Santorum Warns Voters About Walkers’s Wife

Posted by | July 14, 2015 21:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Going after the wife of a rival candidate is not nice. Rick Santorum is using Scott Walker’s wife’s stance for gay marriage against the Wisconsin governor.

Santorum took a swipe at Scott Walker on Monday, suggesting that because Walker’s wife is not outspoken against same-sex marriage, the Wisconsin governor would make a weak Republican candidate on the issue.

“Spouses matter,” Santorum said in an interview with the Daily Caller Monday. “When your spouse is not in-sync with you — particularly on cultural issues, moral issues — [you] tend not to be as active on those issues.”

Santorum’s came in response to recent comments from Wisconsin’s first lady in an interview with The Washington Post.

Tonette Walker told the paper that her husband’s response to the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage decision — calling for a constitutional amendment allowing states to define marriage how they see fit — was a hard one for her family, since both of the couple’s sons are in favor of allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry.

“Our sons were very disappointed,” she said. “I was torn. I have children who are very passionate [in favor of same-sex marriage], and Scott was on his side very passionate.”

…Gov. Walker told the Post that his wife and sons’ view “doesn’t mean I change my position,” but rather that he might try “finding a different way of explaining it, so they can appreciate where I am coming from.”

Projecting! Anti-choice Ricky approved Mrs. Santorum’s late term abortion at 22 weeks. “Spouses matter,” Santorum said in an interview with the Daily Caller Monday. “When your spouse is not in-sync with you — particularly on cultural issues, moral issues — [you] tend not to be as active on those issues.”-“Smell the Santorum” hypocrite.

frothy has stepped over the line, well all the right has with their nastiness towards Michele Obama. Let’s talk frothy’s wife

she lived with an older abortion doctor, she had an abortion because he did not want kids, she then had a late term abortion because the fetus was dying and so was she…but it is okay for them, the frothy family.

    • StoneyCurtisll July 14th, 2015 at 21:19

      “Frothy’…:)

    • Tommie July 15th, 2015 at 00:23

  5. AnthonyLook July 14th, 2015 at 21:33

I object to Lindsey Grahams wife. She’s so sly, cagy and silent about matters we don’t know where she stands on the issues, she’s practically invisible.

    • whatthe46 July 14th, 2015 at 21:37

      nice one Anthony!

      • AnthonyLook July 14th, 2015 at 21:49

I love messing with Lady Lindsey Antebellum Graham and his hand held fan.

    • Tommie July 15th, 2015 at 00:21

Look at what they did to Michelle Obama, maybe being quiet is a good thing. Nah, just kidding, speak up women, speak up.

      • AnthonyLook July 15th, 2015 at 00:48

Mrs. Obama can handle anything they throw at her, it doesn’t ever phase her; she’s the cement of the Presidents spine; cause she’s got his back. Awesome couple, cool redefined.

        • Tommie July 15th, 2015 at 00:54

I agree, they should know better to mess with a black women! Haha!

          • AnthonyLook July 15th, 2015 at 03:23

Santorum and his spouse differ on issues also, specifically, pain and suffering.

      If they aren’t hypocrites, they aren’t Gopers….

  9. Warman1138 July 14th, 2015 at 22:16

Santorum’s desperation is so very apparent.

  10. Bunya July 14th, 2015 at 23:28

Now I’m not a big fan of Scott Walker, but Rick Santorum throwing stones???? Holy cow! Talk about those who live in glass houses throwing stones, he has more skeletons in his closet than Newt Gingrich.

  11. CandideThirtythree July 14th, 2015 at 23:50

That is not what he was saying, what he was saying is that Walker does not have his wife on a leash like all good republicans should…remember that women are not supposed to talk and certainly if they are going to have opinions then it better be the ones their husbands allow them to have.

  12. Tommie July 15th, 2015 at 00:16

Do i smell blood in the water, since these sharks are going at it!

  13. AnthonyLook July 15th, 2015 at 00:49

I can’t wait till Walker slam him; deservingly so.

    • whatthe46 July 15th, 2015 at 19:32

i’m wondering if the others will as well. i want the to all slam each other, this has been fun.

      • AnthonyLook July 15th, 2015 at 21:09

I suspect the “zinger” from Walker, will come in the future. Not directed at Santorum’s wife; but something will be lobbed their way from the Walker camp. Insofar as others—-no one in the Republican Party defends their subservient second class citizen women/wife as they should. Note- Jeb Bush and his wife of Latin heritage and the tepid response to Trump. If I had been in Bush’s shoes—-Trump would have gotten a mouthful- my wife would not come second to my campaign and certainly my sentiment about Trumps words would have carried some punch.

    • whatthe46 July 15th, 2015 at 19:39

today is Wednesday, he should have by now. well, they are slow, they need “advisors” to tell them what to say and it’s still usually something stupid. like, oh i don’t know, “shut up, i’m tellin’.”

      • AnthonyLook July 15th, 2015 at 21:13

The funny thing, Santorum’s wife has some pretty creepy history stories. That glass house of Santorum is aching for a rock. They are one weird family as a whole.

    • Elliot J. Stamler July 17th, 2015 at 21:39

Wait’ll Trump gets into the debate and see if someone mentions the current (third) Mrs. Trump who is young enough to be Trump’s daughter. I shall not descend to the Republican level by making any comment myself about Mrs. Melania Trump…she is lucky she has now lasted ten years. Oh what a woman must endure she marrys for money!!!!

  14. bpollen July 15th, 2015 at 03:36

Dear God! A woman who thinks for herself? Oh, the shame, the shame…

    • rg9rts July 15th, 2015 at 05:45

Almost…still has to toe the party line…the kids are another matter

  15. Larry Schmitt July 15th, 2015 at 05:26

Read this Dana Milbank column on Santorum. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/rick-santorums-2012-supporters-abandon-him/2015/07/13/637150b6-299b-11e5-a5ea-cf74396e59ec_story.html

    • Elliot J. Stamler July 17th, 2015 at 20:53

We, Elliot, Emperor of the Earth, has just read the Milbank column you refer to dealing with Santorum’s constant use of the royal “we.” Note that We (ourself) use it as an “Imperial” We as WE are an Emperor and not merely a King like Santorum. Having established this, WE banish Santorum from OUR realm of Earth and dispatch him to OUR imperial colony on PLUTO on the next space ship WE send to it.

      • Larry Schmitt July 17th, 2015 at 21:03

You don’t sound any crazier or stupider than he did.

        • whatthe46 July 17th, 2015 at 21:16

          laughing so hard.

        • Elliot J. Stamler July 17th, 2015 at 21:31

Thank you, beloved subject. We may raise you to the peerage.

I always wanted to be the Earl of Nothingham.

  16. rg9rts July 15th, 2015 at 05:44

You know this is going to get really ugly when they start attacking spouses LOL And the gopee says that the dems have a plot to make them look stupid…

    • Dwendt44 July 15th, 2015 at 12:48

BUT they’ve been doing just that against Democrats for several decades now. You’ll recall all the smears and lies about Hillary when Bill Clinton was in office and they’ve been smearing Michelle Obama since The President was the nominee.
It was only a matter of time before they started doing it to each other.

      • rg9rts July 15th, 2015 at 13:13

        Never their own though

      • Robert Kennedy July 15th, 2015 at 19:15

Not to mention Chelsea when she was abut 13.

      • whatthe46 July 15th, 2015 at 19:31

because they’ve run out of shit to attack them on. furthermore, isn’t that the way it will forever be. well, we’ve finished with them, who else can we spew b.s. about? hey each others wives. when that’s not enough, the children, and children not yet born. they are disgusting.

  17. Gindy51 July 15th, 2015 at 06:33

And Spewage’s wife is insane for letting him bring home that dead fetus in a jar to show the live kiddies.

    • tracey marie July 15th, 2015 at 20:55

not in a jar, they made the other kids hold and kiss it.

  18. Anomaly 100 July 15th, 2015 at 08:05

I literally hate Scott Walker – ask him, I tweeted that to him, but going after his wife is ridiculous. I’m the only Dem in my family and there’s no way I’m ever going to be anything except a liberal. Ever

    • AnthonyLook July 17th, 2015 at 22:06

Presidential candidates wives (or husband, depending who’s the candidate) and their children should not be used as pawns, and should be considered off limits in any political campaign (unless said wives {or…} are willing participants by their intentional overt concerted efforts and want to be involved and heard).

      • Anomaly 100 July 18th, 2015 at 06:31

I agree and I hate defending Walker.

        • AnthonyLook July 18th, 2015 at 11:39

You aren’t defending Walker, you’re being honorable to you sensibilities.

  19. joe sanford July 15th, 2015 at 10:26

How can a country that was progressing so well become the home of the ignorant and bigoted? It is the combination of religion and politics and it is destroying a great country. This did not happen overnight. I have watched it progress since the early 50’s. I remember the pastor of our church telling the congregation that the goal was for christianity was to control government. It has done exactly that in y lifetime.

    • illinoisboy1977 July 15th, 2015 at 12:09

Politicians seem to forget about the “separation of church and state”, when they’re pandering to the religious zealots. I don’t want a representative who “votes in accordance with the word of God”. I want a representative who votes in accordance with the laws of the United States of America. Now, if a representative wants to consult with clergy, to reconcile a crisis of faith between what his religion says and what the Constitution requires of him, I have no problem with that, as long as he does his Constitutional duty.

      • Dwendt44 July 15th, 2015 at 19:42

I find myself in the strange dimension where I’ve up voted IB twice now. What the hell is going on?

        • whatthe46 July 17th, 2015 at 13:40

yeah, i upvoted him once. i think he was just having an episode.

      • MerryMarjie July 15th, 2015 at 20:46

        Well said.

    • Savannah Flossie July 17th, 2015 at 13:31

Christian politicians who exploit the Bible for the purpose of hate, discrimination and political manipulation are the worst hypocrites and the most dangerous to our country.

  20. illinoisboy1977 July 15th, 2015 at 12:00

Until very recently, in our nation’s history, homosexual activities were imprisonable offenses. Some people are having a harder time than others, letting go of the old ways of thinking. There was a time when having relations with another man’s wife was a criminal offense and Frank Sinatra even got arrested for it. Now, it’s considered a private matter and no business of anyone, outside the participants and the sleighted spouse. Eventually, people will realize how outdated their way of thinking is and they’ll come around. Or, they’ll be left in the dust with all the other fossils.

    • whatthe46 July 15th, 2015 at 19:26

are you ok? you sound like, you’ve decided to make sense? just askin’

      • Savannah Flossie July 17th, 2015 at 13:23

are you ok? you sound like a jerk. just askin’

    • MerryMarjie July 15th, 2015 at 20:45

We are all saddled to “church laws” whether we like it or not. Sex outside marriage was considered a “sin” and therefore punishable. To this day there are “Blue Laws,” ones that prohibit sales of liquor on Sundays or before noon in some places. If we examine our laws and the justification of imprisonment, there are still so many connected to religion. We need to clear the books of such prohibitions and that will clear the jails.

    • SkeeterVT July 16th, 2015 at 20:57

If my wife and I had married in the South before the Supreme Court’s landmark 1967 “Loving v. Virginia” decision, it’s highly likely that my wife would have been branded a “N—– lover!” and I would have attacked — and maybe killed — by the Ku Klux Klan.

    • Savannah Flossie July 17th, 2015 at 13:22

      Or they’ll all die off.

      • Elliot J. Stamler July 17th, 2015 at 20:48

        Just so, Savannah.

    • Elliot J. Stamler July 17th, 2015 at 20:48

The one point upon which I take strong issue with you is that the red-meat social conservatives will NEVER come around. Totalitarians don’t – and that is what they are. They’ll eventually become a scorned minority of little importance but they won’t come around..they’d sooner die.
