The Duggars, Bob and Michelle, and Josh, have issued statements following revelations that Josh used the cheating website Ashley Madison. For some reason, the link to the original statement brought up an error page, but now the statement is back in shorter form. Josh admits, in addition to a “secret addiction” to pornography:

Statement from Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar:

Please see the statement below from our son Josh regarding recent media stories about him. When we learned of this late last night our hearts were broken. As we continue to place our trust in God we ask for your prayers for Josh, Anna, our grandchildren and our entire family.

Statement from Josh Duggar:

I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.

I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.

I brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions that happened when I was 14-15 years old, and now I have re-broken their trust.

The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country, I was hiding my own personal failings.

As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose to our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.

I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time.

    Actually Josh, in my opinion you are not the biggest hypocrite ever.

    That distinction would go to the people defending and rationalizing your behavior. Your family earned a substantial income, presenting themselves as the perfect paradigm of a moral Christian family. You were held up as examples as people to emulate.

    Then when it comes to light that you are engaging in some of the very behavior your audience rails against, it is not you who they criticize. They criticize the media for reporting it and they criticize others who point to the hypocrisy of saying one thing while doing the other.

    Your audience has demonstrated that when it comes to values, it is words not deeds which impress them. President Jimmy Carter is orders of magnitude more of a Christian in his public and private life than you, Josh Duggar. Seems to me that Mr. Carter who is a military veteran, a graduate of Annapolis, a devout Christian, and a devoted husband and father would be the ideal role model for all that conservative Christians hold dear.

    Yet, it is you, the man who felt up his sisters, who the far right evangelicals acclaim as a role model and whose behavior they excuse. That tells me all I need to know about your audience and why they are my nominees for the biggest hypocrites ever (BC or AD).

    I have heard from some locals in the area that before the show came along, the Duggars were a HUGE drain on their local church, who were constantly having clothing and food drives to support just this group alone.

    Keep this in mind when you recall the episode where the Duggars held their own food drive and gave some groceries to a needy family, and as soon as the cameras were turned off they took all the food away from the needy family and kept it all for themselves. Absolute scumbags!

    The Duggars are literally addicted to money, fame, and political power. They actually believe that they have a God-given right to have a reality show that will be on the air forever, they are entitled to having millions of dollars rolling in, and they will one day have their own Dominionist version of JFK who will rule over all with a fist of Divine Right.

    Funny how these holier-than-thou types become so repentant AFTER they’re caught doing the nasty. They didn’t know beforehand that adultery was wrong? That lying was wrong? That cheating was wrong? No, they knew it was wrong but they never thought they’d get caught.

    Remember Jimmy Swaggart? He was the first to accuse others of immoral behavior, while he himself was having sex with prostitutes and farm animals. Once he got caught, I’ve never seen so much crying in my life as he watched his cash cow leave the pasture..

    So self-admitted child molester Josh Duggar is now blaming exposure to pornography as an adult for the fact that he had two different accounts on a website dedicated to facilitating adultery?

    Duggar has been a sexual deviant since the age of 14, so I doubt his recent on-line activity represents any new sort of behavior.

    And one has to wonder if any of the women he may have cheated with have young daughters at home….
