Santorum: Justice Kennedy ‘Potentially Disrupting The Foundation Of The World’

Posted by | June 28, 2015 08:30 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

And the hyperbolic comments about gay marriage continue.

…Santorum says the Supreme Court decision on Friday ruling bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional is “potentially disrupting the foundation of the world.”

Santorum, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, said he wasn’t surprised at the ruling, citing the previous ruling from the court striking down the Defense of Marriage of Act. He called Friday a “very sad day.”

“Justice Kennedy said — this is remarkable but listen to it — the only reason that any could oppose gay marriage is because they hated gays and lesbians. Which is almost stops you in your tracks,” Santorum said.

“That five thousand years of human history, a biblically-given thing that God somehow gave us marriage as a man and woman, that that was, that somehow that was intrinsically about hating other people. Which is very, very sad to see how the culture’s changed and how this one man, this is it, this one man, this one man, a 5-4 decision is going to try to affect the basic foundation of America, and frankly, now, with America leading the way, potentially disrupting the foundation of the world.”

He lost me at “biblically-given.” Hey Rick, there’s more to the world than your precious bible. Lots (Lots!) of people live very happy and fulfilling lives, actually producing things, without the bible dictating everything they do. BTW, what have you done lately? And also BTW, marriage was invented by people.

    • Chris June 28th, 2015 at 10:18

Just once I’d love it if there was a press conference with Santorum, Gingrich and Limbaugh in attendance by the mics.

And that a presser had the courage to ask Santorum, “If marriage is sacred, should divorce be legal?”

It will never happen. But wouldn’t the backpedaling and word salad be great?

      • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 10:21

They would all pretend they didn’t understand the point of the question. It’s called self-delusion.

  2. OldLefty June 28th, 2015 at 09:07

What a bunch of drama queens.

  3. Warman1138 June 28th, 2015 at 09:07

Only five thousand years of human history? That’s such a profound thought that I’ll have to think about it on the magical white chair of deep thinking………and abort it.

    • ExPFCWintergreen June 28th, 2015 at 09:18

Notice how Li’l Ricky threw in a dog whistle to Young Earth Creationism there? What a maroon.

      • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 09:44

        What an ultra-maroon.

    • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 09:31

Well, the world was only created 6,000 years ago, right?

Um … Ricky, according to your holy book, marriage involves a lot of polygamy, concubines, raping of slaves, & degradation of women. And let us not forget how Adam & Eve and their two SONS populated the world.
Is that the “foundation of the world” of which you speak?

  6. KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker June 28th, 2015 at 09:25

Conservative politicians must think no one can hear them except for their deluded base.
For Pete’s sake, many developed countries around the world have enjoyed marriage equality for decades.

    • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 09:47

But it doesn’t really count until it happens here. Because Murrca.

      • William June 28th, 2015 at 09:51

        Hey you’re right.

        • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 10:10

I guess it’s covered by the “one man and one woman.”

            there is that free space.

    • crc3 June 28th, 2015 at 10:36

“I’m going to kill myself” sounds good to me. Since the conservatives have arsenals of guns and ammo it won’t be a hard task at all. Happy shooting!!

      • William June 28th, 2015 at 10:41

I think they are going to go with the “setting themselves on fire” thing.

  8. allison1050 June 28th, 2015 at 09:52

Disrupting the world?? Really?? He now wants us to believe that this country leads the friggn’ world on this matter? Then he better start with 1 of our nearest and dearest neighbors, Canada since, anyone please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong now but, the country has had a similar law in effect for the past 10 years.

    • William June 28th, 2015 at 10:02

Yes they have, as well as Universal healthcare…That must be why Canada has disintegrated into chaos and third world status eh?

  9. fredoandme June 28th, 2015 at 10:07

all right, then. rick’s on the side of the gay haters.
    that’s settled now.
next up for discussion: will gay marriage rip the very fabric of the universe or will that require a santorum presidency?

    • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 10:12

That second part will cause the first part.

    • wpadon June 28th, 2015 at 10:48

      Santorum Presidency:Christian Sharia law

    • granpa.usthai June 28th, 2015 at 21:22

hey! I think you just showed me why God spent more time condemning the wearing of MIXED FIBERS than Jesus did condemning gay lifestyles.

this whole thing of LIFE is about one like fiber (universe)

no wonder the wearing of mixed fibers is an ABOMINATION to God

and it makes sense that they will be ordered to ‘depart from me’.

  10. Chris June 28th, 2015 at 10:10

    Memo to Santorum:

You should know better. You campaigned in Iowa before. You know that Iowa has sanctioned gay marriage for SIX years. And no foundation breaks have happened, have they?

    Hypocritical dummy.

    • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 10:11

Of course he didn’t know that. Why are you confusing him with pertinent facts?

  11. William June 28th, 2015 at 10:51

The façade these people keep putting up is just plain getting old.
God is NOT on your side.

  12. wpadon June 28th, 2015 at 11:00

It was a 5-4 decision, where is this one man with five votes?

  13. labman57 June 28th, 2015 at 11:44

Hey Ricky, why not just declare that the sky is falling?

  14. fahvel June 28th, 2015 at 12:24

this thing is a rectal pucker with little dark granules stuck all around the orifice – does anything take it seriously?

  15. eyelashviper June 28th, 2015 at 13:15

Gee, what will happen if “the foundation of the world” is disrupted…??? will the planet fall through space, hurtle into the sun, or bring on the Rapture?
These rwnj’s sure do conjure up some great ideas for science fiction big bad summer movie spectaculars..
Will Santorum ride the rocket, to save the planet, sacrificing himself for mankind, or will he be the guy in robes, condemning the heretics to hellfire and such…..

    • granpa.usthai June 28th, 2015 at 21:13

“Chicken Little” is the GOP 2016 Election Manual.

  17. alpacadaddy June 28th, 2015 at 13:58

With “America leading the way” ? …where? ‘Rabid Rightwing Ricky’ sure has a high opinion of himself, and our role in the world. There was a time when we were viewed as a beacon of freedom and human rights, both secular and multi-denominational, offering coexistence and tolerance to believers and non-believers alike as long as you abided by our laws which were not based on scripture. Now we are the modern-day Roman Empire, extending our military influence around the globe at the behest of politicians bought and sold by corporate overlords who have purchased ‘We The People’s democracy and turned it into a textbook example of extreme capitalism. Now Rick froths at the mouth (eww!) in an attempt to impose his warped brand of Christian theocracy on an unwilling nation. Now if you’ll excuse me, I must go wash my mind out with soap!

  18. burqa June 28th, 2015 at 14:33

please oh please oh please oh please oh pleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease:

Reporter: “Mr. Santorum, you said Justice Kennedy is “potentially disrupting the foundation of the world.”” Do you think it is likely he is the antichrist?”

  19. TuMadre, Ph.D June 28th, 2015 at 20:15

A religious man taking a state action associated with a religious word, and trying to make the state action itself religious. You can see examples of this all over the internet. I’m not sure what’s so surprising. Interracial marriage pushed the envelope of state action around half a century ago, and I’m certain that if these individuals were alive back then, they would be saying that the Supreme Court was “pro-beastality.”

If a law originates from religion, then, in order for the law to be adopted into a non-religious state law, the law should be able to stand on its own without religion supporting it.

    • SoSezYou June 29th, 2015 at 11:57

If a law originates from religion it should be thrown out as per the First Amendment.

      • TuMadre, Ph.D June 29th, 2015 at 17:18

Not necessarily. For example, one could argue, “Thou shalt not kill,” is a law based on religious text. However, that law stands on its own, and makes sense without “religion” being the only reasoning it has to exist.

Forbidding incest (which happens in Leviticus) can also stand on its own, for good reason, as it can cause a plethora of bad stuff to happen to any children born from it.

Just because it is born from religious texts does not mean its bad. But it is either good or bad on its own, without “My religion!” being used as reasoning.

  20. granpa.usthai June 28th, 2015 at 21:06

just got through inspecting the foundation of the world. It’s as solid as a rock, but if EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL is so damn disruptive for you, take a damn shovel and start digging to find out for yourself. After about 6,500 feet of pure RepubliCON Horsesh*t, you should be hitting bedrock.
