‘Veterans For Trump’ Members Say They Know Nothing About Group

Posted by | July 25, 2015 15:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Several veterans named as part of “Veterans for Trump”, formed after his incendiary remarks about John McCain, say they know nothing about the group.

A number of people were named as members of “Veterans for Trump” on Trump’s election website. “These veterans have pledged their support to Mr Trump in the primary, and they will be advocating for him,” a press release said.

But when the Guardian contacted several claimed Veterans for Trump members on Friday, three said they had never heard of the organisation and had not signed up as members.

“I don’t know anything about it,” said Ernie Fusi, an 88-year-old second world war veteran from Atkinson, New Hampshire. His name was among 51 “Veterans for Trump” whose details were sent out to the media and listed on Trump’s website.

“I haven’t told anyone I want to get in on that,” Fusi said. “I’m not going to do any campaigning.”

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Fusi said he was a Republican voter, although he had not gone to any meetings or speeches in this election cycle. He said he would not vote in the primary but would vote for whichever GOP candidate ran in the presidential election. He was unhappy about being named as a coalition member.

“I don’t like it,” he said. “’Cause I haven’t given anyone permission to send my name around.”

Donald Richards, a veteran based in Laconia, New Hampshire, was also named on the list of Veterans for Trump members along with his wife, Connie Richards. He said neither had signed up for the group.

“I’m not a member of the campaign, no,” he said. “I have no connection any more than anybody else does to him.”

If you need fans or followers why do it the hard way, just sign some up. They don’t need to know, it’s a GOP contender, anything goes.

It would have been more effective if they had just made up some names. Then no one would know they don’t exist. Every new thing we find out about this guy is sleazier than the last. Why would anyone with an ounce of self respect still support this f*cker?

      • whatthe46 July 25th, 2015 at 19:12

’cause they don’t have an ounce of self respect would be my guess.

No surprise, Trump actually had to hire fake supporters for his launch a few weeks ago.

His ACTUAL supporters are probably inbred rednecks who are too embarrassing to
    show in public.

    • whatthe46 July 25th, 2015 at 19:11

“His ACTUAL supporters are probably inbred rednecks…” and he knows this and are glad they don’t show up. each with 1 tooth and wearing confederate rags.

I was on Politico and a gentleman name Patriot Force told me that 85% of the military hates liberals, so i am not surprised at this at all! Was McCain wrong in calling Trumps crowds “crazies”?!

    • StoneyCurtisll July 25th, 2015 at 19:54

      Politico can warp your mind…
      Not the site..
But the insane people that are allowed to comment there..:)

      • Tommie July 25th, 2015 at 20:21

When i started going there the comments would come so fast you barely have enough time to get your thoughts together but i got better at responding on that site!

        • Hirightnow July 25th, 2015 at 20:41

That site, and MediaMatters, are great for when you’re “in the zone”…because the trolling flows thick and fast, and you’ll end up 100 posts behind just trying to think up a novel way to point out someone’s idiocy.

          • Tommie July 26th, 2015 at 02:17

Damn it, you hit it right on the head, a couple times i forgot what i was typing trying to keep up with the hate!! HAHAH!

  10. Hirightnow July 25th, 2015 at 20:35

Well, for an imaginary campaign, what more could you ask for than imaginary supporters?
(Just to ask,is it proper grammar to use “an” when the descriptive adjective starts with a vowel, but not the subject noun, or vice-verse? I get lost, and “He’s an complete idiot” never sounds right…nor does “What a idiotic notion.”)

    • Jack E Raynbeau July 25th, 2015 at 21:02

Use a when the word that follows starts with a consonant sound and an when that word starts with a vowel sound.

    • bpollen July 25th, 2015 at 21:33

The problem with strictly following the rule is you end up with combinations like “an unicorn” or “an union-worker.”

Grammatically correct according to the general rule, but just sound wrong.

      • Hirightnow July 25th, 2015 at 21:50

Exactly mine problem; when doth it become proper to refer to some poster upon Brietbart as ” a uneducated arsehole”?

        • bpollen July 25th, 2015 at 21:53

I would say “an uneducated arsehole” because it sounds right to me.

          • Hirightnow July 25th, 2015 at 22:03

In truth, I agree with the answer that you have done me the honor of providing. But, and this point cannot be over-stressed, there are some (and, let it be known that we are assiduously not amongst their number) who would give argument to the point you have so eloquently made.
It is those very individuals,I hope you will understand me thoroughly, that cause me such distress as I have previously made mention.

            • Hirightnow July 25th, 2015 at 22:08

              (Sorry…I’ve been re-reading Brust lately…)

The rule is that “an” should be used when the next word begins with a vowel sound. This is important to remember because some words that begin with vowel letters do not begin with vowel sounds.

      Here’s some examples:
      That is an antique.
      He has an ear infection.
This is an item from the new retailer.
      It’s an over-the-top suggestion.

      Exceptions
That’s an unusual suggestion. (short u)
      It’s an undeveloped area.

The animal in the picture is a unicorn. (long u)
We have a universal agreement in our neighborhood to use Confederate flags for bird cage liners.

Words that begin with the letter “H” can also be difficult for some. If a word that begins with an “H” has the first syllable stressed (hummingbird, hotel, harmony, happy, healthy, etc.) then you should use “a”. When the first syllable is not stressed (historical) or the “h” is silent (herb), then you should us “an”.

Most of the English teachers I’ve known (I’ve been a teacher since retiring from the military) have said that grammar rules are thrown out when breaking the rules makes something easier to say. This is true in many languages. So if you have trouble using an article, try using its alternate and don’t worry about grammar rules. I tell my students that saying something smoothly allows faster communication can often be better than being overly concerned with a grammar point that causes you to stumble in mid-sentence. That causes an interruption in the thought processes with both the speaker and the listener.
