Republican Congress Will Do All It Can To Destroy Iran Deal

If a deal can be made with Iran, Congress will try to stop it, regardless of what the deal says.

The top Republican in the U.S. Senate on Sunday cast doubt on whether President Barack Obama will be able to win approval in Congress for any nuclear deal now under negotiation with Iran.

“I think it’s going to be a very hard sell, if it’s completed, in Congress,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said during an interview on the “Fox News Sunday” broadcast. “We already know it’s going to leave Iran as a threshold nuclear state.”

So, what’s their better idea?

God forbid they should actually create some legislation. Isn’t that what legislators are sposed to do?

    • talibandan2010 July 12th, 2015 at 12:23

Time to remove treasonous GOPers who care more about Israel than their own country.

      • TiredOldGuy July 12th, 2015 at 13:08

They don’t really give a fat rat’s ass about Israel. They like the Jewish donors money (Adelson) and war and war and money and war. Plus they hate anything that the President supports even if it was originally their own idea i.e. ACA.

  3. The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 13:01

McConnell says Congress will do all it can to stop the deal. This is Good as Congress never completes anything. By the way, do they even care about our four other Allies who are in in this deal ? Way to go on Pissing off our friends you idiots.

Cause Bibi wants it that way

I have a better idea: If you create nuclear weapons, we’ll turn ALL of your processing facilities into smoking craters. If you attack another country with nuclear weapons, we’ll turn your WHOLE COUNTRY into a smoking crater.
Now, as long as you don’t produce nuclear weapon, or deploy secondhand nuclear weapons against other nations, we’ll leave you in peace. Well… We’ll still call you out on human rights abuses and general stupidity, but other than that, we’ll leave you in peace.
    Have a nice day.

    • fahvel July 13th, 2015 at 02:18

you just effectively described the usa – the only country to have used nuclear weapons ever – the biggest arms dealer on earth and the creator of scum like your right wing loons. How the hell can you ever have a really nice day?

      • illinoisboy1977 July 14th, 2015 at 09:53

We were at war with a nation that had invaded several other nations and murdered civilians for sport. Oh, yeah, they also launched an unprovoked attack against US. They were out of control and drunk with power. Ever heard of the rape of Nanking? They raped and murdered thousands of Chinese women and girls, some as young as 7, because their emperor declared it to be their “divine right”. They threw babies into the air and caught them, by skewering them on their bayonets. Men and boys were lined up and shot, for absolutely no reason. I have no problem with having used the bomb on Japan. Their clear goal was to expand their empire to the rest of the globe and they HAD to be stopped.
So, I really CAN have a nice day, knowing that my military personnel are committed to preserving the peace and keeping my way of life secure, so my children and my grandchildren can live in a free nation.

    • bpollen July 13th, 2015 at 04:57

Do as we say, not as we do, or we bomb you into the Stone Age.

Really nuanced foreign policy right there…

      • illinoisboy1977 July 14th, 2015 at 09:44

It works for me. Iran’s rhetoric against Israel, along with it’s willingness to abuse its own people, are enough to justify that position. Any nation that proclaims its desire to “wipe another nation from the face of the earth”, is not principled enough to possess nuclear weapons. I think we should have invaded North Korea, the moment they set off their first test nuke.

        • bpollen July 14th, 2015 at 16:09

So, we can bomb Israel for its rhetoric against Iran, and along with its willingness to abuse its own people, that’s sufficient reason to bomb the country into a steaming crater. Ayup, really nuanced.

Who the hell are WE to determine what other sovereign nations can do, have, say, think, etc? Why are WE the only country with the right to self-determination? Use of nuclear weapons? We are the only country that’s done that. Abuse it’s own people? Ladies & Gentlemen, heeeeere’s Slavery! Genocide? We tried that under that “enlightened” American Andrew Jackson.

Bully hypocrisy is cool with you? Good think YOU don’t work for State.

          • illinoisboy1977 July 14th, 2015 at 16:21

Did I say rhetoric is reason enough to bomb someone? No. Maybe you should read the context. I said their rhetoric is enough for us to deny them the right to build a nuclear arsenal, by any means necessary. Now: let’s go point by point.
The things that happened under Andrew Jackson are long in the past. Since then, we put a stop to the European genocide, against the Jews. We’re no longer the nation who wipes out the “savage red man”. Japan was expanding , unchecked, murdering civilians for sport, raping women and little girls because their nutso emperor told them it was their devine right, and using their bayonets on infants. Dropping those A-bombs put an end to Japanese aggression and saved more lives than they ended. Iran’s crimes against humanity and decency are in the here and now. They publicly and proudly express a desire to wipe an entire nation and all it’s people from existence. They murder people, just for being gay or Christian. Since we don’t wipe entire nations off the face of the planet, we get to claim the right to rein in nations that do, or that express an intention to. I have no problem with claiming the moral high ground, against a nation as morally bankrupt as Iran.

            • bpollen July 15th, 2015 at 03:20

Do as I say, not as I do. I seem to remember people in OUR OWN GOVERNMENT threatening to nuke Iran. And the Soviet Union. And China. And Cuba. We also have staged coups, assassinations, tried to destroy other countries’ economy (for the crime of self-determination,) fomented revolution, let black men with syphilis suffer without treatment or even notice of the diagnosis, propped up murderous dictators (like the Shah of Iran!, and our buddy Saddam) slaughtering their own people. Claim all the high ground you want, but you are still in the swamp of our past deeds.

              • illinoisboy1977 July 15th, 2015 at 09:40

Right. The Shah was such a bastard, compared to the religious nutjobs running that country, today. They would NEVER dream of torturing or executing people, simply for speaking critically of them. As for Saddam, I proclaimed at the time we invaded Iraq, what a mistake it was to destabilize the region. He was a jerk, but he was OUR jerk and he kept the wackos in line. Even if he DID have weapons of mass destruction, it didn’t justify our invasion. Iraq wasn’t the nation that trained and harbored those who attacked us. That was Afghanistan. They were the only nation on my $h!tlist at the time.
Even with all our past crimes, we’ve still got a leg up on Iran.

                • bpollen July 15th, 2015 at 15:20

Thanks. You just came out in favor of propping up vicious dictators. Shows I can blow off anything else you say because you just said that if they are our PET DICTATOR, slaughtering his own people is fine, but if they actually don’t choose to be our marionettes, then it’s BAAAAAD!

As I keep saying, you philosophy here boils down to: OK for me, but not for thee. And your imaginary upper leg is a chimera… totally illusory. You got a chip about Persians, be honest. Cuz your “logic” has utterly failed you. “Our jerk…” What a maroon.

  6. Suzanne McFly July 12th, 2015 at 17:58

Well duh, isn’t this expected by now. I mean for six years, all they have been trying to do is create reasons for impeachment and ruin the ACA. Why would you quit being a complete failure after it has benefited them for the past six years? This type of governing has really made their inbred constituents ecstatic.

For most Republicans ,, Foreign affairs is anything that happens outside their state

  8. OldLefty July 13th, 2015 at 06:16

    Of course it will.
Obama getting a historic deal is a terrible thing for Republicans.
Iran getting a nuclear bomb would be a great thing for Republicans.

    • FASCandAL July 14th, 2015 at 07:36

OK. When they get the nuclear bomb, it’s on Obama’s shoulders now. That will be his lasting legacy.

      • OldLefty July 14th, 2015 at 13:34

What do you think there is about this this deal that would enable that would enable them to get the nuclear bomb?

  9. FASCandAL July 14th, 2015 at 07:35

You mean the way Obama and the liberals will do all they can to destroy America?

  10. illinoisboy1977 July 16th, 2015 at 14:15

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I choose to see the world as it is, not as I’d like it to be. We live in a world where manipulation of foreign powers and violence are often necessary, to keep our interests and way of life secure. I won’t apologize for that and I don’t feel I have to defend my position.

    • bpollen July 16th, 2015 at 15:39

Jingoism is not seeing the world as it is.

And gee, am I being cruel asking you to support the crap you spew? Poor widdle ‘boy1977…

      • illinoisboy1977 July 16th, 2015 at 15:47

As I said, I see the world differently from you. We’ll just have to agree to disagree, here.

        • bpollen July 16th, 2015 at 15:53

As *I* said, jingoism is not an accurate view of the world.

          • illinoisboy1977 July 16th, 2015 at 16:12

            In your opinion.
