WSJ: Conservative Media That Promoted Trump Hurting The Cause

Posted by | July 19, 2015 23:00 | Filed under: Media/Show Business News Behaving Badly Politics

It’s interesting that this comes from the conservative Wall Street Journal.

The question now is how long his political and media apologists on the right will keep pretending he’s a serious candidate…

…note the silence of Ted Cruz, who declined to criticize Mr. Trump because he said the media enjoy such intra-Republican fights. Mr. Cruz has recently released a book whose main theme is an attack on other Republicans. It’s central to his campaign strategy. The Texas Senator must be hoping to inherit Trump voters once the casino magnate flames out, but he’s revealing his own lack of political character.

As for conservative media elites, too many have adopted the view that there can be no adversary to their right. This was mainly a left-wing affliction in the last century as many liberals refused to condemn Communists. But today many on the right seem willing to indulge any populist outburst no matter how divorced from reality or insulting to most Americans. If Donald Trump becomes the voice of conservatives, conservatism will implode along with him.

All the candidates on the right sound the same, they hate then back pedal then hate again. The strategy of stirring the crazies into a frothy mess will work out the same it did for santorum the frothy

They have almost pulled a full 360, their next target is fat, old, white men.

Take one, you earn sick days for a reason. No, don’t listen to me, I am like the little devil that sits on your shoulder and will tell you to do the wrong stuff. You are there so just finish, the hardest part of work for me is just getting myself to show up, the rest is easy.

Saint Reagan is old news. And besides, he granted amnesty to immigrants.

    • katkelly57 July 20th, 2015 at 02:21

      It died with him.

  3. Dwendt44 July 19th, 2015 at 23:34

Trump speaks to a faction of the wacky right that others tend to ignore. The faction that hates Mexicans, and other illegals, if not all immigrants. It’s a popular message that’s getting traction even with some of the ‘not so crazy’ Republicans. Ann Coulter is on board, though she’s as crazy as ever. IF it fads, Trump is gone, IF it doesn’t he’ll be around for a long while.

I’ll be an interesting 16 months.

It will be interesting to see who will be the lessor of the evils in that Goofy Old Party come convention time.

News Corp played the role of Dr. Frankenstein, and Trump is its out-of-control monster.

  5. greenfloyd July 20th, 2015 at 00:22

It’s not only “conservative” media, is it Alan?

At this time of the first 10 stories in the LL queue the name “Trump” appears in the headline 5 times.

The difference is that the WSJ hopes that Breitbart, Stormfront, Fox, et al will stop rooting for him. Liberals would be delighted to see him get the nomination.

      • greenfloyd July 20th, 2015 at 07:39

I guess one could say there’s a bright spot in all this… We finally have bipartisan agreement on something! :)

  6. robert July 20th, 2015 at 00:25

science fiction has the Frankenstein monster and the gop has Trump

both have no idea what they created or how to get rid of them

    • katkelly57 July 20th, 2015 at 02:18

It’s all that friggin’ Igor’s fault.

  7. katkelly57 July 20th, 2015 at 02:17

“but he’s revealing his own lack of political character.”
    Cruz has or had character?!?!??

C’mon already…I only have two legs that can be pulled…now you’re trying to yank on both of them at the same time….sheesh!

    • jasperjava July 20th, 2015 at 11:11

      Hence the words “lack of”.

  8. greenfloyd July 20th, 2015 at 02:36

Suddenly the political establishment is beside itself … “Unfit!” Well? Duh!

Nonetheless Trump has actually drawn blood and in his clumsy, disrespectful way, has actually spoken a little truth to big power going after Sen. McCain, the establishment’s grandpa. Trump is still the most entertaining candidate of all. Each time I ask myself, “Who’s next on Trump’s personal hit-list?” and I just can’t wait to see. I only hope they don’t cancel the Trump show too soon, I just opened a new can of popcorn.

One might expect after this WSJ lashing most media might start their own Trump Boycott. We’ll see.

Be careful of what you wish for..

  10. Foundryman July 20th, 2015 at 11:14

The Trump monster was created by the republican candidates themselves who ran to him and kissed his ring and groveled at his feet during the last election. Almost every one of them paid Trump a visit. Once you legitimize a crackpot, you own that crackpot.

  11. tracey marie July 20th, 2015 at 13:45

When the right talks about their goals it is called a “cause”, when they talk about the Lefts goals it is called a shove it down our throats” agenda”.

    • cwazycajun July 21st, 2015 at 11:06

hahahah shove it down your throats may yall have a fixation on things going down your throats and you call yourselves anti gay…..lol snark off

  12. Pearl Polanski July 20th, 2015 at 18:38

Ted Cruz is hoping to be Trump’s running mate. Trump mentioned Cruz as a person of interest for that. Since then, Cruz has been kissing his behind.

    • Dwendt44 July 21st, 2015 at 12:31

Cruz hopes to inherit Trumps followers once Trump implodes.

      • Pearl Polanski July 21st, 2015 at 17:28

True, but unless Trump gets abducted by aliens, he’s going to run. He doesn’t care if the GOP nominates him. He’ll run on his own ticket.
