63% Oppose Defunding Planned Parenthood

Posted by | July 30, 2015 07:00 | Filed under: Politics

A large majority of Americans don’t want the government to defund Planned Parenthood.

The poll was commissioned by Planned Parenthood and conducted by Hart Research Associates, a liberal think tank based in Washington, D.C. In terms of ideologies, 68 percent of political independents oppose any financial cuts to the organization. Despite Republican lawmakers leading the charge to defund Planned Parenthood, 53 percent of Republican voters oppose defunding the group, The Hill reported.

Voters would also back a candidate who did not support the defunding of Planned Parenthood over one that did by 58 to 26 percent. In terms of the controversial videos, 52 percent of respondents believe Planned Parenthood over the Center For Medical Progress, the conservative group that filmed and posted the videos online.

christian today did their own poll, 52% of people believe that PP is necessary and should not be defunded, no “liberals” were polled. This is another power struggle by the theocrats to impose their beliefs on others.

      THWACKY DOO TWO PIQUE TA’

    • John Tarter July 30th, 2015 at 08:23

And you want to impose YOUR abortion belief’s on others by the continuing infusion of Federal money. Fully 37% of the people oppose this, so at the very least 37% of the money now going to this heinous organization should be taken away. That would only be fair, right?

      • tracey marie July 30th, 2015 at 08:26

stop whining and be thankful many diseases are cured and contained. the majority disagrees with your bellowing

        • John Tarter July 30th, 2015 at 08:50

So how about society ends YOUR life in order to save other lives. Would you be on board for that one?

If you had any intelligence you would see that the Tea Party/Republican Christians are doing everything they can to SHOVE their Control and Rule ideas Down Every ones throats. The Left leaning people are only giving People a CHOICE if they want it !

      • Robert Kennedy July 30th, 2015 at 11:49

Nobody is in favor of saying you have to get an abortion you incredibly ignorant waste of protoplasm. The only ones forcing their beliefs on others are CONservatives.

      • whatthe46 July 30th, 2015 at 12:00

do you know the difference between “choice” and being “forced?”

      • Red Mann July 30th, 2015 at 12:47

John, by law, no federal money can be used to fund abortions except for certain cases – incest, rape, or to save the life of the mother. See the Hyde Amendment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyde_Amendment.
Only 3% of PP activity involves legal abortions and none of that is taxpayer funded unless it meets the criteria above.
Many people oppose abortions as a result of the distortions perpetrated by the forced-birthers.

      • bpollen July 30th, 2015 at 15:41

So you want to remove 37% of the federal money that is going to the 97% of Planned Parenthood’s non-abortion related healthcare?

You, sir (and I use the appellation loosely,) are part of the reason why this country can NOT be exceptional. Hatred and angstrom-deep thinking is hardly a recipe for sucess.

      • StoneyCurtisll July 31st, 2015 at 04:41

If you dont like abortion, dont get one.

    • blockpasser July 30th, 2015 at 10:00

If the poll is true, it is really sad what we as a nation have become. It’s time to start teaching the Bible in schools again so people have some sense of the difference between right and wrong.

No, it’s not. Keep your fairy tales out of my schools.

        • blockpasser July 31st, 2015 at 14:35

They’re not “your schools”. They’re public schools.

          • eaglesfanintn July 31st, 2015 at 15:09

They’re not your schools either, idiot. Ergo, no place for your religion.

          • Scott Smith July 31st, 2015 at 15:15

You’re so stupid. If they’re public schools, they are no place for your religion. Publicly funded = no religion. Read 1st amendment and all applicable case law then get back to us.

            • blockpasser July 31st, 2015 at 15:19

It’s freedom of religion, not freedom FROM religion. We’re reaching the point where liberals can mount a successful defense of cannibalism and you say we’ve evolved to understand morality.

              • Scott Smith July 31st, 2015 at 15:22

Again, read applicable case laws and then come back to me. I assume you can read. Perhaps I shouldn’t. They’re not your schools either, tool. And they shouldn’t be infested with your fairy tales.

                • blockpasser July 31st, 2015 at 15:43

We’ve had a century of moral depravity, economic terrorism, and generational theft perpetrated as a result of democrat party/RINO policy commensurate with the unchecked expansion of government. Where/how do liberals learn about morality?

                  • Scott Smith July 31st, 2015 at 17:10

Why do you need fear of a magic sky daddy to keep your immorality in check? Religion is the opiate of the masses. Your sky daddy is no more real than the sky daddy of the Jews or the Muslims and certainly no more real than the sky daddies of the ancient Greeks, Romans or Egyptians.
Come back when you have something other than reich wing talking points. I tire of your fact free arguments.

                    • blockpasser August 2nd, 2015 at 01:03

I don’t fear a magic sky daddy. I fear a society that tolerates violation of civil and moral law. No amount of police, military, jails, or fences and walls can protect people living in such a society.

                    • Scott Smith August 3rd, 2015 at 16:12

Yawn – I tire of your stupidity. As one of my favorite bands would sing, “just make sure I’m around when you’ve finally got something to say.”

            • blockpasser August 2nd, 2015 at 00:56

Let me get this straight. The Bible has no place in public schools but environmental blasphemy, communism, same-sex marriage and cross-dressing do?

              • Scott Smith August 3rd, 2015 at 16:11

LOL – You really are an idiot. Take your faux outrage and idiotic talking points elsewhere. May I suggest Breitbart?

      • Dwendt44 July 31st, 2015 at 01:12

You don’t need the bible to know right from wrong. That said, what exactly does the bible say about abortion? I’ve been looking and can’t find a word about it. ‘Course it doesn’t say a word about medical research either, so we should go back to praying for the sick and letting them die.

        • blockpasser July 31st, 2015 at 14:35

Right. No wonder you would defend somebody discussing the fee for selling dismembered baby parts under the table to pay for a Lamborghini is perfectly moral.

      • StoneyCurtisll July 31st, 2015 at 04:38

Your book of bronze age mythology has no place in public schools…
If you want want to worship make believe deities, go to the church of your choice.

        • blockpasser July 31st, 2015 at 14:40

Let’s create an obamacare exchange for car insurance and legalize medical methamphetamine next. Free housing too. It’s pretty clear democrat party and RINOs need to double down on homosexual rights and communist redistribution to administer social justice, the administration of which should be done by a camarilla of ivy league liberal quakademics. While we’re at it, let’s extend the 14th amendment to recognize marriages between brother and sister, mother and son, father and daughter, and people and their pets. Wouldn’t want to appear bigoted or phobic.

          • StoneyCurtisll August 1st, 2015 at 19:27

Methamphetamine is and has been a legal medical drug for decades..

Completely agree, but these cruz and rumpster types are not any more of a republican than I am. They are in politics simply for self-promotion. I like choices and I believe a balanced government is a healthy government, but these nuts provide no benefit to anyone but themselves.

    • John Tarter July 30th, 2015 at 08:47

Once again we see how some must give up their lives to “save” others, with this decision made by the liberal left of course. You people did the same thing with the ACA, removing health care plans from one part of the population who liked the coverage they had in order to give health care to the part of the population the liberal left wanted covered with a one size fit’s all plan.

      • tracey marie July 30th, 2015 at 08:48

I want my opinion and desires to be respected by the Federal government. Now that the majority is down to 52% in favor then funding needs to be reduced by 48%. That would only be fair and wouldn’t that be in accordance with the Democratic way that you always go on about?

If that were the case, then the military should be cut by 87%. We would still be the biggest military spenders in the world. And things that are misunderstood by the general public, (or the buck private public like you) shouldn’t have any effect on policy. But if we were to operate like that the red states should be cut off because they are the takers and the blue states should be boosted because they are the givers. Then everything would be done as liberal operations and the country would do far better than we are.

        • jasperjava July 30th, 2015 at 12:06

        • eaglesfanintn July 30th, 2015 at 17:22

I bet I could find 10-20% of the country that want defense spending decreased, so I guess I should expect that cut in the next budget. Also, bet I could find 10-20% that want Medicare funding increased. I’m sure the teatards in the House will get right on that.
          That is your logic, right?

          • John Tarter July 30th, 2015 at 23:54

That is the logic of liberals who think we live in a democracy. We don’t. So let’s just defund Planned Parenthood as funding this vile private organization with taxpayer dollars is not warranted by the U.S. Constitution.

            • eaglesfanintn July 31st, 2015 at 15:12

Obviously, returning a child to the country of origin involves a back-and-forth between the government of this country and the government of the child’s country of origin, in order to facilitate the process and insure that it is done safely.

Jesus Christ, John. Next stop, rocket science.

        • The Original Just Me July 31st, 2015 at 19:00

It is a child. That means it is a young Human being. I fully realize that you were never a child as most children are human beings. Human beings grow up and they DO CARE about other human beings and they especially care about the young and innocent children. That being a TRUE FACT, you display a no emotion and no concern for human beings. Therefore you do not display any characteristics of a human being. You live in a false world that is horribly against people making their own choices and decisions about their own bodies but you would condemn a young child to a certain death.

What does the “GOPee on the People” care about what the people want. It’s still their way or the To Hell with You Highway.

    • Red Mann July 30th, 2015 at 12:49

      GOP = God’s Own Party.

      • The Original Just Me July 31st, 2015 at 06:17

And the Big Guy in the Sky ain’t been heard from for some time now. He must be hiding his head in shame because of what the Christians are doing to HIS Religion.

Confusing the issue with facts ,,, GOP thinks that is unethical

Just? I thought it started down that path back with Tricky Dicky.

      • The Original Just Me July 30th, 2015 at 20:51

Actually, I think it started with the next one up. Gerald ” Who Me ” Ford.

        • Red Mann July 30th, 2015 at 23:20

You’re right, they started working their slimy way into national politics that blossomed into the misnamed “Moral Majority” followed by the ill begotten “Christian Coalition”. Then Ronnie opened wide the door through the Wall of Separation and things have gone down hill from there.

          • John Tarter July 30th, 2015 at 23:48

Just where is this “wall of separation” listed? Certainly not in the US Constitution as the first Amendment only prohibits the establishment of a national religion while at the same time it upholds the right of citizens to practice and live their faith anywhere in the public sphere.

            • Dwendt44 July 31st, 2015 at 01:04

The principle is right there in the First Amendment. Not that you care. Our Founding Fathers said what they meant and that was to erect a wall of Separation of Church and State. The Supremes agreed. It’s that law of the land even if the current conservative Court ignores it.

            • The Original Just Me July 31st, 2015 at 06:14

When you are so stupid, that you can not understand what you are reading, your name is John Tarter.

            • Red Mann July 31st, 2015 at 14:08

No, that is not the intent of the 1st Amendment. The Framers clearly meant to keep religion out of government as well as government out of religion. They were much closer to the atrocities that invariably follow when religion has undue influence on government. They deliberately set up our government to be strictly secular.
BTW the “doesn’t say that” argument is childishly stupid and shows a total lack of comprehension.

          • The Original Just Me July 31st, 2015 at 06:32

I do believe that there is a force that has worked it’s way into the Republican Party. These people’s views and goals are VERY Dangerous. It is only the sleeping Democrat Party that has any chance of stopping this again as these people are from an earlier time in our history.

    • The Original Just Me July 30th, 2015 at 20:50

      I think he’s my brother.

  10. Bunya July 30th, 2015 at 13:39

The 53% who oppose funding Planned Parenthood are the first to complain about the increase in STD’s and unwed mothers collecting welfare. Also, in an overpopulated, underfed world, the same 53% are part of the problem.

  11. Jeffrey Samuels July 30th, 2015 at 14:14

First of all, the poll was from a liberal think tank, so no conservative will buy into it because they will claim its biased. Secondly, what makes anyone think that any poll showing a majority support planned parenthood will have any effect on the conservatives in congress, even if they believed it?

    • cecilia July 30th, 2015 at 19:03

maybe people will get off their asses and realize they have to VOTE out these scumbags?

    • CgntvDssdnt July 30th, 2015 at 21:14

The news could have come from Rasmussen or Fox and the Fundies would react the same. And their reps in Congess.

These are zealots we are dealing with here. That’s why we are see domestic terrorism from them.

  12. SkeeterVT July 31st, 2015 at 02:23

Regardless of this poll’s results, the fact remains that more than 40 years after Roe v. Wade, there continues to be a sizeable and fierce opposition to women’s right to reproductive freedom in this country.

What’s not being said about this attempt by congressional Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood is the fact that their attempt is an unconstitutional “bill of attainder” — an act of a legislature — in this case, Congress — declaring a person or group of persons guilty of some crime and punishing them without a trial.

Defunding Planned Parenhood clearly constitutes such an act. That is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN by Article I, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution: “”No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.”

This is not the first time that the Republican-controlled Congress has resorted to such acts. It last did so against ACORN. ACORN sued Congress in federal court, but its subsequent bankruptcy and ceasing of its operations rendered ACORN’s lawsuit moot.

Not so with Planned Parenthood, which should “lawyer up” — fast..

  13. StoneyCurtisll July 31st, 2015 at 04:05

A 63% majority opinion is meaningless to the right wing Christian crusaders in congress…
They dont give a damn what anyone thinks, they are gonna shove their mythology down your throat, and you better not complain..
Cause Jeezus is coming, and the end times are upon us~!

    • The Original Just Me July 31st, 2015 at 06:10

The Tea Party/Republicans want to shove everything Their Way down every bodies throats. The Left leaning people just wan to give the folks a choice of doing it their way. As for the Big Dude coming around again, I’ve heard and read this Religious Scare Crap my whole life. You can only be told something so many times and when it doesn’t happen you start to doubt the messenger.

“Planned Parenthood is selling aborted baby parts for profit”!!..

How f-ing stupid does one have to be to believe this crap?..(as stupid as a republican voter)

    • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:06

I never said profit. please reread my opinion before you comment

    • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:12

Im not a Republican voter but i do believe this skewed information came from the republican media. again i never said they were selling anything. spend some time and read my original post

  15. geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 18:07

I recently saw a news report on CNN, that said.
Money going to planned parenthood is used for abortions, birth control and helpful things for the welfare of pregnant mothers who wish to conceive the baby.
The part that was disgusting was they explained the method that was used to abort children some of the time, it went as follows,
The unborn was rotated into a position feet first, as most children present themselves in the woman headfirst in the birth canal. The legs were removed then the baby was harvested for its organs, IE: liver , Etc. After getting as many organs as possible the head of the unborn was crushed….. Disgusting. IF, and I do use the word IF this is true. NO MORE MONEY SHOULD GO TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD, in my opinion. The fetus can be anywhere from 12 weeks to 24 weeks old, depending on the state. Do you know if this child can feel pain? I would not allow this procedure to happen to my dogs unborn. Let alone a child. I will not endeavor to give my feelings about religion cloud this opinion of mine.
NOT ONE RED CENT, If this is true

    • allison1050 July 31st, 2015 at 19:23

I’ve got a wild idea for you why don’t YOU do some research on the subject of whether or not a 12-24 wk. old fetus can feel pain or better yet ask an ob-gyn.

      • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:08

There is no wild idea and ob- gyn depending on which one, you speak to have interesting opinions. I do have 3 children.

        • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:09

Or maybe you do have a WILD idea. tell me what you mean

        • Obewon July 31st, 2015 at 20:10

Your “Breitbarted” post falsely claimed the still standing Hyde ammendment funds abortions by taxpayers. What a shithead you are.

          • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:15

It was a CNN program. as i originally stated in my post. why are so many reacting to what i said i saw and not really reading my original post. Do not resort to foul language as it reflects on you in a negative light

            • Obewon July 31st, 2015 at 20:16

              You’re a debunked liar.

              • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:19

Sorry you feel that way but many scientists are not sure when a fetus feels pain. Google it. Im not lying about anything, but to humor you what am i lying about?

              • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:22

thank you for your very informed answer. oh thats right you did not answer

          /

  16. geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:25

You do all realize this poll was funded by Planned Parenthood

    • Obewon July 31st, 2015 at 20:28

Statistical scientific polls, aren’t like your debunked unscientific Breitbart opinion surveys.

      • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:35

Absolutely I agree. One again you refuse to quote an independent study on fetuses and when they feel pain. they suck their thumb and respond to all sorts of external stimuli. so how are you sure they feel no pain when aborted. also when do the become people as in my eldest who had a miscarriage, that lived. it was only 12 weeks old. this child is alive today, with many medical problems due to the early age of miscarriage. but it seems it was a PERSON at 12 weeks old.

        • Obewon July 31st, 2015 at 20:40

Mr. and Mrs. Rick Santorum’s approval of their “Pitocin” induced abortion at 22.5 weeks debunks your RWNJ crazy delusions. They tortured the fetus until it died 45 minutes later.

No fetus brain is developed to feel pain until SCOTUS “viability” at 28 weeks.

          • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:42

that an opinion of one not all. but im not famiilar with your posting information at all

            • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:46

i just researched your reference to scotus. very interesting group of scientists. the supreme court was considering a challenge to roe vs wade. no scientific based information. this was also a court ruling of justices using the information presented to them by the person arguing the roe vs wade decision

              • geo gro July 31st, 2015 at 20:47

your just arguing with no scientific references

            • Obewon July 31st, 2015 at 20:47

              That’s “Peer reviewed” Medical science.

“Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco reviewed dozens of studies and medical reports and said the data indicate that fetuses likely are incapable of feeling pain until around the seventh month of pregnancy, when they are about 28 weeks old.”-JAMA Peer Reviewed Science. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/9053416/ns/health-womens_health/t/study-fetus-feels-no-pain-until-third-trimester/#.VbwWEPlViko “Even after 24 weeks, the doctors in (A British) study say there is increasing evidence that the fetus is in a state of “continuous sleep-like unconsciousness or sedation.” “
