Tapper To Trump: ‘What’s Traditional About Being Married 3 Times?’

Posted by | June 28, 2015 13:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Jake Tapper confronted Donald Trump about his stance on “traditional marriage.”

Although the candidate has said his views are “evolving,” his campaign position is that only “traditional marriage” between “a man and a woman” should be legal.

CNN’s Tapper asked Trump if he could justify his view on marriage in an interview that aired on Sunday.

“What do you say to a lesbian who’s married or a gay man who’s married who says, ‘Donald Trump, what’s traditional about being married three times?’” Tapper wondered.

“Well, they have a very good point,” Trump admitted. “But I’ve been a very hardworking person. And actually, I have a great marriage, I have a great wife now. My [first] two wives were very good.”

“But what do you say to a lesbian or a gay man?” Tapper pressed.

“I really don’t say anything,” Trump shrugged. “I’m just, Jake, I’m for traditional marriage.”

Trump and the “family values” conservatives are all about the sanctity of divorce.

    • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 13:55

I guess traditional marriage is between one man and one woman at a time.

    • StoneyCurtisll June 28th, 2015 at 16:08

      But you see…
      His divorces are ok..
Cause he works so hard, and his ex-wives are wonderful;…:)

  2. William June 28th, 2015 at 14:17

    Meanwhile over at Irony Avenue.

    • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 15:23

Unfortunately the building is not connected to Trump. It’s near a couple of his buildings, but it’s called Avery Place. The fireman mistakenly referred to it as Trump Tower.

      • StoneyCurtisll June 28th, 2015 at 16:06

        But But but…
        I thought Trump owned everything..
He seems to present himself as such….
He might just be BSing us by declaring he will build a wall across the border and making Mexico pay for it..(and personally holding exclusive rights on it’s use)..
The guy has delusions that few can imagine.

      • William June 28th, 2015 at 17:08

        Thanks for that.

    • StoneyCurtisll June 28th, 2015 at 16:02

Would have been a good time to declare a strike.
Sorry Mr. Trump, call you local private fire department to put the blaze out..,.

  3. labman57 June 28th, 2015 at 15:47

    Stick to your guns, Donald.

Everyone knows that marriage should be between a man and his wife … and his mistress … and an occasional hooker or two … possibly ending in divorce — you know, the traditional way as God intended it to be.

    • The Original Just Me June 29th, 2015 at 23:44

A man is not considered successful unless he has a wife, a mistress, and a little something going on the side.

  4. robert June 28th, 2015 at 17:48

trump doesn’t sound bitter about his divorce so i don’t see what the big deal is. If donald didn’t take a traditional marriage over same sex we wouldn’t see him as a republican.

until donald starts making wise cracks about the supreme court ruling i would leave this alone

    • bpollen June 28th, 2015 at 21:14

Feel free. Nobody requires you to have an opinion. Yet, in spite of claiming that you would let it alone, you had to express your opinion on it… which, surprisingly enough, doesn’t leave it alone.

      • robert June 28th, 2015 at 21:19

let us not forget this ruling is still young. Give it a decade and lets see how many gay divorces there are

Then this will be a mute point

        • bpollen June 28th, 2015 at 21:37

A mute point would be a point that doesn’t talk, Most points do NOT talk. And it isn’t a “moot” point either, because the subject at hand is TRUMP, his support for traditional marriage, so called, and his opposition to the Supreme Court ruling. How does the passage of a decade affect HIS CURRENT POSITION? Will he be less of an asshole NOW after a decade passes?

          • robert June 28th, 2015 at 21:45

that’s what i said, Trump has to decide what he believes in most. I would rather have a straight shooter then a flip flopper like hillary who once said the same as trump then jumps the fence ??? Those kind scare me the most because you know they are looking for the popular vote and really have no real opinion.

as far as trump being an Ahole. My guess would be his ex wives have more cash in the bank then he does so that might make him a religious chump

            • bpollen June 28th, 2015 at 21:59

              “that’s what i said”

              Nuh-uh.

You said that you would leave the subject alone (though you didn’t) and that the watershed on that position would be his “cracking wise” about the Supreme Court decision. Trump said, and I quote “Once again the Bush appointed Supreme Court Justice John Roberts has let us down. Jeb pushed him hard! Remember!”

And, in any event, you somehow segued into the future of gay divorce, as if that somehow made the statements any less asinine. What does the FUTURE state of gay divorce have to do with TRUMP’S statements? Will society crumble because of gay marriage? Will we all learn (from gay divorce) that Hispanics actually ARE rapists and thieves?

He made the statement NOW, not a decade from now, and that was the subject under discussion. You should leave the prognostication about gay divorce to Jean Dixon (and she’s dead!)

              • robert June 28th, 2015 at 22:15

trump has an opinion just like anyone. and dont forget trump has no regrets so far about what he said about the gop. Quite frankly i think the entire debate about marriage either way is a load of crap. Who cares what you get married to or the political opinions going forward. Its now a new law and trump hasn’t said anything about changing it.

BTW i noticed you decided to skip over on how she is slowly becoming the female Mitt romney. next thing you know she will be giving us 41 %s on who is going to be taken care of in this nation

                • whatthe46 June 28th, 2015 at 22:36

“Who cares ‘what’ you get married to or the political opinions going forward.” “what” you get married to. what do you mean by “what?” and of course the dead animal hair wearer has no regrets about the b.s. he spews only because he knows he’ll never be president. only his words will come back to bite him in his sorry ass as it already has with univision tv. he and anyone else, have an absolute right to spew whatever ignorance they so choose to, but there are consequences for those words.

                  • robert June 29th, 2015 at 21:33

i have to give a hand to trump by dismissing himself from his tv show
Everyone was betting he would dodge the debates for another season. Now lets see if august is going to be a month to remember when i know donald is going to roast the gop like you have never seen before !

                    • whatthe46 June 29th, 2015 at 21:42

                      NBC let him go.

                    • robert June 29th, 2015 at 21:46

i read trump and NBC got into an argument about what trump said and he would not take it back or apologize.

yes trump was fired after he blew off another season by his decision

                    • whatthe46 June 29th, 2015 at 21:52

quite frankly, even if they had kept him on, they would have lost sponsors. he’s a piece of filth.

                    • robert June 29th, 2015 at 22:21

since the ratings were the highest in the last 15 years trump has the last laugh. NBC dumped brian williams yet fox keeps o’reilly ?

tv is a F****d up business and im sure donald is aware of that

                    • whatthe46 June 29th, 2015 at 22:27

Trump is not laughing, he is bellowing his outrage and genuinely surprised and appalled that univision and NBC have dropped him and NBC will not air his show…instead he was fired. The irony is delicious.

                    • The Original Just Me June 29th, 2015 at 23:41

My God, if he was fired, that means he is unemployed. Let’s hope he doesn’t get hired as President.

                    • robert July 1st, 2015 at 18:49

the firing might bite themselves in the ass It sounds like trump has a good lawsuit going and univision better hope 500 million doesn’t vanish when all is said and done

                    • tracey marie July 1st, 2015 at 20:15

lol, nonsense, he has a morality clause. His racist words, behavior and actions afterwards show what he is. He was bitchslapped by consequences for his words.

                    • The Original Just Me June 29th, 2015 at 23:39

Uh, they say the GOP will only let the top ten candidates into the debates. Of coarse they may still be debating this.

                    • robert July 1st, 2015 at 18:44

with trump in second place in the polls ( last time i checked ) i dont see trump not getting in the debates at this time

                    • The Original Just Me July 2nd, 2015 at 06:48

I thought that second place was only in one poll and it was in one state, which is a strong Blue state. But, I could be wrong.

                    • robert July 2nd, 2015 at 17:51

i keep reading trump is in 2nd according to nationwide polls

                • bpollen June 28th, 2015 at 22:42

                  Trump is a “she?”

What, or who, the hell are you talking about here? We never discussed ANY females, so YES, i didn’t cover topics that WE WERE NOT DISCUSSING… We are also not discussing global warming, the latest fashions, privatization of schools, Nazism, communism, fascism, onomatopoeia, Duck Dodgers In The 21st Century, bowl-cut hair styles, whether or not a hoppy beer is good, and Ecclesiastes, so make sure that you complain how I skipped over them too. When I am talking about a subject, your diversion tactic of making it about something or someone ELSE gets ignored. “Look over here – there’s some big distracting thing!” doesn’t stop that distraction from being “off topic.”

You haven’t supported your position, but you have shown that you are a subscriber to Conservative Evasion Tactics When Losing An Argument Monthly.

                  • robert June 29th, 2015 at 20:45

ROFL i see your dodging my comment above on hillary clinton and her 1st observation 2 yrs ago about a man & woman marriage

There is that clear enough for you ?

                    • bpollen June 30th, 2015 at 04:31

Hahahaha… wait, why are we laughing? I’m not avoiding your attempt to change a discussion about Trump to a discussion about Hilary Clinton, I am IGNORING your attempt to change the subject.

Should you want me to discuss Hilary Clinton’s statements, you need to provide me with a legitimate, logical, and credible reason to believe that ANY opinion by Hilary on ANY subject materially changes the meaning of your statements or Trump’s statements.

“Little Bobby, what’d you mean you aren’t going to school?”
                      “Look, Billy’s doing something bad!”
“Don’t change the subject, young man! What did you mean?”
“It depends on what Hilary says, Ma!”

                  • The Original Just Me June 29th, 2015 at 23:35

In your list of things we haven’t discussed yet, you left out Yo Yo Snot Buggers. Now that really needs to be talked about.

                    • bpollen June 30th, 2015 at 04:23

Sorry, I’m a paid shill for Yo Yo Snot Yo Buggers… I’m contractually obligated to only talk about Yo Yo Snot Yo Buggers. Try ’em on crackers!

“Will he be less of an asshole…?” nope, but, he’ll probably be on wife number 5.

            • bpollen June 28th, 2015 at 22:46

              After a decade, he’ll be a “finely aged” asshole…

              • whatthe46 June 28th, 2015 at 22:52

yep. but, i bet he’ll still sport the dead squirrel on top that skull.

                • bpollen June 28th, 2015 at 23:15

Reminds me of a time my wife and I, early in our marriage, went out with my sisters. I played designated driver while the ladies hit the bars. My oldest sister (the most incorrigible of the three) walked up to this HUGE ugly guy with a coon-skin cap and asked “Did you buy that or did it just crawl up on your head and die?” He was less than amused. We thought “You know, there’s another bar right next door…”

                  • whatthe46 June 28th, 2015 at 23:21

Just like all the single parents out there, and all the divorced Heterosexuals there are in the country huh? Oh and lets not forget the Pedophile priests and the bigoted republicans who want to stop any one but white, rich, old people from voting. Yeah lets just wait and see how bad off our country becomes in a decade. Stupid logic to anyone with a brain which you do not have.

I wonder why this guy even bothered running. I mean, I’m libertarian, and actually tend to favor the GOP over the Democrats (although I’ve voted Democrat back in 2008), but what I value more than anything is consistency. I’ll have more respect for you, and be more likely to vote for you, if what you say in one town to cheering is the same thing you say in another town to booing.

It’s the reason I voted for Obama in 2008. I didn’t agree with everything he said, but at least he was consistent in his message, and I knew what to expect from him.

  7. bpollen June 28th, 2015 at 21:12

Maybe he’s learning that sound bites and rabid social and political positions don’t help much when they ask QUESTIONS!!!

  8. The Original Just Me June 29th, 2015 at 23:12

The candidate’s has said his views are still evolving. Well, he can talk so he has evolved to two years old so far but those Terrible Two’s can make a lot of people dislike you.
