Any time the phrase “for anyone who may have been offended” is included, that’s your standard non-apology apology. A real apology goes like this: I’m sorry. No “if.” “If” implies doubt. There is no doubt that people were offended.

In using the phrase “Apologies for those who were offended–”, he’s actually ramped it up a notch. He’s not saying that he regrets his ill-considered comment, he’s saying that he regrets the existence of the people offended by it.

      Stay classy, dummy.
