Rand: Trump Rise Means ‘Loss Of Sanity’

Posted by | July 30, 2015 22:00 | Filed under: Politics

Rand Paul, talking to Wolf Blitzer, weighed in on why Donald Trump is polling so well.

“I think this is a temporary sort of loss of sanity, but we’re going to come back to our senses and look for someone serious to lead the country at some point,” Paul told CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer on his show, when asked about a new national poll showing Trump still atop the crowded GOP field.

Paul pointed to the extensive media coverage of the controversial candidate.

“Television works, Wolf,” said Paul. “If you would give some other candidates time from 8 in the morning to 8 at night, all day long, every day for three weeks, I’m guessing some other candidates might rise as well.”Paul lamented the lack of any network “going gaga” over his own policy ideas, including a recently unveiled tax plan.

Paul had previously criticized Trump’s coverage, saying that he is getting “a billion dollars worth of free advertising.”

…The Kentucky lawmaker also hit out at the celebrity real estate tycoon’s repeated vow to build a wall along the nation’s southern border to deal with illegal immigration and “have Mexico pay for it.”

“I think simply saying the Mexicans are going to pay for it … we’re not going to fix the national debt by saying the Mexicans will pay for it,” Paul said, calling for more serious proposals.

Rand is shocked to find out that the Republican Party has become reduced to a cadre of lunatics, racists, and theocrats. Wake up and smell the stench.

If you encourage a carnival barker to run the show, it should come as no surprise that people will regard the GOP primary campaign as a traveling circus.

Yes, THIS is your party, Randy. These are the people you are trying to attract to your campaign.

Yes, your party is truly insane. You fed and watered it. Now you have to court it.

He’s always been more libertarian than Republican. He just knows the system is set up on 2 parties, and he has to deal with that.

I wouldn’t know. Haven’t watched him. Anybody who goes to the extreme of wanting the government to force things upon its citizenry, rather than living in peace along side neighbors with different beliefs, is totalitarian, and not tolerant. Governmental extremism tends to be bad, no matter what (yes, even extreme libertarianism, which would likely be so close to anarchy that you wouldn’t be able to easily tell the difference).

    • Johnst August 2nd, 2015 at 14:36

Yes, quite a lot of today’s “conservatives” are permanently stupid.

  13. illinoisboy1977 July 31st, 2015 at 10:09

Yes, Rand. The best way to get people to vote for you, if you get the nomination, is to call them crazy, now. Are you serious? Many of those current Trump supporters are behind Trump because they’re tired of the establishment candidates, both Democrat AND Republican. By minimizing them and calling them names, you’re pretty much guaranteeing that they WON’T vote for you. They may just choose to stay home and not vote for ANYONE. If you want someone’s vote, you DO NOT insult them!

    • Johnst August 2nd, 2015 at 14:35

Actually I think most of the people behind Trump are the exact definition of “Low information voters”… I would like to give a 20 question basic test on current events and American history… I’d bet over 1/2 of them wouldn’t even get 10 correct. I’d make that bet in a heartbeat..

      • illinoisboy1977 August 3rd, 2015 at 12:38

Voting tests are a violation of the Civil Rights Act. :-)

    • jasperjava August 2nd, 2015 at 15:16

Anyone who is thinking of voting for Trump is obviously too deranged, ignorant, or stupid to exercise the right to vote responsibly. It would be better if these people stayed home to watch their favorite “reality” shows.

      • illinoisboy1977 August 3rd, 2015 at 12:37

You’re entitled to your opinion. I disagree with your estimation of a Trump voter’s intelligence, though. If they believe Trump is the better candidate and they vote for him, they ARE exercising their right to vote responsibly. We vote for who we think is best for the country, not who OTHERS think is best for the country. I’ll look at the candidates as a whole, look at their policy ideas, look at the feasibility of their proposals, see what lies they’ve been caught in, see how they treat people in general and how they treat members of the press, particularly. Then, I’ll make my determination. If I think Trump is the better choice, I’ll vote for him. If I think Sanders, Clintion, or whoever gets the Democratic nomination is the better choice, that’s who I’ll vote for. I don’t consider that to be irresponible or unintelligent. I sure as hell won’t vote for someone who calls the voting public “crazy” or “stupid”.

        • jasperjava August 3rd, 2015 at 18:25

“If I think Trump is the better choice, I’ll vote for him.”

I’m sorry, but anyone who even considers that to be a possibility is seriously deranged. That’s like saying, “I dunno, mebbe that Hitler fellah’s got some good ideas.”

          • illinoisboy1977 August 4th, 2015 at 10:18

You’re seriously comparing Trump, a man with no criminal record and no history of violence, to a man who murdered millions of people? Now, who’s deranged?

            • jasperjava August 4th, 2015 at 10:57

The thought of what an egomaniac like Trump would do with 20,000 nuclear warheads is too chilling to contemplate.

              • illinoisboy1977 August 4th, 2015 at 12:11

The President can’t unilaterally launch a nuclear strike. He has to input 3 codes: One from himself and two more from high-level military or cabinet members. If he’s going to launch without justification, I doubt very much that two other code holders will capitulate. Anyway, I don’t see Trump launching an unprovoked nuclear strike. Preemptive traditional military action against a foreign threat to American interests, yes. But, not a nuclear strike.
