Michael O’Neill is a former Niagara County corrections officer.

[He is] is accused of making seven bombs and was arrested two weeks ago after one of the devices accidentally went off. O’Neill was rushed to a hospital where his leg had to be amputated…

Pictures of the KKK, Nazi imagery and the Confederate flag were found inside his home, which he lives in with his stepfather, William Ross, who chairs the Niagara County Legislature, WGRZ reports…

His attorney said O’Neill was just planning to blow up some tree stumps.

“The fact that there were some items that we described in court as consistent with, white supremacists, to include the Ku Klux Klan, and the Nazi imagery, some of the verbiage which was particularly on the Nazi picture, also the Confederate battle flag, means that law enforcement has more work to go,” U.S. Attorney William Hochul told TWC News.

    He was pretty clearly lying when he said he was just going to blow up some trees. You don’t pack your bombs with nails and ball bearings to clear brush. If I lived in Niagara County I’d be concerned about the stepfather. They shared the home so it’s reasonable to believe they shared at least some aspects of the philosophy. Seems to me that the stepfather had to have been aware of the bomb making. So Niagara Co. residents now know that a violence-prone white supremacist chairs their county government. Hope they’re having elections soon.

      Yup. Blowing up stumps takes dynamite, and little else. You don’t ‘make a bomb’ to do that.

    White supremacist leader of the county legislature needs to be investigated as well. This did not happen in a vacuum filled with tree stumps.
