Pro-Confederate Flag Rallies Across The South

Posted by | June 28, 2015 11:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Southern racists are standing up for a flag that has seen its day.

Just as quickly as the authorities were able to undo Bree Newsome’s noble handiwork from earlier in the day, the 150-years-late separatists showed up to have their voices heard. Which is, admittedly, just like every other day of the week—except this time, they brought flags.

A few decidedly more lucid humans attempted to explain to the delusional men in Confederate uniforms that the war had ended, only to have this happen.

Still not over it are they?

  2. Mainah June 28th, 2015 at 11:10

I find that ludicrous that a white guy, whose descendants are from europe, tells a black guy to go back where he came from? You know the First Nation’s people are just laughing.

My father never could understand the term “Native American.” He considered himself to be one. I never could explain to him why the term makes more sense than “Indian.”

      • The Original Just Me June 28th, 2015 at 12:52

If you follow the English language back a long ways, the word Indian was a replacement term for Savage. In most of the very early U.S. history books, the natives in America were called Savages. This term lasted until the late 1800’s. A precursor to Savages was Viking. Now, that is another interesting story.

      • Mainah June 28th, 2015 at 14:50

Yeah. But most people don’t know that Columbus thought he found the Indies.

        • whatthe46 June 28th, 2015 at 14:59

he was suppose to make a left turn at albuquerque.

        • Larry Schmitt June 28th, 2015 at 15:18

I like to say the only reason they’re called Indians is because Columbus got lost.

        • SoSezYou June 29th, 2015 at 00:10

How about you tell him he is Indigenous? It does have a noble ring to it..

    • whatthe46 June 28th, 2015 at 22:58

by the way, that’s such a beautiful picture.

  3. The Original Just Me June 28th, 2015 at 11:28

I do feel that any individual that wants to, can fly or display any of the various Confederate flags if they want to. They can even display it for any reason they want to. This is their Right and Freedom under the Freedom of Speech Right that we all enjoy, such as these posts. The problem arises when a government entity or other organization displays it for any reason other than a historical reminder of our nations growing pains that were experienced while finding it’s self. These groups should only display them in museums or other such places that are operated for historic purposes only and not as statements of todays diversities.

    • rg9rts June 28th, 2015 at 11:58

I agree anywhere they want but public property

      • The Original Just Me June 28th, 2015 at 12:59

A public park or public sidewalk is open to all of the people as all of the people own them. But, a specific use grounds, such as a Court House Yard, is for a specific use and therefore should not be used to express individual opinions, even thought it is publically owned. To do so, would point toward favoritism by the officials who work in the Court House and therefore manage the activities on those grounds. .

        • tracey marie June 28th, 2015 at 21:26

No public lands are not the place to display racism.

          • mema June 28th, 2015 at 21:40

Are you kidding me…RACISM HAS NO PLACE ANYWHERE . PERIOD.

            • whatthe46 June 28th, 2015 at 21:46

that’s what she said. not only should it be a place in govt buildings or govt. property, it shouldn’t be allowed on any public grounds. they can display it if they want on their own private property. you did’t get that? and one would not anyone to display it anywhere.

            • tracey marie June 28th, 2015 at 21:49

              except at your home.

              • mema June 28th, 2015 at 22:12

You obviously know nothing about North Side Pittsburgh!!

          • The Original Just Me June 29th, 2015 at 00:17

There is no place to display racism. But, to express one’s opinion on any subject is a different matter.

  4. Chris June 28th, 2015 at 12:50

Republican Party, the whole world is watching.

    The whole world is watching.

    • mema June 28th, 2015 at 13:43

The civil rights act of 1964 was voted on in the house and 96 Democrats and 34 Republicans voted not to pass it. In the Senate 21 Democrats voted no and 6 Republicans…Do the names George Wallace -D…Richard Russel -D…Howard Smith -D..
Strom Thurman -D… Robert Byrd -D… not mean anything. Abraham Lincoln was a member of the National Union Party, the name used by the Republican party in 1864…do ypu see a pattern here.. The whole country is responsible for racism.. Bigotry knows no party. Your hatred of the right is just another problem in this country and as long as there are people who think the way you do things are not going to change…

      • Chris June 28th, 2015 at 14:32

Here’s my takedown of your first point:

Get educated once and for all about the two parties, will you? And I’ll make it simple for you. (Yes, I am tired of explaining this.)

The Dem racists of 1964 are the Republican racists of today. This happened when LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act. There is plenty of history for you to research. The Solid South went from being solid Democratic to solid Republican in less than a decade. Lincoln would feel at home in the DEMOCRATIC party now; you do not see Dems defending the Confederate battle flag, do you?

This is even more simple for you: I am a liberal. I am not defending the Democratic party of 1964. I am ATTACKING the Republicans of today for their rank bigotry; yes, bigotry DOES know a party.

Point two: Yes, I have a hatred for hatred. What’s wrong with that? I am not tolerant of intolerance. What is wrong with that? Think, man, think.

“(T)hings are not going to change…”? Yes, things WILL change when liberals stand up for what is right. And they ARE changing. Obamacare, intolerance for the racist Confederate flag, allowing gay marriage; this is happening NOW.

        • whatthe46 June 28th, 2015 at 14:40

chris, i’m afraid it won’t care.

          • Chris June 28th, 2015 at 15:09

mema reminds me of Maher’s “zombie lies”: lies that simply won’t die even after being thoroughly disproven.

Dim bulbs latch onto simplistic, wrong explanations of history and they won’t let go even if you spoonfeed the more complicated truth to them.

David Barton is responsible for a lot of this willful ignorance. But he’s not the only one. Ultimate responsibility lies with the bigot who holds the opinion and goes to the ballot box with it.

      • jasperjava June 28th, 2015 at 17:09

        Your post prove Chris’ point.
The racist Democrats have all left the party. How many white supremacists do you suppose voted for Barack Hussein Obama? The Democratic Party today is inclusive and multi-racial. The Republican Party is full of racist bigots (did you hear what Donald Trump said about Mexicans last week?) and almost exclusively 100% white.

On civil rights issues, the Democrats are leaders. The Republicans are still stuck at where they were 50 years ago. That’s why you still bring up the conservative Dixiecrats, You actually share their beliefs, but you’re ashamed of it, so you try to project your own bigotry onto other people.

Stop living in the past. The Democrats of 1964 are not the same as the Democrats of today. The Republicans of 1964 are not the same as the Republicans of today. Today’s Republican Party is whiter, more conservative, more hostile to minorities than it was then.

Come back when you are ready to face the realities of today, not those from 51 years ago.

And maybe you can explain how a black man managed to win the nomination in what you state is Strom Thurmond’s Democratic Party? Not even enough intellect to be an effective troll…I don’t see why the mods haven’t sprayed you with RAID yet.

Back to the earlier discussion, Bell and Weinberg was completed before political correctness and prior to the political left gaining ownership of higher ‘education’. Political constraints severely limit any contemporary research unless the outcome is politically acceptable.

Kenneth Zucker and Susan Bradley, describe [Bell and Weinberg] Sexual Preference a “classic study”, write that its data were consistent with those of previous clinical research, including Irving Bieber’s Homosexuality: A Psychoanalytic Study of Male Homosexuals.

Social Researcher Edward Stein writes in his The Mismeasure of Desire (1999), that while Bell and Weinberg.’s study has been criticized on various grounds, its conclusions with respect to experiential theories have been confirmed and accepted, and that many other retrospective studies have been conducted on gender non-conformity because of Bell and Weinberg’s findings on the subject.

I give ya points for aiming high – it’s virtually impossible to convince non-racists that they should be OK with public displays of racism. So please, feel free to show your racism to all and sundry, but you might as well get used to public approbation now…

You DO realize that they LEFT the Democratic Party right? You’re insane. All but two of the dozens of African-Americans in Congress are Democrats, including legendary civil rights heroes like John Lewis.

The vast majority of African-Americans support the Democratic Party, and would never vote for Republicans who insult their community at every opportunity.

African-Americans are an important constituency for the Democrats. They are not merely “embraced” by the Party, they ARE the Party. They are members, delegates, officials all over the country.

The Republicans will never get their vote, because they never give them any respect.

Are you serious? 95 percent of African-Americans vote Democratic. Literally millions of names. The fact that you could only list a couple of dozen Black Republicans speaks volumes, especially when several of those you mentioned are clearly mentally ill, and others have been distancing themselves from their embarrassing party.

            Give it up.

          • SoSezYou June 28th, 2015 at 23:50

Truly sad. Tell us again what percentage of the black vote Mitt Romney received again? And if you reply because blacks are racist by voting for a black man, you’ll prove what everyone here already suspects of you. Just another troll.

        “Bigotry knows no party”.
        Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.

      • tracey marie June 28th, 2015 at 21:20

are you capable of commenting on the present and stop making excuses for racism?

      • veggiedude June 28th, 2015 at 21:35

The extreme republicans of Lincoln’s time were liberals. Today the liberals are in the other party. That is the difference.

      • bpollen June 28th, 2015 at 22:55

Time marches on. The racist southern democrats are now card carrying racist southern republicans. And yes, complaining about the MAIN group supporting racist policies is SPOT ON! Racism is divided equally between Rs and Ds, between the Ku Klux Klowns and the Kiwanis Clubs, between Aryan Nations and the Little League? What a load of that stuff that’s not Shinola.

Read a history book or something. You might notice some OTHER things that have changed in the last half-a-century.

      • SoSezYou June 28th, 2015 at 23:47

Why do you simpletons KEEP on trying to white wash history? Yesterday’s southern democrats are today’s southern republicans…history books aren’t to be treated like you do the Bible and the Constitution. You can’t expect to cherry pick history and make the rest disappear.

      • Luft Gekuhlt June 29th, 2015 at 00:11

The Civil Rights Act was also going to, ‘level the playing field’; with the assurance that no one would be denied accommodation or gain special privileges due to a politically recognized minority distinction. How well as that worked? Are we in the color-blind society as promised by this legislation?

  5. tracey marie June 28th, 2015 at 21:37

We understand your impotent rage….this is a terrible week for you racists.
    ACA stands
    Housing discrimination is rejected
Racism and it’s symbols are rejected
    Equality win!

Private people can fly whatever they want on their own private property. To demand that the public institutions fly it is overreaching and tyrannical. City, State, and National flags on public property, with the exception of military bases, where POW/MIA flags, as well as base/detatchment number flags are also acceptable (although nothing more).

As for that picture that shows the Native American, they were conquered. All sorts of tribes throughout history have been conquered, and there is nothing left.

    • Obewon June 29th, 2015 at 01:00

You’re inaccurate about Native Americans and the Cherokee nation reservation. http://www.cherokee.org/

      • TuMadre, Ph.D June 29th, 2015 at 01:12

I did not mean to imply that the Native Americans are gone, with nothing left. There are far more than just the Cherokees left. The best man at my wedding was Sioux. That said, when conquered, historically speaking, they tend to lose the right to call themselves the “originals,” because they have tended to either become absorbed into the culture, or outright killed. This has changed recently (from the perspective of ALL of human history, a couple hundred years is a blink of the eyes, and thus, recent).

That said, the American settlers conquered America. And while I most certainly advocate for equal rights, regardless of gender, race, or anything else that can be used to divide humanity, I refuse to inherit the “sins of the father,” just like I do not expect anyone to inherit their father’s sins for how they treated the Irish, despite the fact that I descended from the Irish workers that built Boston and New York City.

The world is how it is. We can accept it, or demand “an eye for an eye,” and, as Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye, and the world would be blind.” You may not have the same start as I do, but you can and should have the same rights and basic schooling/work opportunities, regardless of class, race, culture-history, sex, sexual orientation, or anything else.

  7. Terry "Death to Equality" Xu June 29th, 2015 at 03:55

    Shrug

The confederate flag, however much racism it may represent, is still much more preferable than equality

The fact that it seems to hurt equalists tells me that it should be supported on that basis alone

    • arc99 June 29th, 2015 at 10:48

Your repugnant opinions are not facts.

Not surprised that you do not understand that key concept.

  8. booker25 June 29th, 2015 at 08:50

Just goes to show ya there really are a bunch of really stupid people out there.

  9. allison1050 June 29th, 2015 at 10:20

Don’t any of these sob’s have a gd job?

  10. Foundryman June 29th, 2015 at 11:17

Not just in the south…The same local rednecks that rigged their diesel trucks to spew black soot are now parading around with huge confederate flags on the back of them.

  11. DropItLikeItsHot June 29th, 2015 at 12:49

Those in attendance defending the flag…over 60, Caucasian and obese. Fits the GOP base to a T.
