Supreme Court Blocks Texas’s Restrictive Abortion Rules

The Supreme Court is stopping Texas from abortion restrictions that would result in the closing of 10 clinics.

The justices voted 5-4 on Monday granting an emergency appeal from the clinics after a federal appeals court upheld new regulations and refused to keep them on hold while the clinics appealed to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court order will remain in effect at least until the court decides whether to hear the clinics’ appeal of the lower court ruling, not before the fall.

Restrictions have already caused numerous clinics to close.

The case concerns two parts of a state law that imposes strict requirements on abortion providers. One requires all abortion clinics in the state to meet the standards for “ambulatory surgical centers,” including regulations concerning buildings, equipment and staffing. The other requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

Other parts of the law took effect in 2013, causing about half of the state’s 41 abortion clinics to close. If the contested provisions take effect, abortion rights advocates said, the number of clinics will again be halved.

“This would amount to a more than 75 percent reduction in Texas abortion facilities in just a two-year period, creating a severe shortage of safe and legal abortion services in a state that is home to more than five million reproductive–age women,” lawyers for abortion providers told the justices in an emergency application for a stay.

Texas; not sure what they dislike more. People using their freedom to no have babies or those people having babies and then wanting food stamps, Medicaid, housing assistance, etc…

You gotta give the anti-abortion activist credit for effectively chipping-away at a constitutional right, rather than repealing it.

We could do a similar strategy with gun control. Regulate gun stores to the point where there might be only two or three in a state. After forcing gun owners to drive for hours to the store, force them to watch a video on the dangers of guns and then wait 72 hours before they can get their gun or ammo.

Get ready for the same with SS marriage.

      I can imagine a few of the following;

      1. 20 week wait
      2. Only 2 places in the state give the license and you have to go in person (both of you)
      3. Special pre-wedding “Gay Counseling”
      4. Possible sonogram or anal probe (gotta check for coodies)
      5. Forced to watch straight porn video (you could be straight and not know it)

and all kinds of other assorted insanity

I give the SS crowd kudos for making their relationship legitimate in the eyes of the law but when they divorce and start losing their homes and bank rolls I see murders a common theme.

I was a helicopter rescue crewmen and we picked up a couple… two Navy guys (1988) lover spat over fooling around, it ended up in murder suicide by gun, what a mess, since they were both Navy it was turned over to NCIS and we had to pick em up and stick in body bags bring em back to Whidbey Is.

Force the gun shop owner to get admitting privileges at a local hospital before he can sell any guns. You know someone’s going to end up there sometime. Or, force the gun buyer to undergo an invasive ultrasound, from behind.

Now, I hope that the SCOTUS votes to keep those clinic open indefinitely and even makes them expand the numbers of clinics, there and everywhere. Abortion is a medical procedure and must be left to women and their physicians, not the legislators.
I love the NARAL slogan, “Trust Women, as Legislators Make Crappy Doctors.”

Perhaps the legislators of Texass could be charged with practicing medicine without a license.
