren’t they #1 in that…???

      • DogsRgoodpeople August 22nd, 2015 at 13:57

lol yeah, they’re just wrapped so tight from all the religiosity. A good hit of Mendo Blendo might help.

    • Tommie August 22nd, 2015 at 14:36

Klan rallies fun for the whole family!

    • ErnestineBass August 22nd, 2015 at 16:35

      Mobile.

      • wpadon August 22nd, 2015 at 17:15

I was assuming some of the people attending the event came from the largest city in Alabama. Perhaps there is something else to do on a Friday night in Birmingham for a klan member.

        • ErnestineBass August 22nd, 2015 at 17:44

Klan BBQs/cross-burning/keggers are generally held on Saturday nights.

  10. Reggie August 22nd, 2015 at 12:19

Trump reminds me of Jason Vorhees

dude keeps coming back, there gonna have to bring in his dead mother to stop him

    Trump Lives 2016!

    • whatthe46 August 22nd, 2015 at 12:45

      “Friday the 13th Part 2016”

      • Larry Schmitt August 22nd, 2015 at 16:25

I didn’t know his last name. I’ve never seen one of those movies.

        • Hirightnow August 22nd, 2015 at 16:46

And you call yourself an American….

          • Larry Schmitt August 22nd, 2015 at 17:14

I’m also proud to say I’ve never seen Cameron’s Titanic either. And never heard Celine Dion sing the theme song.

            • Hirightnow August 23rd, 2015 at 07:52

              HERETIC! NON-BELIEVER! UNCLEAN!

        • whatthe46 August 22nd, 2015 at 18:31

say what? what’s wrong with you? i’m so sad.

          • Larry Schmitt August 22nd, 2015 at 18:42

I have a very well-rounded cultural foundation in spite of that.

            • whatthe46 August 22nd, 2015 at 19:48

give it a go. the first one is the best.

        • bpollen August 22nd, 2015 at 20:39

Never managed to finish one… Hacker/slasher movies would be really short if it weren’t for brain-dead victims. “There’s a maniacal killer in the woods, so Darlene and me are going to the forest to neck!”

  11. CandideThirtythree August 22nd, 2015 at 14:31

Bernie would have filled that stadium to overflowing.

  12. Tommie August 22nd, 2015 at 14:33

The south is where he will get most of his support, most southerners REALLY appreciate the things he say since they don’t like certain types of people in this country! White power! The south shall rise again!

    • ErnestineBass August 22nd, 2015 at 16:35

      “The south shall rise again!”

Har! At least now we know why southerners are called crackers.

      • whatthe46 August 22nd, 2015 at 18:31

        lol

      • bpollen August 22nd, 2015 at 20:36

        The South Shall Rise Again!

        Thanks, Viagra!

        • Carolina Gonzalez August 22nd, 2015 at 22:44

and after that….go look for your cousin

  13. Chinese Democracy August 22nd, 2015 at 15:06

20,000 idiots in one place at one time. Isnt that going to put a tear in the space time continuum ?

    • Larry Schmitt August 22nd, 2015 at 15:39

We survive the GOP convention every four years, we can survive this.

    • ErnestineBass August 22nd, 2015 at 16:31

Naaaah. The south’s been frozen in time for the last 150 years.

  14. spacegod August 22nd, 2015 at 16:41

    Not quite as yooj.

  15. Darksnark August 22nd, 2015 at 18:24

Donald really brings out the “real” Americans when he makes an appearance.

So enthused are Trump’s fans that they scream “white power!” from the bleachers while The Donald speaks: http://www.rawstory.com/2015/08/white-power-trumps-alabama-pep-rally-brings-out-folks-who-want-to-shoot-illegals-at-the-border/

Yes, indeed, Donald Trump is the presidential candidate the modern GOP deserves….

    • Tim Coolio August 22nd, 2015 at 20:33

And the ones shouting white power think immigrants might be good candidates to consider using as modern slaves.

  16. Frank Foster August 22nd, 2015 at 19:45

Picky, picky, picky…the 10,000 were probably the actors that were supposed to be there but got a better gig at the last minute. Besides, Trump could TELL 10,000 people to be there and they would be there…..just like that wall he’s (I mean Mexico is) gonna build.

  17. amersham46 August 22nd, 2015 at 20:03

Counting pass 11 is advanced mathematics in Alabama , so we must give them the benefit of the doubt

  18. nola878 August 22nd, 2015 at 22:40

    Still 20,000 too many…

These idiots are the tip off the mostly submerged iceberg that can still sink the nation…

  19. robert August 22nd, 2015 at 23:23

all sources are pointing to the mayor of mobile Al. for not counting correctly Some are saying he possibly didn’t count at all

of course im guessing at this just like the mayor did

  20. fahvel August 23rd, 2015 at 02:41

when a rich man, who represents all that is ugly and repulsive about the usa (and being giggled at by some billions of people), is what draws crowds, you all should be saddened. This caricature or poster boy fro ugly conceit needs to be ignored or have his shit exposed every time he blinks.
