Fiorina Emerges As Republican Weapon On War On Women

Posted by | August 13, 2015 14:00 | Filed under: Politics

The Republicans see Carly Fiorina as their weapon against the misogyny of Donald Trump and his defenders.

In a crowded Republican field, Mrs. Fiorina has delivered the most forceful and succinct denunciation of Mr. Trump’s comments, which sent a shudder through a party concerned that it would reinforce perceptions that it was increasingly out of touch with female voters.

Now, many Republicans, preparing to potentially confront Mrs. Clinton in a general election, are looking anew at Mrs. Fiorina, who rose from being a secretary to running the giant technology company HP, as the party’s weapon to counter the perception that it is waging a “war on women.”

“People feel Carly has clearly demonstrated she is a very powerful operator, has a lot of strengths of conviction and is willing to take Hillary — and now even Trump — on very directly,” said Katie Packer Gage, a political strategist who focuses on helping Republicans connect with women.

Asked whether she was willing to play the role of telegenic poster girl of the Republican presidential field, Mrs. Fiorina said, “I know Hillary Clinton wants to paint the entire Republican Party with the broad brush of Donald Trump’s comments, but it’s not clear to me that Donald Trump is a Republican.”

I upvoted your question also, because I think it’s legitimate.

  2. allison1050 August 13th, 2015 at 15:07

Gee, I wonder how much of a weapon she would really be when confronted with the women that she laid off from HP.

  3. Larry Schmitt August 13th, 2015 at 15:15

tRump may not be a republican, but you are stuck with him.

Well she is on the wrong side where women’s issues are concerned…http://thinkprogress.org/election/2015/05/04/3653695/no-carly-fiorinas-candidacy-doesnt-negate-war-women/

    • Robert M. Snyder August 13th, 2015 at 22:12

Yes, because you speak for all women. Not.

      • rg9rts August 14th, 2015 at 04:39

And you are the bastion of male dominance…still beat your wife to keep her in line???

        • Robert M. Snyder August 14th, 2015 at 05:47

You guys should be praising Carly Fiorina. She is smart, prepared, informed, and articulate. She would be a great role model for young women. It amazes me how the same people who are always saying that women don’t get enough respect will fail to show respect for any woman who happens to have conservative values. In another comment (above) someone said that Fiorina was a “call girl”, and nobody responded to that. If liberals ever want to be taken seriously, they had better start living up to their own standards.

          • rg9rts August 14th, 2015 at 06:17

            So you still beat her.

          • rg9rts August 14th, 2015 at 07:38

You neglect that she ran HP into the ground…

          • Judgeforyourself37 August 14th, 2015 at 12:44

A “great role model” to have nearly made a company declare bankruptcy? To eschew women’s rights, is a great “role model?” Really?

            • Suzanne McFly August 14th, 2015 at 12:53

He thinks because she has a uterus all women will automatically support her. Just like minorities will support carson. We are just women, thinking is not our strong point. We do what our men folk tell us and this time we are gaining strength by voting for a person with a vajayjay. Of course carly will have best intentions for women, our mens promise us that.

              • whatthe46 August 15th, 2015 at 23:58

which is stupid. that’s like saying i support (puking) carson or keys because i’m black. that’s fk’n stupid.

                • Suzanne McFly August 16th, 2015 at 00:03

Exactly, he is lumping us because he can’t think on his own and he assumes no one else can either.

            • Robert M. Snyder August 14th, 2015 at 13:09

You speak of women’s rights, yet you would deny Fiorina the right to express an opinion that differs from your own. You don’t support women’s rights. You are just providing yet another social norm to which you expect women to conform. Smart women think for themselves. They don’t take orders from elitist liberals who think they are smarter than everyone else.

              • whatthe46 August 15th, 2015 at 23:57

“…yet you would deny Fiorina the right to express an opinion that differs from your own.” no one is denying this heffa to speak her “mind.” what’s there anyway. she can say whatever she wants. i welcome it. it gives everyone a better insight as to what she is and what she’s about. herself. and that’s it.

                • Robert M. Snyder August 16th, 2015 at 00:01

                  “heffa”? Misogynist much?

                  • whatthe46 August 16th, 2015 at 00:12

                    she’s a heffa heffa heffa!

          • whatthe46 August 15th, 2015 at 23:55

“She would be a great role model for young women.” she doesn’t even support women. she must be living through the Phyllis Stewart Schlafly playbook. i got mine, fk you.

      • Suzanne McFly August 14th, 2015 at 12:24

That is your response to a comment….”not”?…………how old are you? 3? Don’t comment to me again unless you have a valid reply.

        • Robert M. Snyder August 14th, 2015 at 13:04

Carly Fiorina is living proof that women are just as smart, capable, hard-working, and courageous as men. Her record is not perfect, but it is quite a record of accomplishment. She ran a multinational corporation in an historically male-dominated industry. She is a role model for young women. You said that she is on the wrong side of women’s issues. Which women’s issues? The women I know are concerned about many issues. For the record, I am 55, and this month I will celebrate 30 years of marriage to a smart, strong, compassionate woman (a maternity nurse) who happens to be on what you call the “wrong” side of what you call “women’s” issues. Stop pretending that women are a monolithic block. You are entitled to your opinions on the issues. You are entitled to disagree with Carly Fiorina and millions of other women who share her views. But you do not speak for all women. There is no right side or wrong side, because there are millions of intelligent women on both sides. Celebrate diversity for a change.

          • Suzanne McFly August 15th, 2015 at 14:35

She is not for equal pay, she does not want to fund poor women’s birth control, she failed at leading a successful business….she is not for women but you weaved a great napkin.

            • Robert M. Snyder August 15th, 2015 at 15:50

I am trying to be fair to Fiorina. She started out as a secretary and rose to become CEO of a major corporation. I think you would agree with me that this took a lot of talent and hard work. So we know that she has those qualities.

I am trying to imagine what it was like for her to be the first woman to manage this company. When she proposed buying Compaq, Walter Hewlett (son of the company’s cofounder) initially supported the idea, but later opposed it vehemently. Imagine yourself in Fiorina’s shoes. You’ve got a board member who inherited his position and probably feels like he knows more about the industry than you do. Was she being treated as an equal? I’m not saying that any of the board members were sexist, but would it be surprising?

Do you seriously believe that a woman who started out as a secretary would not be for equal pay in principle? I am not talking about specific legislation, where the devil is in the details. But seriously, how can you imagine that she would not want women to be compensated equally for equal work?

You say that she is not for women, but I wonder if you might have that backward. Are women for her? It seems to me that the strongest critics of women are usually other women. Women complain about being called “bossy” or “bitchy”, but most of the time it is other women who say those things. Can you say anything good about Carly Fiorina?

              • Suzanne McFly August 15th, 2015 at 23:09

I don’t care what she did as a woman, I care what her policies would be once in office and I completely disagree with her. You keep trying to lump me into a group because I have ovaries, but I guess you don’t understand. I don’t think with ovaries, I use the grey matter in my head and I don’t follow people blindly just because of gender or race.

                • Robert M. Snyder August 15th, 2015 at 23:19

Ha ha. You’re funny! You started out saying that she is on the wrong side of women’s issues. So you were explicitly talking about a group of people who have ovaries!

Don’t worry. I’m not laughing at you. I’m laughing with you, because I know you’re laughing at yourself!

                  • Suzanne McFly August 15th, 2015 at 23:34

I guess things are hard to follow, I am a teacher so I am used to kids who have not yet learned how to keep their train of thought. You came out claiming I cannot speak for all women, but yet most of us do not support her. Then you ramble on about how great she did at running a business into the ground. Then you come out claiming well she was a secretary so of course she is for equal pay. She is not, go and research something before you have an opinion and do not address me again until you have read something and did not just make some airhead comments.

                    • Robert M. Snyder August 15th, 2015 at 23:44

                      “Don’t comment to me again”
                      “do not address me again”

Utterly pathetic. Is that how you talk to your students?

                    • whatthe46 August 15th, 2015 at 23:53

she’s right and you’re wrong. she rose to the top and fk’d it up royally. 100’s lost their jobs. the company paid her to go the fk away. now that she was able to get where she was, she doesn’t give a damn about other women. i don’t want a woman that doesn’t support women issues. are you stupid or what?

                    • Suzanne McFly August 16th, 2015 at 00:01

Typical, you try to manipulate what a person says so you feel better about yourself. Sorry bud, I have a healthy self-esteem and will hardly be belittled by you but it is a really cute try. Here is the part you conveniently left out…………until you have read something and did not just make some airhead comments…..and yes, when my students give me something that is done in a sloppy manner, I tell them to take it back and give it to me when it is properly finished. It is called teaching them a life lesson.

                    • Robert M. Snyder August 16th, 2015 at 00:19

Life has taught Fiorina some lessons too, don’t you think? Why you can’t give her any credit for her accomplishments? A lot of people on the right have demonized Hillary. I don’t agree with all of her positions, but I think she deserves respect for her accomplishments. Another example is Dianne Feinstein. I’ll never understand why she never ran for president. She is much more qualified than Hillary. Again, I disagree with many of Feinstein’s positions, but I have a lot of respect for her accomplishments. Why do you feel so threatened by Fiorina? What are you afraid of?

                    • Suzanne McFly August 16th, 2015 at 00:23

I never said she hadn’t made many accomplishments, you seem to want to twist words and dismiss my actual argument because you have no way to rebut what I said. And by the way, I am afraid of nothing, especially some empty suit you seem to favor.

  5. DrPills August 13th, 2015 at 15:56

This could be almost as good for the Dems as was the nomination of tundratart (thanks tracey). Fiorina becomes CEO of one of the worlds greatest tech companies and in a few years puts the company in the dumpster. Ms. F gets a grand golden parachute, runs for Senate and again gets fired. Then just to make the point, stiffs staffers and creditors with unpaid bills. Just what I as a “D” would love to see…Fiorina.

    • Gindy51 August 13th, 2015 at 16:36

She’s the Palin of the business world. Sarah put her home town of Wasilla $20M in the hole for that sports complex built on land they had no permits to build on (fines).

  7. Dwendt44 August 13th, 2015 at 16:19

The conservatives have always been able to find a woman or two that is willing to work against her own best interest, either as a spokesperson or a candidate. Some conservative or Republican women want to be told what to do and what to think. I doubt that sells well in this day and age.

    • Judgeforyourself37 August 14th, 2015 at 12:40

Good grief, why does anyone give her “the time of day,” she brought HP to its knees, when she was CEO. Only after she was fired, with a platinum parachute, I might add, did HP start to emerge as a Fortune 500 company.

  8. Mike August 13th, 2015 at 16:47

What a load of hogwash…she’s a protest candidate like the rest and nothing more than a bought and paid for call girl….she couldn’t raise enough money on her own to stay in the race so Cruz gave her a half million so she could go on the attack for the party….

It borders on the absurd so the R’s should eat it up and ask for seconds.
