Texas Violating Constitution By Refusing Birth Certificates To Children Of Immigrants

Ah, Texas. Perhaps the only state in the country that, from time to time, contemplates leaving the union and becoming an independent nation, even though that isn’t even allowed under the U.S. Constitution. As I recall, it’s kinda what helped start the Civil War.

But Texas right-wingers love to pay lip service to what is and what isn’t Constitutional; yet, at the same time, they decide to openly flaunt their own responsibilities under the same document they claim to hold so dear.

A perfect example of this is currently taking place in the Lone Star State. The Texas Department of State Health Services is refusing to  issue birth certificates to babies born of immigrants or of people who don’t have sufficient IDs. This is in direct violation of the 14th Amendment, which states:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside….READ MORE at  LiberalAmerica.org

    Yeah, they seem t think the part about “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” excludes Mexicans cuz….Murika…So I asked a guy who had 25 posts saying that on Red State “can Mexicans be arrested…”?? which he replied in the affirmative and said we should “arrest em all”…I asked him to think about that for a minute….he asked “why”?

    My sister works at U of A Hospital in Tucson, and they get thousands of Mexican women every year having their babies their. Every one of them gets a birth certificate. I hope the taxpayers of Texas are paying attention, and when they lose the lawsuit and have to pay millions in damages, they dump the officials responsible out on their a$$es. Think of how many creationist textbooks all that money could buy.

          According to the Constitution, anyone born on U.S. owned soil is a citizen no matter what or where the parents are. So, yes the census should count them and they are citizens. But their parents may not be counted as citizens.

    Todays Texans seem to forget that Texas was stolen from Mexico…(through acts of war)
    And they wonder why so many people speak Spanish there.

      they know why, they don’t care why. my question is, what about families that visit here from other countries, including those from Mexico on visas, vacations or transfer students. if they should give birth here are they not allowed (in texas) to receive a b.c. besides, what in the living fk will they be given? just a piece of paper that says, “d.o.b., and who gives a shit where?”

      i get that, but, i bet you they make them go through hoops. is it really worth it? what if you loose your papers? no one should have to wonder if they get a birth certificate for their baby because of ignorance and hatred.

      stoney. do you think they even thought that far ahead. oh shit, why did i just use any word associated with “brain functions?” um, how about (damn i can’t make any analogy without “thought process” in it. so, i have no choice but to say it. what about losing revenue? people that want to visit our country who may not be about to give birth, but give early, should not visit texass. anyone wanting to come to our country on a school visa, should not attend texass schools, just in case. cause your baby will be considered a countryless (my word) bastard baby!
